Chapter 1: WreakWoods

Great. I said under my breath. This iswhat? the fourth time this week Ivegotten in a fight with my dad and endedup here. I looked around. Everything about

Wreak Woods felt wrong, however, Id bewalking or driving with something like meand my dad fighting, to Failing myalgebra test and without paying attention,Id end up right here sitting on this fallen

tree.I reached up and grabbed a twig out of

my long dark hair. Im not the most

beautiful seventeen year-old girl inHarwood but Im decent. I have long darkbrown hair that lenghthens to just abovemy waist, and emerald green eyes. I havemedium tan skin, and Im about 5'6 andnot fat, but not too skinny either.

At that thought, I saw something moveout of the corner of my eye. I jumped offthe tree and spun around so fast I gotdizzy and almost fell over. As soon aseverything steadied I asked the open airWhos there? When nothing happened Iturned around to walk to my car and froze.

There, standing not 15 feet from me wasthe most beautiful animal I have everseen. The dog stood as high as my waist,if not higher. It had a thick coat of snowwhite fur, and its eyes I gasped so loudthe dog flinched. Its eyes were sobeautiful, sky blue so light it was almost ashade of white.

I was contemplating if I should walk upto it or turn and run. Then I had a thoughthere, puppy. I said in a cheerful voice. It

cocked its head at me as if my reactionwas a surprise to it. It turned its head tolook at the ground so I took a step

forward. It snapped its head up so fast itwas a blur and it growled a low rumblefrom the pit of its stomach forcing me toback up a few steps unconsciously. Thatfew steps made the growling stop and itlooked at my feet. I looked down thenback up slowly when my eyes reached itsface I giggled a little to see the wolfishgrin it put on.

I felt relived that I was right, and itwasnt a wild dog. I mean a wild dogs furwouldnt look so white and smooth; itwould be all dirty and matted. So I sat

down on the twigs and rocks beneath me.It was uncomfortable but Id stand upwhen the dog came closer. I reached outand whistled for it to come. It hesitatedthen approached slowly. The way it walkedwas completely man like so I assumed itwas a guy. I was almost touching himwhen a wolf howled. The beautiful dog infront of me looked towards the sound thenback at me with a sad face. Before I knewwhat was happening he was running

towards where the howl came from.

Chapter 2: TheAccident

When I walked through the front door, Ifound my dad sitting on the sofa with hishead in his hands. I closed the front doorand he looked up at me with red rimmedeyes. It was silent for a moment but he

broke it by saying,Hey, Zianna? I justwant you to know that I didnt mean tosnap like that Ive just had to deal with alot this past year and having you back justgives me someone to be mad at. That

said night, dad. And stocked off towardsmy room.

When I walked through the door to my

room, I headed straight to my closet for apair of sweats an old T-shirt, a pair ofunderwear and a sports bra. With theclothes I headed toward the bathroom. Iturned the water on hot and went to thehall closet for a towel. When I got back tothe bathroom the mirror was alreadyfilmed over with steam so I put the towelover my clean clothes and got in the hotwater of the shower.

When I stepped out and wrapped mytowel around me I reached up and wipedthe steam off the mirror with my hand that

wasnt holding the towel up and looked atmyself. My eyes automatically focused onmy birthmark. It was on the hollow rightunderneath my ear, a spiral with two linesthrough the middle, but it looked more likea scar than a birthmark to me. I sighed,brushed the hair out of my eyes, yawned,and then went to my room.

It was 11:30 p.m. when I finally startedto doze off. Usually when I dream, itsabout something Ive seen happen to

someone, only where it happens to me.Only when I started dreaming, it wasntfamiliar at all. I was in a car. I was in my

mothers car.

Chapter 3:Nightmare

I know I am dreaming and I cant

handle seeing this, but when I tried towake myself up, I couldnt.Then I heard him. Mom, I hate this

song. Can I change it? it was my Nicky!My baby brother, Nick Joseph Anthony.

Then came my mothers voice, only I camefrom my mouth Sure, honey then I saw

him. I wanted to cry. He was dancing inthe passengers seat. Maybe you coulddo dance when the new school yearcom-everything after that happened sofast that I barely noticed that some idiot

ran through the traffic.First we-we being me and my mom-

heard the screeching of the car tires in

front of us. We slammed our foot on thebrakes but that only slowed us. We jerkedthe steering wheel to the right trying notto hit the car in front of us, but instead wewent through the railing on the bridge andluckily got stuck on one of the pillars. Thenit was black.

I dont know how long we were out butwhen we woke up we were falling.We hit the water hard and three windowsand the windshield shattered. Water camerushing in and we looked at the seat nextto us. Nick!? it came out raspy but

managed the next words before we wereovercome by water. Where are you!? hewasnt there. Then we had hope. Maybehe got out. Maybe hes okay.

There was no air left. We held ourbreath as long as we could. When wecouldnt any more we were gasping for airwe knew we werent going to get. Waterbegan rushing to our lungs. As the edgesof the dream started to fade black, welooked up towards the back of the car.

There he was, the gorgeous blue eyesstaring back at us and the snow white furblowing in the wind. Then, I woke up.

Sitting straight up in my bed I beganballing. I had a million questions goingthrough my head, like; where was mybrother? The police said they drownmeaning both my mom and Nicky. Maybehe got away, but if he did why hadnt hecome home? NO! I cant get my hopes up.What if someone took him? What if they

just took him to hurt him? My head wasstarting to pound, I need to stop cryingand get ready for school. I got out of bedand went to get my clothes.

As I was putting on my sweater, a

picture of the beautiful dog went throughmy mind. Why cant I just forget him? Whydo I have this feeling hes important?

Just then my stomach growled. ugh. Isaid to myself. I didnt realize how hungry Iwas. I went to the kitchen to find a notefrom dad that said:

Hey, Zianna. Im gonna be working late

tonight. I put leftover lasagna in the fridge,

and theres also snacks and stuff around the

kitchen. You can have friends over tonight so

youre not alone. I have my cell phone for

emergencies

Love,DadI sighed. Yea my dad doesnt have to

worry about me throwing a wild party. Ionly have a total of three good friendsanyway. Emmery Anne, Stevie Rae, KyleMasen. I grabbed my bagel from the

toaster, and headed to the door.

Chapter 4:Regret

I opened the front door to walk to mycar, and something hit me square in thechest. It sent me flying backwards, andwhen I opened my eyes everything was

blurry. I sat up and saw what hit me, afootball sitting by the front door, and herehe comes. Theo, what the hell! I said inan angry voice. Oh god, Zee are youokay? Theo said while trying to stoplaughing. Yeah, no thanks to you. Just tell

the room to stop spinning.I know I said I only had three friendsbut Theo wasnt a friend. He was anuisance. Oh and also an ex (my only ex).We have been neighbors since I was three.

We started dating when I was sixteen.It lasted almost the entire time I stayedwith uncle mike, but we broke up because

out as a growl. He noticed too becauseright after I said it he let go of my hand,and I fell right on my rear endagain.Yeah, I guess I dont. See you at schoolZee. He seemed a little sad, but I didntcare. I was more than a little sad when Ifound him giving a hickey to another girl.Yeah. Whatever. I snapped. I got up andwalked to my car.

When I got to school my three friendwere waiting by the front office for me.

Emmery was wearing a blue jean miniskirt and a white tank top with red flipflops. Her black hair was pulled in to a

ponytail on top of her head. Stevie Raewas wearing a white shirt with blue lettersthat read HOLLISTER a red jacket, blue

jean mini shorts and black high topConverse. Her auburn hair was Frenchbraided down the back of her head. Kylewas wearing a tight light pink shirt andskinny jeans and low rim Converse. Hislong blond hair rested on his shoulders.Which makes since because hes literallygay. As I walked up I said Hey guy whatsup. Just as I finished my sentence, theoffice door swung open and a guy that I

havent seen around before came out.Hes about 63 and wore vans with a pairof skinny jeans and a green shirt not totight but tight enough to show hismuscles. He had light brown hair thatwent to his chin. He had a light tan. Helooked at me and I froze. Those eyes.Where have I seen them?

Chapter 5:Familiar

StrangerMy lungs felt like they were falling off

and I felt dizzy. I let out a breath I hadntrealized I was holding. Im guessing he

noticed my dilemma because he turnedand headed my way. When he reachedme, he smiled a familiar smile and saidDo you know a-he paused and lookedand a ripped piece of paper-RebeckaAnthony? The lady at the front desk toldme to find her. It took me a few secondsto answer but finally I said simply Yes,thats me. Im Rebecka Anthony, and youare? Im Dylan Thompson. Do you mindshowing me to my classes? I dont know

jaws touching the ground (Metaphoricallyof course). Before I said anything KylesaidDamn that boy is one fine piece ofmeat! Right then Emmery and Stevie Rae

said at the same time Uh-Huh! Thenthey all started laughing. I felt the bloodrush to my cheeks. Hey, do you guysmind if I just meet up with you at lunchtoday? That piece of meats name isDylan and he needs someone to show himaround campus. I barely finished mysentence when all three of them said atthe same time OKAY! and ran away fromme.

I hesitated, I didntknow how to put it so I just blurted outOn a stray dog that I saw in the WreakWoods, and I know that sounds bad but itisnt. he laughed once without humor,and then said Should I take that as acomplement? Yes you definitely should.If you saw the dog you would know why.He had put on a grin and said Is that so?

I smiled and blushed at the way he said itand looked away. Then I noticed twothings: One, I was in his arms and pressed

against his chest still. Two everyone wasgone except me and Dylan. As I lookedback at him I guess he realized the samething because, he shot up and pulled mewith him.

Chapter 6: TheLoss

I had no idea where we were going so I

asked What happened to me showing youwhere youre classes are? He laughedand said Its a little late for that dont youthink? I felt the blood rush to my cheeksso I looked away. He noticed and said Soyouve never skipped class before, haveyou? We were still walking but I didnt

pay much attention to where we weregoing, I just looked at him and said No,but you really shouldnt skip on your firstday, it gives you a bad reputation. I saidin a matter-of-factvoice. I think I canmanage. He replied with a gorgeous

smile. So what brought you to Harwood?I asked. His face fell and he answered in asad voice Um, my dad just past away andmy mom wanted to get away from allmemories so we moved here. Why did

you move here out of all the places in theworld to move? Well like I said my momwants to get away from every memory so

we moved here. Its completely differentthan New York here so it helps a lot.

We walked and talked for hours andneither of us kept track of time. It startedto get dark outside so Dylan walked mehome. When we got to the door I askedhim Can you stay with me until my dadgets home? I pleaded Um, sure. Can Iuse your phone? I smiled and repliedYeah.

We talked for a long time, to where weknew almost everything about each other.I found out that his dad died in a robbery

in New York, he was a banker and whenthe robbers broke in they shot him. By thetime the doctors got to him he lost toomuch blood and died. The subject hurt himto talk about so I changed it and learnedhis favorite color which is blue, how old heis which is eighteen.

After a while we got hungry so Iordered pizza. Fifteen minutes before thepizza was supposed to be here the doorbell rang That was fast. I said surprised.

Confessions

Theo was there, he looked bewildered;his hands in fist, he was shaking, and histeeth were clenched. When he looked up

and met my confused gaze, I looked awayto see Dylan standing next to me. Helooked ferocious; his hands were balledup, he was gritting his teeth, and he wasshaking like a mad man(and thats anunderstatement). "Do you know each

other? Whats wrong with you two? Theowas the one who answered me "Can totalk to you its urgent. He looked andsounded like he was pleading. Um, yeahhold on. I turned to Dylan and asked Heydo you mind if I talk to Theo for a seco-"Yeah, whatever. He snapped. Theo

grabbed my hand and pulled me out of thehouse.

I pulled my hand away and closed thedoor to give us some privacy. What doyou want Theo? I asked sourly.
