Objectives – Design & Concept Testing

Establish synergy for electronic communications across the mail supply chain for Industry and USPS

Evaluate, develop conceptual designs, and test business services in relation to the seamless acceptance vision strategies and goals

Specify business services to integrate Postal Service acceptance, payment, appointment, and drop shipment induction processes

Specific focus to support USPS DSMS/BMI pilot testing effort

4

Vision Alignment

Increase efficiencies and reduce costs through the mail supply chain by creating electronic interfaces with customers.

Promote high quality mail by adopting a simplified in-process verification approach that uses automated processes to analyze mail in-stream from induction to delivery.

Next Steps complete by March 2006

Determine if we have identified the essential business services to support a seamless induction process – Have we identified the essential business services to support: – the acceptance process– the product re-manufacturing processes– transportation logistic processes– product quality measurement– cross-functional data access and information

updating

Analyze DSMS/BMI pilot results to identify gaps and determine solutions

9

DSMS / BMI Pilot Status

Pilot Plan

– Establish electronic capabilities to process electronic 8125 information and validate shipment contents at destination facilities

– Pilot conducted in “live” production sites

– Engage customers using electronic capabilities (Mail.dat and web services)

10

E8125 Pilot Test: Summary

Pilot Objective – Phase One– Establish electronic processes between

systems– Track appointment information– Create electronic 8125 (not discount

validated)– Track Surface Visibility scan (BMI)

information– Report activities and identify gaps,

deficiencies

11

E8125 Pilot Test: Summary

Pilot Objective – Phase Two– Validate container discounts to mailing

information– Report entry / discount conflicts– Validate postage payment for containers

scheduled for entry (validate discounts claimed)

– Release e8125 information to destination entry point facilities (BMI)

– Receive shipment content scans and induction problem information

– Validate entry discounts or reported induction resolutions

– Collect mail preparation (eMIR) information

12

E8125 Pilot Test: Summary

Customer Role– Use bar-coded pallet placards– Submit electronic mailing information to

PostalOne! (Mail.dat)– Schedule appointments via web service to FAST

PostalOne! Role– Process data between customer and FAST– Create electronic 8125 information and transmit to

Surface Visibility– Receive Surface Visibility induction information

and post to web reports

Surface Visibility Role (Business Mail Induction application)– Validate appointment information in scan device– Scan containers offloaded at the USPS plant– Closeout appointment activity – Transmit information to PostalOne! system

13

E8125 Pilot Test: Summary

Pilot customers– Solicited up to 5 participants– 2 currently engaged, others to be added

USPS entry point facilities– Greensboro, NC P&DC– Greenville, SC P&DC– Greensboro, NC BMC – Near Future

Schedule– Pilot for release 10.0

» Start October 10, 2005» End November 18, 2005 – Will be extended

– Pilot for release 10.1» Start January 30, 2006» End March 16, 2006

14

E8125 Pilot Test: Phase I Status

Phase 1 pilot– Started October 10, 2005

– PostalOne! has generated e8125s for both Pilot Business Customers

– Data exchange successful with some issues being analyzed» As of October 25, 2005, 479 e8125s generated

successfully & 590 e8125s had processing errors that are being analyzed

» Total 5 e8125s have been generated for one of the Pilot Facilities (Greensboro P&DC) as of October 25

» No electronic Induction Closeouts have been performed by SV to date due to technical/resource issues

– Awaiting Surface Visibility to scan and send mail induction and closeout messages back to PostalOne!

– Planning on fixing some e8125 processing issues

15

E8125 Pilot Test: Expected Results

Phase I establishes the foundation for reconciliation and quality reporting – Establish communications protocols between

Mailers, USPS (PostalOne!, FAST, and SV) and resolve technical issues bugs during this process

– Validate BMI scanner functions supports the facility induction business process

– Validate the BMI application supports the induction problem identification, resolution, and reporting needs

– Facilitates development of robust reconciliation process for the next release and Phase II

16

E8125 Pilot Test: Phase Two

Release 10.1 (January)– Add functionality to facilitate automated payment

adjustments– Enhance reporting functionality

Phase Two Pilot– Validate ability to identify postage deficiencies– Validate business process for processing postage

adjustments– Validate and enhance conflict resolution process

by automating resolutions through Resolution and problem codes

– Validate Drop Ship File’s ZipCin data processing for Entry Point Discount Validations

– Validate automated eMIR processing for Quality improvement from DSMS/BMI Induction data

– Enhance messaging capabilities with External Customers
