OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL DENVER, COLORADO Food For Faith Living from the desk of Fr. Mark

The church year ends on a high note as we celebrate the feast of Christ, the King of the Universe! Today, royalty and regal terms are out of date. They no longer are a source of being the ruling power in nations. The title still dignifies the meaning of true authority, but the life and death of Jesus clearly expressed His Kingship as One Who serves and saves. In fact, He made it crystal clear to all of us: “if we want to be in charge or control, we must be servants to others.” Daniel (1st reading) presents another “end time” scene depicting “a Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven and receives dominion, glory and kingship, His dominion is an everlasting dominion.” It is elsewhere, not here. The Book of Revelation (2nd reading) contains many symbolic images and descriptions of this time of eternal glory. In His resurrection from the dead, Jesus has “freed us from our sins and made us residents in His kingdom.” This is our hope and destiny when the end time come. “Behold, He is coming and every eye will see Him.” Jesus sums up creation and salvation with the awesome truth; “I am the Alpha and Omega (beginning and end), the One Who is and Who was and Who is to come the Almighty!” We needn’t spend time looking for His arrival, but we do need to live lives of faith, hope and love until it happens. The Gospel today recalls Jesus captured, tried and brought before Pontius Pilate for judgment. Pilate asks if He is a king. Jesus affirms He is and explains: “My kingdom does not belong to this world. For this I was born, coming into the world to testify to the truth!” The essence of faith, and living of faith, is brought to full light when Jesus proclaims to all of us: “Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to My voice!” Our daily simple and sincere prayer request should be: “Speak Lord, I’m listening.” It is our path through our earthly pilgrimage on the way to eternal glory!

THANKS-GIVING

PRAYER Oh, God, when I have food, Help me to remember the

hungry; When I have work, help me to

remember the jobless; When I have a warm home,

help me to remember the homeless;

When I am without pain, help me to remember those who

suffer; And remembering, help me to destroy my complacency and

bestir my compassion. Make me concerned enough to help, by word and deed, those who cry out for what we take

for granted. -Samuel F. Pugh

“For I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed Me….”
