Foreword This Standard is the English version (issued in 01/2011) of PETROBRAS N-2546 REV. B 01/2011. In case of doubt, the Portuguese version, which is the valid document for all intents and purposes, shall be used. 1 Scope 1.1 This Standard establishes the criteria for the use of fire type tested ball valves at PETROBRAS. 1.2 This Standard is applied to onshore and offshore processing and production units as well as to pressurized Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage tank areas. 1.3 This Standard is applied to designs started as of its date of issuance. In existing facilities, it will be up to the department that uses this Standard to decide on whether to apply it wholly or in part. 1.4 This Standard is not applied to:

a) ships; b) refrigerated LPG storage tank areas; c) underground facilities; d) oil and gas pipelines; e) systems only containing class 6, subclass 6.1 products (toxic substances) according to

ABNT NBR 7500 and which may be occasionally released due to a fire in their vicinity. 1.5 The application of this Standard in the case of companies of the PETROBRAS System headquartered abroad shall be based on respect for local legislation, as well as for the other applicable requirements. It shall be understood that all other existing Brazilian legislation or references pointed out in this Standard may serve as input to its adaptation process. 1.6 This Standard only contains Technical Requirements. 2 Normative References The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies..

PETROBRAS N-1645 - Safety Criteria to Project of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Storage Fixed Facilities; PETROBRAS N-1674 - Projeto de Arranjo de Instalações Industriais Terrestres de Petróleo, Derivados, Gás Natural e Álcool; ABNT NBR 7500 - Identificação para o Transporte Terrestre, Manuseio, Movimentação e Armazenamento de Produtos; ABNT NBR 15827 - Válvulas Industriais para Instalações de Exploração, Produção, Refino e Transporte de Produtos de Petróleo - Requisitos de Projeto e Ensaio de Protótipo; ISO 10497 - Testing of Valves - Fire Type-Testing Requirements.

NOTE For documents referred in this Standard and for which only the Portuguese version is

available, the PETROBRAS department that uses this Standard should be consulted for any information required for the specific application.

5.3 Onshore Processing Unit 5.3.1 The fire tested type ball valves shall be installed in vessels that process/store pressurized liquefied flammable gases. 5.3.2 In the vessels referred to in 5.3.1 shall be fire tested type ball valves the first block valve from the shell in piping or accessories connected to the vessel at a level below the maximum level expected from the liquid phase of the pressurized liquefied flammable gas. 5.3.3 In certain situations such as, for instance, a low inventory of the liquefied fraction contained in the vessel and then there is reduced risk to neighboring facilities, the use of fire tested type ball valves may be dispensed with previously conducting risk assessment studies. 5.3.4 Block valves located within the battery limits in piping systems transferring pressurized liquefied flammable gases shall be fire tested type ball valves.
