RENK MAAG Turbo Gears

In April 2007, the RENK MAAGGmbH took over the turbo gear “G”series from MAAG Gear AG. Turbogears have been manufactured byMAAG for more than 90 years. Thefirst turbo gears were designed withstraight teeth with a circumferencevelocity of the teeth of more than60 m/s. Already at that time theteeth of pinion and wheel were casehardened and ground. Later thesingle helical teeth and the doublehelical teeth were introduced, whichhave proven their reliability till now.The turbo gear technology hascontinuously been improved andrefined in the past years. Nowadaysthe “G” series is continued by RENK-MAAG GmbH to the same extentand can be regarded as completionof the SG, GB, GN, GS series types.The most modern technologies andthe latest knowledge gained in thefield of gear cutting and bearingsas well as in terms of design andmanufacture are being taken intoconsideration.

RENK MAAG Turbo Gear of “G” Series

Assembly of a HET®-High Efficiency Turbo gear.These gears are specifically designed for powergeneration and com-pressor drive markets. Powerloss is 50% lower than with a conventional gear. Theefficiency of a GD-80, 90 kW gear unit is 99.4%.

G-80 Standard gear unit type with slide bearing and base centredistance of 800 mm.The actual centre distance is determined on the basis of theoperating data.

For the turbo gears of “G” seriesthe following was introduced:

• Fully automatic, computersupported rating and design

• Optimisation of centre distanceand face width

• Casing made of steel, welded(increased axial rigidity)

• Individually adjustable bearings• Separation from axial and radial

bearings• No bearing brackets, adjustable

bearing for tooth contact pat-tern

• 4-lobe support for easyalignment

GD-80 Standard gear unit type with slide bearing and double helicalteeth and a base centre distance of 800 mm.The actual centre distance is determined on the basis of theoperating data.

GD-80 HET Standard gear unit type with slide bearing and doublehelical teeth and a base distance of 800 mm, with vacuumtechnology to achieve extremely high efficiency.The actual centre distance is determined on the basis of theoperating data.

Explanation of type designation:

The single helical teeth of “G” series may also be designed with thrust collar.Upon customers’ request the proven SG, GN, GS and GB turbo gears willalso be supplied in the future. Deliveries of spare parts for turbo gears offormer types supplied and still to be supplied will be guaranteed.
