God is faithful, and by him you were called to fellowship with
his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Once more we are in the time of
Ad-vent, and maybe this year more than usual we are called to renew
our trust in the faithfulness of God and our call to act as
brothers and sisters, members of the Body of Christ. As we continue
to work under the pandemic protocols to keep one another safe, let
us ask the Holy Spirit, who filled Mary our mother with grace, to
open our hearts to God’s presence in our midst, right now.
During Advent we will not have a penance service as usual, but
we will add times when you can come for confession, and you can
also call and make an appointment to celebrate this important
sacrament which helps us focus on the coming of our Savior. May God
bless and keep you always!

especially women, may participate more in areas of re-sponsibility

by Florida State University found that children who were verbally
abused are more likely to experi-ence depression and anxiety. They
are also twice as likely to suffer with mood and anxiety disorders
throughout their lifetime. Children who suffer such abuse can go on
to repeat the same parenting styles they experienced thereby
continu-ing the cycle of abuse. Pay atten-tion to the language you
and others use with your children. Breaking the chain of negative
behaviors starts with positive, healthy parent-child relationships.

I am very grateful for all who have been helping livestream our
Mass-es. We are having a raffle in order to buy equipment to make
this a better experience. Prizes are a love-ly gingerbread house
from Solvang Bakery, a gift basket from Succu-lent Café, and a
Christmas center-piece. Tickets are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00,

MARK’S JESUS
Mark’s Gospel is the shortest and tersest of all four. The
discourses of Jesus tend to be terser as well. Mark’s portrayal of
Jesus has none of the poetry of the Sermon on the Mount or the
Sermon on the Plain as in Matthew or Luke, nor the exten-sive,
reflective “I Am” discourses as in John. Mark’s Jesus “cuts to the
chase,” we would say today. This is reflected quite well in today’s
pas-sage.
It is no accident that the dialogue of Jesus at this point in
the Gospel according to Mark—the concluding words about the end of
the world—immediately before his passion, is riddled with
exclamation points and an overall sense of urgency.
We would do well to re-tool our own way of living this Advent,
for we live in a world urgently in need of hearing the message of
Jesus pro-claimed. It’s time for us to “wake up!” and get out into
the world to do it.

Primer Domingo de Adviento
¿SABÍA USTED? Los efectos devastadores del abuso verbal. Un
estudio de la Universidad Estatal de la Florida encontró que los
niños que fueron abusados verbalmente tienden a experimentar más
depresión y ansiedad. Además, son más propensos a sufrir desórdenes
de temperamento y ansiedad a lo largo de su vida. Los niños que
sufren de abuso pueden repetir los mismos estilos de paternidad que
ellos experimentaron, continuando con el mismo ciclo de abuso.

tener más oportunidades para confesar, y siempre se puede hacer una
cita con uno de los padres para celebrar este sacramento
importante. ¡Que Dios les cuide siempre!
