About the OER

This OER is from the domain Electrical and Allied (Sub domain: Electronics). The topic selected

for this OER is BJT Biasing and Analysis. It consist of four video lecture (Screen Cast) followed

by quiz, within screen-cast, released under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License. It also

provides learning material related to all video in portable data file format. You can watch this video

individually but, it is advisable to watch this video in the sequence given as follows,

Screen Cast 1: Different Type of BJT Biasing Techniques

Screen Cast 2: DC Analysis of Voltage Divider Biased-Common Emitter Amplifier

Screen Cast 3: AC Models of Transistor

Screen Cast 4: AC Analysis of Voltage Divider Biased-Common Emitter Amplifier

Prerequisite: BJT Fundamentals

Operating Regions

OER is downloadable from: https://bjtanalysis.wordpress.com

Target Audience: First year Engineering Students (any domain)

Tags: Transistor biasing, BJT DC analysis, AC model, BJT AC analysis, Voltage Divider

Bias, Emitter bias, Base bias

OER developed in worrdpress.com and the site consists of screencast video made in

Screencast-O-Matic v2.0

This resource is licensed under CC-BY-SA ver 4.0. You are free to use, distribute and

modify it, including for commercial purposes, provided you acknowledge the source and

share-alike.

Learning Objectives

After using this OER, learner will be able to:

Justify the need of biasing if transistor used as an amplifier.

Carry out the DC analysis of Voltage Divider Bias (VDB) circuit.

Justify the presence of components in AC model of transistor and draw it too he

operated at low frequency.

Carry out the AC analysis of CE amplifier.

Helpful Documentation for Tool Use

[1] for design and development of website for OER in wordpress (a Freemium tool)

[2] for use of Screencast-O-Matic (a Freemium Tool)

[3] for use of Tux paint (an open source tool)

Section 2: Design Decisions

Nature of Decisions taken

The design decisions involved in the creation of this OER were of broadly three types:

1. Content Decisions

2. Work-distribution based Decisions

3. Technology Decisions

Content Decisions

The content decisions related to:

Finalizing the topic to be covered – Decided on BJT biasing and Analysis

Learning materials to be provided along with screen-cast videos

Work-distribution based Decisions

BJT biasing and DC as well as AC analysis as to be covered. It was decided that each member will

make a screen-cast video on topic related to biasing, DC analysis and AC analysis of Voltage

Divider Bias circuit and the link of these screen-cast was made available in the website specially

made for this OER in word-press.

Technology Decisions

While developing the screen-as video and website for OER, the major technology decisions

taken were:

Tool to be used for creating screencast – Screencast-O-Matic V2.0, as it had a time limit

of 15 minutes and we were well-versed with that.

Word-press for setting up the website wherein all the screen cast video along with

learning materials are made available and hence make it easier for the learner to access

all the materials from the same site.

How to use OER

Screenshots 1-4 shows the page corresponding to various menu available in the website.

Screenshot 1: Home page of website tells the learner about OER: What it is and how to use it.

Screenshot 2: About page of the website tells the learner about the name and qualifications of the

faculties involved in preparing this particular OER. This page also tells about the FDP which

motivated us to make this OER.

Best Practices

Please go through the screencast video in sequence as specified in home page of the OER

website.

Quiz have been included in three of the screencast video at the end, so please send your

answer through mail to the email id provided in the screencast video.

Section 4: Evaluating Effectiveness of OER

The OER effectiveness can be assessed at two levels:

1. At the student level

2. At the consumer level

Effectiveness at the student level

Effectiveness at the student level involves metrics related to student access of the resource and

student learning.

The quiz provide in three of the screencast video, if attempted and send to the email as provided

in screencast, helps us to know how effectively the students have learnt.

Effectiveness at consumer level

OER consumers are typically teachers who want their students to learn the BJT biasing and

analysis in simpler form. Linking a survey on three main constructs – Ease of Use, Concept

Coverage and Concept Complexity, can help in identifying the effectiveness of this OER at

consumer level. This has to be done as a follow-up activity.

Implementing Survey

We will send the survey questions to the teacher who tries to contact us through the contact page

of the website or send us a personal mail for commenting on the screencast or asking any doubt.

We would like to have their feedback in terms of following questions.

Survey Questions

1) Ease of Use

2) Concept Coverage

3) Concept Complexity

Section 6: Building a Community of Electronics

Domain

Possible Sources for Community Building

Some of the viable sources for building a community are:

• Teachers who are part of this FDP and of Electrical and its allied domain

• Teachers who plan to use Flipped Classroom Strategies for the topics related to Electronics
