Newsletter Mullaloo Beach Primary School Dear Parents & Carers, Open Night Many thanks to all the families who came along to our Open Night last week. We had a participation rate of around 90% of families in attendance which was amazing. Having such a highly involved community helps create a very positive learning environment where children are reminded how important their education is to all of us. The classrooms looked terrific and as usual our Library was a hive of activity with book sales. Huge thanks must go to the dedicated staff at MBPS for all their efforts in the lead up to this event and to the students who displayed their work with justifiable pride. The School Board Open Meeting This year’s Open Board Meeting was held on Wednesday night. A huge thank you goes to those parents who attended and shared their thoughts on our school. Those present were asked to comment on the school under five broad headings: - Quality Teaching, Learning Environment, Leadership, Relationships and Resources. They were asked to comment on what is working well in the school, and their thoughts on what would make our school even better. All comments will be looked at by the School Board and school staff to help us in refining out strategic direction into the future. State Cross-Country Last Friday, a number of our Year 4-6 students took part in the State Cross-Country Championships at Perry Lakes. The distances that the students run in this event are considerably longer those of our faction and interschool runs and so it was a credit to those students who trained themselves to run the extra distance. It should be noted that every MBPS student completed the course. With between 200-400 students in each event, the races were action packed. We congratulate our entire team and make special note of Lachie (Year 6) and Will (Year 5) who both finished in the top 20. Lunchtime today – Room 8 and 9 Why are there 40 children in this classroom, heads down, working hard at lunchtime? Punishment?? No… these children all came of their own free will! They have been studying hard at home and are now trying to achieve their Blue Times-Tables Badge. Once they have achieved the requirements for this badge, they will be eligible to try out for their Bronze Badge. It is fantastic to see these students so self-motivated to improve their tables. Congratulation to those who were successful today. If not, don’t be disheartened. Keep working hard and try again next time. If you haven’t started going for badges yet, it’s not too late. Start brushing up your tables today!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FOLLOWING STUDENTS WHO WERE AWARDED A

MERIT AWARD AT OUR LAST ASSEMBLY HELD ON FRIDAY 9TH AUGUST 2019.

ALL ABOUT ME - Ann Fielden, Associate Principal

Ann was born on a small island called the Isle of Man, which is between England and Ireland. She has lived in Australia since she was three years old. Ann’s first car was an old beat up, dirty brown/green Fiat, with brakes that only worked on the flat… not going down hills!!!!!!!!!! Ann traded her car in on a Torana GTR XU1 which was iridescent purple with a spoiler on the back. Ann loved that car and wish she had kept it! Ann loves travelling, there’s so much to see and learn. Ann has travelled to many countries including Canada, Cambodia, South Korea, Malaysia, England, Scotland, Hong Kong, Singapore…. and lots of places in Australia. Ann loves working at Mullaloo Beach PS, ‘What’s not to love about being here?’ she loves the setting, great community and well behaved, kind and thoughtful students who have beautiful manners. Being here is fantastic and she looks forward to coming to work. The most important thing in Ann’s life is her family. Sharing lots of good times and seeing smiles and hearing laughter is the best thing ever. Ann’s Grandbabies have added a dimension that she didn’t know existed and they have made her life even better.

Nitrogen is one of the gases which make up the air we breathe.

Liquid nitrogen doesn’t naturally occur on Earth it exists as a gas. Liquid nitrogen

has to be kept at a temperature of - 210⁰c to be a liquid – that is very, very, very

cold! Liquid nitrogen boils at a temperature of - 196⁰c. Remember, water boils at

100⁰c!

OUR SUSTAINABILITY AND

WASTEWISE NEWS

A big thank you goes out to the families who are supporting our Nude Food Tuesday initiative by ensuring lunch boxes are waste free. Also, our battery recycling bin is filling up nicely - these batteries will be collected by the Mindarie Regional Council and sent to South Korea for recycling. The sustainability committee has been very busy planning new vegetable garden beds for our school. We have decided to install six new wicking garden beds using recycled ibcs (intermediate bulk containers). The plan is to place four of these outside the music room and the other two on the grass between B Block and the junior playground. Here's an example of a wicking garden bed made from an ibc outside Duncraig Library. If you'd like to be involved, we'll need your help to install these at the busy bee on a Saturday towards the end of this term; the date still needs to be confirmed but rest assured it won't be on Grand Final day! We will be asking for help with materials, power tools and volunteers to pick up mulch in trailers - stay tuned. A big thank you goes to our parent representatives on the committee Christine Murray, Kate Pinnuck-Lee, Sheree Yorke and Chelsea Zivkovic. We appreciate your research, input and help with sourcing materials. Thank you
