The Parts of SpeechOr, what to call every word in the English
language
All words in the English language can be divided into categories of what kind of word they are
Makes it so you could know every type of word there is
Usually distinguished as there being 7-9 types
What are parts of speech?
A person, place, thing, or idea.
If it’s physical and you can touch it, or if you can only think it, it’s usually a noun
Falls into common nouns and proper nouns◦ Common: Student Proper: Janelis◦ Common: Pokémon Proper: Pikachu
Noun
Words that can take the place of a noun, usually taking the place of a person, place or thing.
He, she, it, they, we, me, you
If you’re a pro, you won’t repeat the same noun over and over.
Pronouns
Verbs are action words and usually in every sentence
Anything that requires somebody doing something is a verb
Run, think, sit, make, cook, eat, sing, dream
Verb
Words used to describe something
How does it look? How does it sound? How does it smell?
How would you describethis dog?
Adjective
A word that describes a verb, adjective, or other adverb.
Use to tell how, when, where, or to what degree—usually ends in “-ly”
Quickly, strongly, weakly, barely
Adverb
Literally, the easiest one.

In, toward, under, above, at, past, up, down
Preposition
A word that combines single words or groups of words in a sentence

Can be a single word or a phrase
