Meeting of Minds 17, 28

Dear friends,A number of years ago we had a major focus on mental fitness in the newsletter andat the Center. Since that time, I continue to try keep up to date on the latestresearch. One of the reoccurring themes is what is good for your heart, is good foryour brain. Good nutrition and exercise are keys to a healthy body and a healthymind. There are so many options at the Center to stay active. We have tried tomake the newsletter a little easier to navigate and have listed all of the fitnessoptions on the schedule on page 43. There is really something for everyone.

Another suggestion is to try something new! I recently had the pleasure of teaching one of our members to swim. She had always wanted to learn but neverhad the opportunity. She was overjoyed as she made her way down the pool with a verywell executed freestyle. For those of us who grew up with exposure to the water, this may be second nature. But, for someone who has never been taught how to swim, she had to incorporate breathing and coordinating her body in a whole new way. She was delighted! There are other fun ways to stay active like the Let’sDance or Line Dance groups, the shuffleboard, table tennis or billiards. As the weather warms, you may consider joiningthe horseshoe group or the walking group.

The Center provides many opportunities to learn new things. This is the perfect time to take a new class or workshop tolearn about something new or to try out a new form of exercise. Many of our classes are free or very reasonable andyou are welcome to try any (or all) of our exercise classes for free the first time until you find something that is just right. Staying socially connected is so important for every stage of our life. I encourage you to join us for lunch. There is reallynothing like a freshly prepared meal for a very reasonable cost. Lunchtime is the perfect time to meet new people, make new friends or reconnect with old ones. It is always heartwarming to walk into the dining room and hear peoplelaughing and talking.

Enjoy spring!

Thank you to all of our Annual Appeal donors listed on pages8-9. Your support helps us to continue to offer a wide arrayof programs and services and to continually be good stew-ards of this wonderful facility.

We are excited to offer the new “Meeting of Minds” program. It is off to a great start! For more informationplease call Kat at 737-2336 x24 or see page 17 and 28.

WHy SHouLD I Pre-regISTer? - Often, in thenewsletter, you will be asked to register at theReception Desk. It is important that you do so forseveral reasons.1. We sometimes cancel a class/trip due to low registration. If you are interested and do not signup, you might miss out on a class/trip that you areinterested in.2. If a class is cancelled and you are not registered,we can’t call you to notify you of the cancellation. Then you come to the Center and are disappointedthat you have made the trip for a cancelled class. 3. Instructors will often ask us for a number of registrations. This helps them to prepare for theclass and make the appropriate number of handouts.4. Room assignments might be able to be adjusted toaccommodate a smaller or larger group, but this toodepends on the number of registrations. ~Thank you!
