    Check your state and local trafc laws before mounting. Currently, state laws in California and Minnesotaprohibit drivers from using suction mounts on their windshields while operating motor vehicles. OtherGarmin dashboard or friction mounting options should be used. Seepage 12for more details.

    Step 1: Mount the nviSelect a suitable location to mount the nvi on your windshield. Clean and dry thesuction cup and the selected area of your windshield.

    1. Plug the power cable into the back of the nvi.

    2. Fit the ball on the end of the mount into theround socket on the cradle and press rmlyuntil it snaps together.

    3. Place the suction cup on the windshield, andip the lever back toward the windshield.

    4. Press the bottom of the nvi into the cradle,and snap the top of the nvi into place.

    5. Plug the power cable into a power outletin your vehicle. Your unit should turn onautomatically if it is plugged in and your

    vehicle key is turned to ON/ACC.Ways to Charge the nvi

    Connect the vehicle power cable to the nviand to a power outlet in your vehicle.

    Connect an AC adapter (optional accessory)

    Step 2: Congure the nviTo turn on your nvi, slide thePowerkey to the left. Follow theon-screen instructions.

    To turn off your nvi, slide thePowerkey to the left.

    Step 3: Acquire Satellites

    Before the nvi can nd your currentlocation and navigate a route, you mustdo the following:

    1. Go outdoors to an open area, awayfrom tall buildings and trees.

    2. Turn on the nvi. Acquiring satellitesignals can take a few minutes.

    The bars indicate satellite strength.When at least one of the bars are green,the nvi has acquired satellite signals.

    Now you can select a destination andnavigate to it.

    NOTE: Software on your nvicould differ from the screen shotsin this manual.

    Spelling the NameYou can spell the name or part of thename of the location you are looking

    for using the on-screen keyboard.

    1. Touch Where to > Points ofInterest.

    2. Touch Spell Name.

    3. Using the on-screen keyboard, enterletters in the name. Touch Done.

    4. Touch the place you are looking for,and touch Go.

    Go Home

    Set your home location for the placeyou return to most often. Touch Whereto> Favorites> Go Home. Select anoption to set your home location.

    After you set your home location, route

    to it at any time by touching Where to> Favorites> Go Home.

    Adding a Stop to the RouteYou can add one via point (stop) to theroute. The nvi routes you to the via

    point and then to your destination.

    1. With a route active, touch Menu>Where to,and search for the viapoint.

    2. Touch the place you are looking for,

    and touch Go.

    3. Select Add as Via Point.

    Taking a DetourIf you need to take a detour when you

    are navigating a route, touch Menu>Detour. The nvi attempts to get you

    back on your original route, as soon aspossible. If the route you are currentlytaking is the only reasonable option, the

    nvi might not calculate a detour.Stopping the RouteTo stop navigating a route, touch Menu> Stop.

    VIEWINGTHEMAPPAGETouch View mapto open the Map page. The vehicle icon shows your

    current location. Touch to save your current location. Touch the map and dragto view different parts of the map. Touch any object on the map; an arrow appears

    pointing at the object.

    After you touch Go, the Map page opens with your route marked with a magentaline. As you travel, your nvi guides you to your destination with voice prompts,

    arrows on the map, and directions at the top of the Map page. A checkeredag marks your destination. If you depart from the original route, your nvirecalculates the route and provides new directions.

    Locking Your nvi1. Touch > Settings> Security.2. Touch the button next to Garmin

    Lock. Touch OK.

    3. Enter a four-digit PIN. TouchYestoaccept the PIN.

    4. Touch OK. Drive to a securitylocation (any location to which youreturn frequently, such as your homeor ofce). Touch Set.

    Each time you turn on the nvi, enterthe four-digit PIN or drive to thesecurity location. To unlock your nviat your security location, the nvi musthave acquired satellite signals.

    NOTE: If you forget your PIN andyour security location, you mustsend your nvi to Garmin to getit unlocked. You must also send avalid product registration or proofof purchase.

    Adjusting the VolumeTouch . Touch to lower thevolume or to raise the volume.

    Adjusting the ScreenBrightnessTouch > Settings> Display >Brightness. Touch to lower the

    brightness and to raise it.

    Locking the Screen

    To prevent accidental screen taps, slidethe Powerkey to the right ( ). Tounlock the screen, slide the Powerkeyto the center position.

    Resetting Your nviIf your unit stops responding, turn offthe unit, and then turn it back on. If thisdoes not help, reset your nvi.

    CAUTION: Do not reset your nvi

    with a ballpoint pen or other sharpobject, which could damge yourunit.

    1. Disconnect the nvi from externalpower.

    2. Press the RESETbutton on thebottom of the nvi.

    3. Connect the nvi to a power source.

    Clearing User Data

    CAUTION: This deletes all user-entered information.

    1. Hold your nger on the lower-rightcorner of the nvis screen whileturning on the nvi.

    2. Keep your nger pressed until thepop-up window appears.

    3. TouchYesto clear all user data.

    All original settings are restored. Anyitems that you have saved are erased.

    Mounting on YourDashboardUse the enclosed mounting disk tomount your unit to the dashboardand to comply with certain stateregulations.

    IMPORTANT: The permanent

    mounting adhesive is extremelydifcult to remove after it isinstalled.

    1. Clean and dry the dashboard whereyou are placing the disk.

    2. Remove the backing from thepermanent mounting adhesive on thebottom of the disk.

    3. Place the disk on the dashboard.

    4. Place the suction cup mount on

    top of the disk. Flip the lever down(toward the disk).

    Changing the Fuse

    CAUTION: When replacing thefuse, do not lose any of the smallpieces and make sure they are putback in the proper place.

    If your unit will not charge in yourvehicle, you may need to replace the

    fuse located at the tip of the vehicleadapter.

    1. Unscrew andremove the silveror black, round endpiece.

    2. Remove the fuse (glass and silvercylinder) and replace with a 1A fastblow fuse.

    3. Ensure that thesilver tip is placedin the end piece.Screw on the endpiece.

    Warnings

    Failure to avoid the following potentiallyhazardous situations could result in an accidentor collision resulting in death or serious injury.

    When installing the unit in a vehicle, place theunit securely so it does not obstruct the driversview of the road or interfere with vehicleoperating controls, such as the steering wheel,

    foot pedals, or transmission levers. Do not placein front of or above any airbag.

    Do not mountwhere driverseld of visionis blocked.

    Do not placeunsecured on

    the vehicledashboard.

    Do not mount in front of an

    airbag eld of deployment.When navigating, carefully compareinformation displayed on the unit to allavailable navigation sources, includinginformation from street signs, visual sightings,and maps. For safety, always resolve anydiscrepancies or questions before continuing

    navigation and defer to posted road signs.

    Always operate the vehicle in a safe manner.Do not become distracted by the unit whiledriving, and always be fully aware of alldriving conditions.Minimize the amountof time spent viewing the units screen whiledriving and use voice prompts when possible.

    Do not input destinations, change settings, oraccess any functions requiring prolonged use ofthe units controls while driving. Pull over in asafe and legal manner before attempting suchoperations.

    The unit is designed to provide routesuggestions. It is not designed to replace the

    need for driver attentiveness regarding roadclosures or road conditions, trafc congestion,weather conditions, or other factors that mayaffect safety while driving.

    Battery WarningsIf these guidelines are not followed, the internallithium-ion battery may experience a shortenedlife span or may present a risk of damage to theGPS unit, re, chemical burn, electrolyte leak,and/or injury.

    Do not remove or attempt to remove the non-

    user-replaceable battery.

    Do not leave the unit exposed to a heat sourceor in a high temperature location, such as inthe sun in an unattended vehicle. To preventdamage, remove the unit from the vehicle orstore it out of direct sunlight, such as in theglove box.

    Do not puncture or incinerate.

    When storing the unit for an extended time, storewithin the following temperature range: 32 to77F (0 to 25C).

    Do not operate the unit outside of the followingtemperature range: -4 to 131F (-20 to 55C).

    When disposing of the unit, take it to aprofessional service, such as a waste electronicstreatment facility, to have the battery removedand recycled.

    Caring for Your nviYour nvi contains sensitive electronic components

    Do not store the nvi where prolonged exposureto extreme temperatures can occur, because itcan cause permanent damage.

    Cleaning the UnitThe nvi is constructed of high-quality materials

    than cleaning. Clean the units outer casing (notthe touch screen) using a cloth dampened with amild detergent solution, and then wipe dry. Avoidchemical cleaners and solvents that can damage

    plastic components.Cleaning the Touch ScreenClean the touch screen with a soft, clean, lint-freecloth. Use water, isopropyl alcohol, or eyeglasscleaner, if needed. Apply the liquid to the cloth, andthen gently wipe the touch screen.

    Avoiding TheftTo avoid theft, remove the nvi and mount fromsight when not in use. Remove the residue onthe windshield left by the suction cup.

    Do not keep your unit in the glove compartment.

    Use the Garmin Lock feature.

    Software License AgreementBY USING THE nvi, YOU AGREE TO BEBOUND BY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONSOF THE FOLLOWING SOFTWARE LICENSEAGREEMENT. PLEASE READ THISAGREEMENT CAREFULLY.

    Garmin grants you a limited license to use thesoftware embedded in this device (the Software)
