2015 Chocolate Camp Annual Restaurant & Retail Division Conference
January 25 – 27, 2015 | San Francisco, California
ONE GH IRARDELL I | 3
A Welcome from Yvo Smit Dear Campers,
We are very excited to have you here with us in beautiful San Francisco, the city where the
Ghirardelli Chocolate Company was born over 163 years ago. Having the opportunity to
conduct our annual Restaurant and Retail meeting here at Ghirardelli Square is truly ideal as
it brings us back to where it all started, to our roots and enables us to experience firsthand our
unique heritage I wish Domingo was able to join us to celebrate our 2014 results and to hear
our exciting objectives and plans for 2015. I think he would be proud and enthusiastic about
our accomplishments and future aspirations. Do you think he could have ever envisioned his
company reaching $500 million dollars this year?
As you will discover this week, our heritage and San Francisco will become an even more
important part of the uniform company message as it is communicated to all consumers,
no matter where they purchase our products. We are One Ghirardelli and our heritage and
San Francisco message must be consistent.
This booklet gives you just a glimpse of what makes San Francisco so special. However, nothing
is more memorable than experiencing San Francisco for yourself — just like our stores — which is
why I encourage you to be really present while you are here enjoying our city. As you review the
agenda, you will note that we have tried to make it as practical and useful as possible.
During day 1, new campers will go through a “reorientation” of sorts with the company to
complement the knowledge you’ve already amassed since your orientation day. We will share
real life experiences and give you information that is practical and directly applicable to the
challenges you’re encountering in your stores. Day 2 will be about our division. We will lay out
our goals for 2015 and present you with plans and tools to achieve them. Day 3 will give you a
good impression of our global company and how we can work together to achieve our goals.
The corporate team has put a lot of thought, time and preparation into this meeting. The next
couple of days will be full of information and also a lot of fun. Make sure you take full advantage
of it as it’s up to you to take advantage of all the benefits of being here together. During this
week, please make sure you participate, catch up with old friends and meet new ones who will
be attending Chocolate Camp for the first time. This meeting is one of the best opportunities for
you to share ideas, problems and solutions with likeminded professionals who can relate to you
and the challenges of running our business. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions and
make sure you take all information back with you to your stores to share with your teams.
I’m delighted you’re here and couldn’t think of a better way or better place to kick off what I’m
sure you’ll agree is going to be a great year for our company!
Kind Regards,
Yvo D. Smit
Vice President, Restaurant and Retail Division Ghirardelli Chocolate

FACT: The art deco tower, built of unpainted reinforced concrete, was designed by architects Arthur J. Brown Jr. and Henry Howard with fresco murals. There were 27 different on-site artists and their numerous assistants, plus two additional paintings that were installed after creation off-site. Legend has it that the tower was designed to resemble a fire hose nozzle due to Lillie Hitchcock Coit’s affinity with the San Francisco firefighters of the day. However, the resemblance is coincidental.
FACT: San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf gets its name and neighborhood characteristics from the city’s early days of the mid to later 1800s when Italian immigrant fishermen came to the city by the bay to take advantage of the influx of population due to the gold rush.
