Day in your life:

“The concept of student engagement is still relatively new, and so a lot of the meetings I have are about how the work that I’m doing and student life in general can interact in oth-er areas of the university. Some of it is plan-

ning, so trying to achieve some of the goals that we

have for our depart-mental and divisional strategic objectives, and then some of those conversations and things that are happening that we

would be reacting to on campus.”

What do you value about the Northwestern community?

“I’m amazed at the range of things that students are involved in, the level of sophistication that people have in their approaches, and we have a lot of exceptional things going on on campus. I see my job as trying to weave these passions and interests together to bring students to get the full breadth of Northwestern.”

Define your personal character:

“Fairness. One of the values that we have here in Student Affairs is the idea of social justice. I want people to get the most out of Northwest-ern. I’m curious about people, and I’m curious about how they experience the place.”

Day in your life:

“When we get here, we are ready for 70 kids to come into the (Washington Elementary) cafete-ria. There’s sometimes running around. There’s sometimes tattle telling. There’s sometimes rumors spreading around. Sometimes hugging, and chilling; they’re chilling with their homies at

that point. Then we line up and break up into our grade levels. And we do our

homework, and we try and do as much one-on-one help depend-

ing on how many staff we have. We have spanish speakers, english speakers, and we try to reach out to everyone’s needs.”

Define your personal character:

“I am completely compassionate. I

love bringing things out of people. I love seeing people trans-

form.”

How has Northwestern made an impact?

“In the office, we plan for program. We depend a lot on the work study staff to bond with the kids, and to interact with them. Yea, if we didn’t have our work study folks, this program would be 3 staff and 70 kids.”

What do you value about Northwestern?

“People. I meet great people. My job invovles dealing with people from the time I get here, from the time I leave at night, and on weekends. Northwestern people.”

Define your personal character:

“Damn, that’s hard. I’m hard working, I will say that. If I have to say something on my behalf,

I’m hard working: I put my nose to the grindstone.”

Day in your life:

“So when I come to work, whatever I do during the day, if it advances what Northwestern is all about then I’m happy to do it. Because I am very supportive of the mission of the Univer-sity. It’s about the creation of knowledge, the dissmenation of

knowledge. It’s a wonderful mission.”

Day in your life:

“Wake up at a quarter to 5 am. I put on a little make up, brush my teeth and hair. When I get to the C-Store, I make a list of products I need and get everything ready to open the store by 7am! I swipe students in for meals and also check out items for the store. After work, I leave to pick up my kids from school; I have two boys who are 13 year old and 9 year old. I make dinner for the kids and in the meantime, they do homework. We all eat together. While they are working, I clean and help them with their homework. The kids have to start getting ready to go to bed by 8:45 and by 9 they need to be in bed, because by 10:30 I need to be in bed!”

What do you value about Northwestern?

“The students! They’re so nice. The students are very polite, respectful, and very nice people. You guys are the best!”

Define your personal character:

“I love my life.I love the way I live.

I thank God everyday. He lets me see my kids grow and

the people around me. Every day I wake up, I tell myself this is another beautiful day. I am a

positive person. One time, a stu-dent asked me why am I always

happy. I’m happy because I try to be happy.”

Day in your life:

“Surprisingly, I’ve actually been going to classes and doing alright in school. Beyond that, I fill my time with ASG related stuff, whether that’s meetings, doing work on projects that we’re currently undertaking, or the other things that Northwestern students do.”

What do you value about Northwestern?

“I’m grateful for the opportunities to be able to interact with students, facult, and administrators, and learn from them, because that’s really what col-lege is all about for me, is being able to grow not just as a person, not just as an intellectual, but also as a friend and things like that.”

Define your personal character:

“I think I’m an optimistic person who gets along well with others that tries to bring out the best in them. I care a lot about other people, and am the type of person that would rather be liked than feared by others, and that’s the way that I work with people.”
