Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

(Holy Day of Obligation)

The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary honors Mary and her bodily assumption into heaven.

This is a foretaste of our own bodily resurrection at the end of time. Because it signifies the Blessed Virgin’s passing into eternal life, it is the most important of all

Marian feasts and a holy day of obligation.

About the Blue Army Shrine in Washington, NJ

The chapel here is one of only two exact replicas of the chapel that was built in Fatima, Portugal at the site of Our Lady’s apparition. The heart of Our Lady of Fatima Retreat Center is the Holy House...an exact replica of the original Holy House, the home of the Holy Family is enshrined in Loreto, Italy. Stones from the actual Holy House in Italy were pulverized and added to the mortar used to construct the Holy House Chapel. The Chapel is the same size as the original Holy House and is similarly constructed. Sister Lucia’s Last Vision is replicated in the Holy House Chapel. A wood statue of St. Joseph, as he appeared at Fatima during the Miracle of the Sun, is also located here. The Rosary Garden is a unique setting which adds a new dimension to your prayer and meditation. There are also outdoor Stations of the Cross as well as a Saint Francis Shrine, with the animals and birds, a favorite spot for children and all young at heart. The Angel of Peace statue occupies a position near the entrance to the Holy House. The Angel of United States graces the reflecting pond on Marian Way. There is also a retreat center and gift shop. The facility draws upward of 50,000 visitors a year and is officially recognized by the Catholic Church.

Parent’s Prayer for Vocations Gracious and loving God you have blessed us with the privilege of becoming Parents. We ask that you provide us with all that we need in accepting this awesome responsibility. We pray that we will be open to your spirit who is our source of strength as we witness to our children your love for each of them and your desire for them to be happy and to live a full life. We ask your help so we may guide and encourage our children to believe that they each have a special calling and to use their gifts and talents for others. We pray, Heavenly Father, that our children will discover and respond enthusiastically to your desire for them whether it be to the vocation of single, married, ordained or consecrated life. We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus through the grace of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Closed Captioned Mass for Hearing Impaired

Are you deaf or hard of hearing? If so, we can’t imagine not hearing the message of God all for the lack of hearing. That is why we offer captioning services at our Saturday, 5:30 pm Mass. The baptismal side section has been designated as the area for this service. As the Mass is conducted the spoken word is displayed on a marquee placed in front of the pulpit. We invite you and your friends to come share the Word of God each week at our technologically advanced Mass.

First Friday Mass Holy Mass on Friday is devoted to the Sacred Heart and to the Precious Blood of Jesus. Due in part to the promise revealed by Christ to St. Margaret Mary, attending Mass on the First Friday of the month is popular among many Catholics, even if they are unable to attend daily mass regularly throughout the week. Join us for First Friday Mass at Sacred Heart at 7:30 pm.

Interesting Facts about the Catholic Church You Probably Didn’t Know

The ONLY Christian church in existence for the first 1,000 years of Christian history was the Roman Catholic Church. All other Christian churches which exist today can trace their lineage back to the Roman Catholic Church. Most non-Catholic churches which exist today are less than a century or two old by comparison. The Catholic Church consists of more than just the Roman Catholic Church. There are 22 Eastern Rites that are in full communion with Rome and although they go by different names, they are every bit as much a part of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is entirely responsible for the composition of the Bible, which books are included, as well as the breakup of the chapters and verses. Protestants have removed some books of the Bible because some of the verses were inconsistent with their theology. Martin Luther was a prime offender in this regard, removing Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach and Baruch. He also made an effort to remove James and Revelations, but this was rejected by his followers and those two books were kept. Catholics are often accused of "adding" the books, but despite this common belief, it is false. Older, pre-Protestant, Catholic translations of the Bible include them.

The Catholic Church spends more money than Apple brings in. Expenditures by the Catholic Church, largely on charity, exceeded $170 billion in 2012, according to The Economist magazine. In that same year, Apple took in $157 billion in revenue. The Pope is protected by the Swiss Papal Guard. Wearing uniforms designed by Michelangelo and commonly armed with halberds, they are capable of using heavier weapons if needed. Each member is Catholic, male, and Swiss, and must complete military training in Switzerland. They
