Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2
Calculation Manager
The calculation manager is the resource used in Hyperion 11.1.2.2 to manage, create, and modify the calculations, aggregations, and variables used in Hyperion (HFM, Planning & Essbase can all be managed here). NOTE: In version 11.1.2.1, you could choose between Calculation Manager and Business Rules - managed from Essbase Administration Console (EAS). Calculation Manager allows for more end-user development as there are preset templates available to use, a graphical interface for those who don’t want to edit Essbase code, and debugging help if the rule is not built correctly.

Overview & Navigation
Calculation Manager
Calculation Manager is accessed through Workspace in the “File” menu:

MANAGEMENT CONSULTING SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTATION MANAGED SERVICES
Editing, Modifying, and Deploying Rules
Calculation Manager
This area of the screen shows graphically how the rule is set-up.
This window is where things are edited, such as scripts, variables, text, or properties.
This area is for new objects, adding templates, or existing scripts/calculations.

MANAGEMENT CONSULTING SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTATION MANAGED SERVICES
Editing, Modifying, and Deploying Rules
Calculation Manager
Once the rule is saved, you must Validate then Deploy the rule from the ‘Actions’ menu. Validate ensures all of the code, setup, variables, dimension members, and anything else directly related to the rule is of proper syntax and exists in Hyperion. Use the validate and deploy function to save time. All rules must be deployed before they can be used!!

MANAGEMENT CONSULTING SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTATION MANAGED SERVICES
Editing, Modifying, and Deploying Rules
Calculation Manager
Note: All rules will return a similar error to the following on validate. This has to do with the fact that the rules are designed with local variables to pick up the members on the dataforms. However, these variables do not exist in Essbase, so the validation engine notifies the user that the rule passes validation in Planning but not Essbase. If a user receives this error, it can be disregarded.
See Oracle Knowledge Base Article 1235676.1 for a resolution.

Run Time Prompts and Variables – no major change from Business Rules
Calculation Manager
In Hyperion, variables are used to eliminate hardcoding and enable flexible calculations. Thus a user can create one calculation and have it run for a user selected dimension member, such as a department or version. In the script language, variables are called out with {} brackets.
To create and/or edit variables, access the variables editor from the ‘Tools’ menu in Calculation Manager:

Business Rule Security
Calculation Manager
Once a rule has been created in Calculation Manager, the admin will need to assign that rule to users or groups in order for Hyperion users to have access to the rules. If you are an admin user, on the lower, left side of the planning window is ‘Business Rule Security.’ Click on the ‘+’ next to this item to open the page to assign security to the rules.

Breadcrumbs for Navigating Among Forms
Administrators can set up forms so that planners can invoke them from
shortcut menus. This is how Workforce, Capital Expense and Project
Financial Planning are set up.
Invoking such forms using right-click (shortcut) menus, you can navigate
among them by:
• Clicking the hyperlinked form names at the top of the page. The links
reflect your navigation flow (also called “breadcrumbs”).
• Clicking the tab named for the form.
• Right-clicking and then selecting the form to move to.

Web forms can use validation rules to ensure proper/desired data is being entered correctly into a particular data point. Validations can be set at grid, row, or column levels.
Validation Rules
Example validation rule with condition to highlight the offending cell RED.

Formerly known as Workflow
Approvals
The approvals process in planning is the means by which the budget (or
forecast) is assigned to individual users for input and then promoted to
additional people for review and approval before being finalized and locked
down
The Approvals process uses a Version and Scenario combination provided
both members are enabled for use in the approvals process
www.archetypeconsulting.com Archetype Consulting, Inc – Confidential > 52 10/26/2012
MANAGEMENT CONSULTING SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTATION MANAGED SERVICES
Approvals
The planning units are arranged first by Entity and then by a user selected
dimension (if desired). For the client example, a planning unit is an Entity-
Department combination:
www.archetypeconsulting.com Archetype Consulting, Inc – Confidential > 53 10/26/2012
MANAGEMENT CONSULTING SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTATION MANAGED SERVICES
Each planning unit is assigned an original owner, a first approver, a second
approver/owner, and a final approver:
Approvals
Notifications can be sent by Planning to email of users if the user’s email exists
in the system, Planning is configured with the SMTP mail server, and the
Planning Server is allowed to send email through the company SMTP mail
server
www.archetypeconsulting.com Archetype Consulting, Inc – Confidential > 54 10/26/2012
MANAGEMENT CONSULTING SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTATION MANAGED SERVICES
Approvals
When a planning unit status is changed (i.e. promoted, approved, etc.) the
user has the ability to add a note to the action. These notes are saved in the
system as long as the approvals process remains activated.
Deactivating a planning unit from the approvals process removes all
commentary (approval notes, process flow, etc.) for that planning unit
www.archetypeconsulting.com Archetype Consulting, Inc – Confidential > 55 10/26/2012
MANAGEMENT CONSULTING SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTATION MANAGED SERVICES
Approvals
Approvals process can be tied in with Webform Validation rules. For example, if a
cell value is out of a certain range, the validation rule can block the promotion of
that particular planning unit.

Notes on Migration from Prev. Versions
www.archetypeconsulting.com Archetype Consulting, Inc – Confidential > 58 10/26/2012
MANAGEMENT CONSULTING SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTATION MANAGED SERVICES
Migration from Prev. Versions
• UDA's that are in planning but not being used will be lost during migration
• Composite Forms often do not import correctly and must be rebuilt
• Create a new relational database for Calculation Manager if one does not
already exist
• Security on Business Rules does not translate to security on Calculation
Manager Rules and must be rebuilt
• This is a general tip, but you can use
\oracle\middleware\user_projects\epmsystem**\bin\validate.bat to validate
the installation
• Uninstall existing clients (EAS Console, Financial Reporting Studio,
SmartView) and reinstall using the new installers
Key Takeaways
www.archetypeconsulting.com Archetype Consulting, Inc – Confidential > 60 10/26/2012
MANAGEMENT CONSULTING SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTATION MANAGED SERVICES
Key Takeaways
1. Hyperion Planning has some significant UI differences from 11.1.2.1 and older which need to be addressed with users (i.e. training and setup)
2. Calc Manager and Substitution variables in Planning means more centralized maintenance, but training for administrators
3. Cell Data History provides better ability to monitor changes in data
4. Additional reasons to upgrade when considering the features added in 11.1.2.1 – primarily Validation Rules and Web Form formula columns
5. Patch “300” is scheduled to be released in the coming months
