I am Respectful. I use and share

equipment appropriately.

Learning Dispositions – Empathy and

Curiosity

It has been exciting to hear and see all our

classes focusing on the concept of

‘empathy’ for the last five weeks. This has

been the first of our eight learning

dispositions on which we will be focusing

throughout the year. With all of the world

events in recent times, the idea of ‘walking

in another’s shoes’ or seeing multiple

perspectives is of high importance both in

learning and in life. I hope families continue

to discuss the idea of empathy throughout

the year.

Next week the focus moves to ‘curiosity’ –

a strong desire to learn or know something.

Curiosity is about asking questions and

seeking information. Classes will explore

this concept in depth over the next five

weeks. Keep an eye on the newsletter and

be sure to model and explore the idea of

being curious with your

children. The desire to learn or know

something is a crucial driver for learning.

Adventure Playspace

After hours of planning and organisation,

our Adventure Playspace is really taking

form. The slide has arrived and been

installed. We are hoping the area will be

ready for the commencement of Term 2.

I would like to extend a special thanks to

Cade Davidson and Rob Brough who

worked on the installation on Sunday.

Thankyou also to Gidon Bar-Giora and

Jarrah Davisdon for time, materials and

equipment. This generosity has ensured the

P&C can provide a quality and unique

adventure playspace at an affordable price

for all our children. Please be sure to stay

off the area until its completion.

P&C AGM

Don’t forget the P&C AGM will be held in

the staffroom from 7.00pm on Tuesday,

followed by the regular meeting. Childcare

is available if needed. Please be sure to

come along and support our school!

Sports

I would like to apologise for the

misinformation in last week’s newsletter.

Congratulations to Palm house on

winning our swimming carnival. Well done

to our swimmers who competed at Zone

this week. A special mention must be made

of Macy Eastwell who will represent the

North Coast at the PSSA State Swimming

Carnival in Sydney. What an outstanding

achievement!

Teddy C, Summer B and Zephyr D all

gained selection in Zone Tennis. Oska M,

Beau T, Stella A and Josie F were selected

in the District Soccer while Taj J and

Tommy N participated in the zone

basketball trials today. Well done to all our

students who are taking advantage of the

opportunity to participate in PSSA Sports.

Bundjalung word of the week - week 7

Principal Report continued Write Here, Write Now

Check out the report and photos from the first

of three workshops our extension writers

enjoyed as part of the Byron Writers Festival’s

Storyboard program.

Sigge’s Smoothies

Students in Years 2-6 enjoyed fresh mango

smoothies made from our own mangoes this

week. How great it is to see children enjoy

delicious treats from our school garden/orchard.

Fairy Garden

Tania Collins has removed some of our fairy

houses from the fairy garden for renovations.

This is a beautiful, passive playspace in the in-

fants play area. I ask all families to monitor young

children in the area to ensure it is preserved for

all to enjoy. Please make sure there is no running,

jumping or removal of items. It is especially

important that children do not try to move the

houses.

Stewart House Donation Drive

For almost 90 years, Stewart House has

supported families and children who would

benefit from a break. Recently, this has included

children from families impacted by drought and

bushfires. Children from NSW public schools

attend a 12 day program in Sydney to help them

develop physical, social and emotional wellbeing.

Children who are fortunate enough to attend

have an amazing experience absolutely love it.

Your child should have received a ‘donation

drive’ envelope. For only $2 you could win a

$4000 holiday. Please consider sending $2 to go

into the draw and support this wonderful charity.

For more information go to: https://

Debating Monday's debating workshop was

excellent. The 12 wonderful students behaved

impeccably, participated enthusiastically and

learnt, developed and practiced techniques of

debating. They each had an opportunity to

develop an argument and to rebut an

opposing opinion. I also clarified/upskilled my

own debating knowledge which has

changed significantly since my debating days. I

look forward to selecting a debating team

from this very capable group.

following options -

www.theschoolphotgrapher.com.au and

select the ‘click here for online payments’

button and follow the on screen instruc-

tions

2. Call their office on 9674 9824 and they

will take your credit card payment over

the phone. (Note– there is a processing

fee of $5 for phone payments)

What is my pee telling me? With hot weather set to continue across the first part of this year, it is important to make sure

children are drinking plenty of water to stop dehydration. Two thirds of the human body is made up

of water so we all need to drink enough water to function properly. By the time a child feels thirsty,

they are probably dehydrated, and this can have a big impact on their attention, concentration

alertness and mood.

A great way for children to check if they are drinking enough water is to encourage them to check

the colour or their pee – if it’s clear they are drinking enough water, but if it’s dark yellow or brown

they need to drink more often.

Some tips to avoid dehydration: make school a water only place: always include a water bottle in

your child’s bag (chilled and insulated or frozen overnight is great!)encourage children to have a big

drink of water before school and when they come home encourage children to put their drink bot-

tle on their desk and sip throughout day teachers can make sure children drink water before, during

and after playing games and sport practice using bubblers so your children are comfortable using

them if needed. Also practice opening and filling water bottles with them so they can top their water

bottle up be a role model for your family – let your children see you enjoying water throughout the

day as well.

Storyboard Bus Enrichment Writing Program

As we walk along the side of the road, listening to the

sound of the wind and the birds chirping, we look up to see

Zanni Louise standing out the front of a great big bus. The

big bus is covered with all different patterns, pictures and

stories. A giant logo reading Storyboard, Byron Writers

Festival came into view. We see different coloured tents

and rugs as we round the corner of the bus. Everyone

rushes to find a spot in the tents, excited to learn. As Zanni

Louise teaches us all about writing and the techniques be-

hind it, we listen and learn how to plan and write a story.

We get to visit the Storyboard bus again at the end of the

month, which I am looking forward to. I think we all had a

great morning with Zanni Louise.

Poetry by 3/4T

3/4T has been doing some incredible poetry with Mrs Jordan. All of our poems are amazing, but here is a small

sample of their high quality work.

Under my Bed by Lailah

A rusty old hook

An old egg from my chook

A little green pea from last night’s dinner

A golden trophy because I was the winner

A yucky old apple I should eat

A toy from my friend, it is so neat!

A Buddha found on the dirty ground

An awesome rubber that I found

A fluffy brown dog on a mug

A little green stinky bug

A little fake wedding ring

An old bell that doesn’t ding

And one more thing I must confess

A note from Mum, “Clean this MESS!”

Under My Bed by Zakai

A rusty, leaking can of soda

A very mould toy Yoda

A rubbery miniature water slide

A drawing book made from rabbit’s hide

An ugly giant furry spider

An ugly doll my sister named Ryder

A stupid little toy I’ve never played with

A gigantic monster I thought was a myth

A glass of water that I spilled

An old dog that I killed

And one more thing I must confess,

A note from RSPCA: You’re under ARREST!!!!

Under My Bed by Esha

An old flip phone that I thought I’d sold

An apple covered in mould

An old pear with a bad bruise

A pair of stinky dirty shoes

A glass of orange juice that I spilled

An old fish that was killed

An old favourite book

A rusty old hook

A science test that I failed

A letter that I should’ve mailed

And one more thing I must confess

A note from Mum: Clean this MESS!!!
