NSSEDs coaches are individuals who have specialized knowledge in research-based practices and innovative programs and strat egies. Our team members haveyears of experience working in districts in the northern suburbs of Chicago andhave been successful in supporting schools to improve student outcomes.
Coaching and consultation can target needs at the individual student, classroom, school, or district-levels. Our
coaches approach each collaboration and consultation as a pa rtnership. When coaches and staff interact together
equally and as partners, the outcomes are maximized. These services are designed to support and compliment the
instruction and services that students are receiving in their home schools and communities.
The ultimate goal is to increase the capacity of the educators that are receiving the coaching to meet the academic
and behavioral needs and improve the outcomes of ALL students.

What is A Coaching Brie A Coaching/Consult Brie is a brie oppor tunity (taking no longer than an hour) or a District Ser vices Coach
to gather in ormation about a district request or Coaching/Consulting support. This may include the type o
request, the level o expertise required and the amount o time needed to complete the request and provide
necessary support.
When Does a Coaching/Consult Brie occur? A Coaching and Consult Brie occurs when a NSSED Member Distri ct that does not currently receive contracted
NSSED District Services Coaching support, makes a request or coaching or consultative support. This may
include a districts concerns related to a student in regards to assessment, IEP goal development, problem-
solving, curriculum support, specifc interventions, behavior support, parent communication and partnership,
etc. and/or classroom or programmatic support which may include continuum o services, assessment, curricu-
lum, RtI, teaming and partnership.
What is the Process?When a NSSED member district requests coaching/consultative services then the district will be asked to fll
out the Coaching/Consult Brie and give it to the Coordinator or Pro essional Development and Coaching. The
Coordinator or Pro essional Development and Coaching will then give it to a Lead Coach or other designated
coach to review and ollow-up. A Coaching/Consult Brie will then be set up and completed. Once the Coach-
ing and Consulting Brie is completed then a designated District Services Coach (which may or may not be the
coach that completed the Brie ) will be provided to complete the request.

What is Physical Therapy
Physical therapy in a school setting is considered arelated service that ocuses on the students abilityto move as independently as possible in the schoolenvironment. The physical therapists work is designedto enable the student to travel throughout the schoolenvironment; participate in classroom activities;maintain and change position in the classroom; aswell as manage stairs, restrooms, and the ca eteria.
The NSSED physical therapist consults with parents and the educational team regarding students whose mobility,transportation, or related accessibility appear to be a ecting academic per ormance.
NSSED physical therapy services are provided across all a broad range o educational environments and multiple levels oservice. The NSSED physical therapist may work one-on-one with a student or provide services in a group activity. Directservices involve a therapists carrying out a specifcally designed program in individual or group therapy sessions. Activities
are done with the purpose o improving the underlying causes o the motor delays in areas such as strength, motor controland coordination. Improving these underlying components will allow the student to per orm more independently, sa ely ande fciently within the classroom.program. A general guideline is that therapy contributes to the development, improvement ormaintenance o the students unctional level within the educational environment.
Consultation services involve the physical therapists assessing and consulting on motor per ormance in the classroom.Through collaboration with the teachers and parents, strategies are developed which enable the teachers and parents tointeract with the student more e ectively. The primary goal o this type o intervention is to adapt the environment and or theeducational program.

What is Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy in a school setting is considereda related service that is provided to enhancethe students ability to adapt and to unction in theeducation setting. Additionally, NSSED occupational therapists provide consultative services or teachers, teaching assistants and relatedclassroom management as well as consult on the implementation o programs o beneft all students in a general educationclassroom. What is Assistive Technology
Technology Services at NSSED includes instructional,assistive, and in ormational technology. While eacho these three areas o technology are distinct in manyways, there is also much overlap. New technologiesavailable, such as the iPad and other tablet computers,are blurring the lines because they can serve multipleunctions. What is the Process?When a NSSED member district requests coaching/consultative services then the district will be asked to fll
out the Coaching/Consult Brie and give it to the Coordinator or Pro essional Development and Coaching. TheCoordinator or Pro essional Development and Coaching will then give it to a Lead Coach or other designated
coach to review and ollow-up. A Coaching/Co nsult Brie will then be set up and completed. Once the Coach-ing and Consulting Brie is completed then a designated District Services Coach (which may or may not be thecoach that completed the Brie ) will be provided to complete the request.

7 ModelModeling can come in many di erent orms and can occur at di erent times: in themoment or scheduled. A checklist can be utilized pre or post the actual modeling. It isbest practice to ask permission to model unless the team has already made the request.Utilize an I Do, We Do, You Do model when possible (sca old level o support).

NSSEDs coaches are individuals who have specialized knowledge in research-based practices and innovative programs and strategies. Our team members haveyears of experience working in districts in the northern suburbs of Chicago andhave been successful in supporting schools to improve student outcomes.
Coaching and consultation can target needs at the individual student, classroom, school, or district-levels. Ourcoaches approach each collaboration and consultation as a partnership. When coaches and staff interact together
equally and as partners, the outcomes are maximized. These services are designed to support and compliment theinstruction and services that students are receiving in their home schools and communities.
The ultimate goal is to increase the capacity of the educators that are receiving the coaching to meet the academicand behavioral needs and improve the outcomes of ALL students.

Annual ContractDistricts can enter into an annualcontract for coaching services.
This package is intended to serve a school or a districtservice on a regular weekly basis, and represents asignifcant cost savings over the hourly service rate.Goals or service are identifed and coaching services arecustomized to meet the districts goals. These servicesmay include coaching, assessment, and workshops asdescribed above. A hal day cont ract represents 3.5hours o weekly service and the ull day represents 7.0 oweekly service which includes a combination o direct andindirect services.
All district servi ces costs includes t ime that a coachspends on site providing consultation (direct services) inaddition to travel time, preparation, communication, andother activities that may improve the quality o the serviceprovided (indirect services).
