Kimberly - is from Chile• The Andes Mountains is the longest mountain range in the world,

and extends about 5,500 miles. The Andes mountains extends over seven countries: Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. It has three different tectonic subdivisions: The Northern Andes, The Central Andes, and The Patagonian Andes. This mountain range also has a Volcanic Belt that is divides into four volcanic zones. Chile is in three of the four zones for the Andean mountains, they are: The Central Volcanic Zone(CVZ), The Southern Volcanic Zone (SVZ), and The Austral Volcanic Zone (AVZ).

• The Andes Mountains were formed from a volcanic uplift created by the collision of the Nazca plate with the South American plate.

• My mother was in an earthquake when she was in catholic school in October of 1968, Santiago Chile. She said they were all eating a meal when the floor started to tremble and so did the walls a few moments later. My mom said that at that moment in time everyone knew what was going to happen. Right away the nun on duty told all the girls to stop eating and to leave the building immediately. Most of the girls were upset and started to cry but not my mother. The earthquake lasted about thirty minutes or so. Luckily none of the girls in the school were injured. The school itself did get hit by the earthquake with cracks and holes in the walls and ceilings. My mom also says that she saw some of the roads around her were cracked and shifted upward like this: ^. Also that when the quake was going on, that dirt and debris fell continuously from the building.

This geological event did not influence the area. After the earthquake happened the roads and building were all fixed immediately.
