Heart of England U3A Activities of Various Groups

Dinahs Luncheon Group went to The Red Li-on in Stratford for their December meeting and lunch. The photograph below shows the group.

Pilates Group met for a Christmas lunch:

The Speaker at the December meeting was Martin Lloyd, who spoke about “Passports, Assassins, Traitors and Spies”. He gave a very interesting talk about some aspects of life, looked at through the eyes of someone who has spent a lots of time in HM Govern-ment office, particularly the Passport Of-fice. It was very entertaining and sparked

some interesting questions at the end.

U3A Choir Concert - “Gaudete” Friday 21st December 2018

The Christmas Concert was a very enter-taining performance by the choir with tra-ditional and other carols and with some amusing interludes. The basic outline of the concert was as the leaflet distributed around the seats. Also distributed around the seats were some Carol songbooks from which the audience were able to choose a few carols during the concert. The choir and audience then sang the chosen carols, as they were usually well-known ones.

The concert was directed and lead by the Musical Director, Stewart Wallace. At in-tervals he asked for volunteers from the audience to choose a Christmas cracker from his bag. After pulling the cracker the member of the audience was asked to hold

on to the toy until later in the concert, to find the enclosed riddle or joke and allow Stewart to read it out to the audience. The hat could be worn or not.

Towards the end of the concert Stewart persuaded the audience members who had collected toys from the crackers to assem-ble at the front of the hall and to produce the toys. These were a collection of 6 whistles, numbered 1 to 6, and with whistle notes differing to give roughly an octave. He then conducted them in a couple of car-

Science and Nature and All Things Technical Group Christmas Social and Quiz - Friday 8th December 2018

The Christmas Social and Quiz took place in The New Room at the Stratford Meth-odist Church Centre on Friday 8th Decem-ber. As usual, Bob and Chris Heaps were the quizmasters. There were 6 teams of 3-4 people spread around the room.

The questions must have been a shade more difficult this year as the scores did not ex-ceed 13 from 25 questions and in previous years we have had scores above 20. We all enjoyed the quiz

Following the quiz there was time for drink and to sample the excellent buffet repast on offer. Again, the organising committee had organised members to bring a good range of dishes so we could all find some-thing of interest to eat. Thanks to all who came for the afternoon and to those who contributed to the event.
