Head of Academy Update
NOVEMBER 2018 NEWSLETTER ALL SAINTS MARSH C OF E
ACADEMY
Together we empower excellence
Dear Parents and Carers What a fabulous start to the half term we have had! The children have been busy learning in their classrooms and immersing themselves in their new topics. Bradley class have been learning all about the Great Fire of London and creating amazing home learning projects. Forde class have been listening to stories and acting them out on in their new theatre role play area and KS2 have all been deepening their understanding of world religions. Each classroom has a real buzz about it and the children are all so excited about their learning. With Christmas fast approaching there are lots of events and exciting things happening for the rest of the term. There is a list of dates at the end of this newsletter, please put these in your diary and keep an eye out for letters with more details on! In particular, we are looking forward to our joint Pantomime trip with Dunsford Academy on the 12th Decem-ber. Our amazing PTFA have funded the theatre tickets for this trip but please ensure that you pay for your child’s coach travel and send the permission form back to school asap. We are thrilled by the number of parents who are keen to come and have a look around All Saints Marsh with a view to applying for a Reception place in 2019. If you know anyone who is interested in one of these places, please ask them to phone the office and make an appointment with me to have a tour of the school and see our lovely children in action. Regards, Miss Garside

PE and Sport
We have had a really busy few weeks with our Tag Rugby, the children have really enjoyed taking part in the competitions and learning new skills. KS2 have enjoyed their time with Mrs Stanley from Spires and have been participating in tag rugby and hockey. KS1 have bee spending time with Mr Patchett, from Newton Abbot College and enjoying their indoor PE sessions. Premier Sport have been working on our ‘Well Being’ with KS2 every Friday and they will be doing the same with KS1 next term. Some of our KS2 children met Cricket super star Marcus Trescothick. At the REC just before half term. They asked him lots of questions and found out how you become an international sporting superstar!!
Collective Worship
Our new value, compassion, has been a great one to explore as it is part
of our six school values. In Family groups, we have looked at times when
Jesus showed compassion to the people around him. While examining
his actions and the impact they have on his followers, we thought of
ways that we could show compassion to the people around us. These
involve situations where we need to be kind when it matters the most,
especially when it is difficult to do so.

This month, Templar began their Judaism topic, which started off with each child carrying out personal research. This formed a class discussion point, where we explored meaning behind new words, while discussing the facts surrounding this world religion. In class, we will continue our learning by focusing on Jewish celebrations as we look at how they differ from Christianity and other religions that we have learnt.
Courtenay Class
Courtenay class learnt about the centenary of the WW1 Armistice and
designed some poignant artwork which they displayed at the church. They
found out about the significance of the poppy, and then created their piece
of artwork including a landscape with poppies. The Year 4 children also
spent time practising their readings for our church
remembrance service.

Forde Class
We have been so busy this term with our learning! We have started our new topic of ‘Tell me a Story’ and started to retell different stories! We even acted some stories out and dressed up! We have been also been creating our own story characters. We made some for our home learning. We have also been creating our own poppies for Remembrance day. We made sure we took our time and decorated them neatly.
Bradley Class
Bradley class absolutely love their new topic ‘The Great Fire of London’ and this love has been exemplified by their fantastic home-learning. Within class, we have spent time understanding the historic events of 2nd September 1666 and the children have been sequencing and retelling the events through role play and writing. We have also used the fire as inspiration for descriptive writing. The children have been thinking about adjectives to describe the colours, movements and sounds of fire and then used these to build and write a short descriptive paragraph.

New Church of England Academy for Paignton
You may have seen recently an article in the Herald Express regarding a proposal by the Learning Academy Partnership to open a brand new ‘Free School’ in Paignton at the site which was left derelict since the Element School (former Tower House site) closed in December 2017.
As part of the Trust we are thrilled to be able to advise all our parents that we have now received a provisional opening date for a brand new Church of England Academy and Nursery. The new academy will be called ‘St Michael's Church of England Academy. The site will undergo a multi million pound refurbishment and will open its doors to nursery and reception children in September 2020.
Mrs Atkinson, Chief Executive of our Trust has said ‘ I am delighted that we are going to have the opportunity to work with the community in Paignton to offer an exceptional education rooted in Church of England values. St Michael’s Church of England Academy will be part of the Learning Academy Partnership family of schools, benefiting from the resources and staff expertise from across the Trust and with the same high expectations that delivers excellent educational outcomes for all our children.’
