Both universities have agreed to undertake joint research activities and publications, participation in seminars and academic meetings, exchange of academic material, other information and special short- term academic programmes. The Agreement was signed by Prof. Chuan Yi Tang, President, Providence University, Taiwan and Vice-Chancellor Prof. H B Raghavendra. This partnership provides NCU with extensive research opportunities. DIL organized a special talk on ‘Ethical Issues in Conduct of Research Rand Development’ for NCU faculty and PhD students on 24 Oct 2018. The talk was delivered by Padma Shri Prof K L Chopra, Honorary Distinguished Research Professor, NCU, Former Director, IIT Kharagpur, Former Professor & Dean, IITD and President, Society for Scientific Values. The session highlighted the unethical activities involved in different areas of research and how it has become a global concern in the academic institutions including IITs, central, state and private academic organizations. He apprised faculty and students that self-plagiarism is also considered as unethical in the field of research. He strongly discouraged publishing articles in the so called Special Lecture by Padma Shri Prof. K L Chopra ‘predatory paid journals’ with ISBN authorized by UGC. He further discussed how ethical issues are involved in IPR matters where even patents are plagiarized. He concluded the session by emphasizing that ethical values should be nurtured among faculty and students in academic institutions and a proper mechanism may be adopted in the universities to look after such issues. The talk was coordinated by Dr Bharti Arora, Dy Dean- RDIL. he NorthCap University celebrated its Annual Techno-Cultural festival T‘Momentum 2018’ from 24-26 Oct 2018, which saw a plethora of cultural events providing students a platform to showcase their talent. During the inaugural ceremony the audience was treated to music presented by NCU’s Music Society ‘Encore’ and a play titled ‘Saleem-Anarkali’ which gathered a round of applause from everyone. The technical events included Tricky Circuit, Crossword IQ, Code it up, Quiz-o- mania etc. Onstage events included X-Fame judged by Bharat Sharma (X-Factor 9 contestant), Muscle Fit sponsored by Gold’s Gym, fashion shows sponsored by Pantaloons and Magnolia Salon, sports events sponsored by Decathlon and offstage events like gaming, coding competitions etc. There was keen competition to win the coveted titles of Mr Momentum which was eventually won by Shivam and Ms Momentum by Parul. Students from DU, IP College, Manav Rachna, Amity Manesar etc. also contested various inter-university onstage and sports events. The Electronic Dance Music night by VH1 Supersonic featured DJ Ray had the attendees grooving to the refreshing music and tunes of the artist. Momentum 2018

The NorthCap University (NCU), Gurugram, signed a Partnership Agreement with

Providence University, Taiwan on 23 October 2018. Both universities have agreed to undertake joint research activit ies and publications, participation in seminars and academic meetings, exchange of academic material, other information and special short-term academic programmes.

Career Counselling q A career counselling session was conducted at Jiva Public School,

Faridabad, for students of classes XI and XII on 6 Oct 2018. Around 100 students from Science, Commerce and Humanities background attended the session which was conducted by NCU’s team comprising of Dr Pramod Bhatia, Dept of ME; Ms Jyotika Pruthi, Dept of CSE⁢ Dr Praveen Lohchab, School of Law; Dr Preeti, School of Management and Mr Akhilesh (technical support). The students, Director and Principal of the school found the session valuable and as a token of appreciation the school gifted Jiva herbal products to the NCU team. Students of the school are looking forward to another visit by the NCU team to their campus soon. The session was coordinated by Dr Kalika Srivastava and Ms Kiran Mrig.

The performance by the renowned Parashar Band and Antriksh Band on the Coke Studio Night gave the touch of Bollywood music. The Star Night of Momentum witnessed the artist ‘GURI’ which set everyone dancing to his scintillating performance. Chief faculty coordinator of Momentum 2018 was Mr Shubham Bansal, Dept of CEE.

Science Exhibition

To spread the message of the importance of science and its applications among school students, the Department of Applied Sciences, organized a

Science Exhibition on 10 Oct 2018 at the University. About 70 students of classes XI and XII from various schools in Gurugram such as Presidium, DAV Public School, Lions Public School, SDMS and GSS School demonstrated their innovative ideas in the form of science projects, models and posters on topics such as Electrostatic Precipitator, Optimization Traffic Parking, Hoverboard etc. The students were given hands-on experience in the Science & Engineering labs and workshops were organized on 3D printing, IoT, Advanced Scientific Instruments, Laser Diffraction and LED for them.

NCU participates in GEF 2018he Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) organized ‘GEF 2018’ (Globalized TEducation Forum) on 29 Sept 2018 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi,

wherein several universities under AICTE and UGC participated. The aim of GEF 2018 was to practice and highlight Globalized Higher Education - Higher Education with Internationalization and its value addition to create future ready Human Resource. This forum initiated sharing of best practices towards directional guidance to a global future. The forum included several panel discussions by VC’s, Deans, Directors, Founders etc. of various universities like Amity University, Shiv Nadar University, Bennett University, Ashoka University, Ambedkar University, IIT Delhi, JNU, Lady Shri Ram College, OP Jindal School, AIU, AICTE etc. Panellists shared views regarding Globalized Higher Education like revision of course curriculum to match with international standards, project based learning, faculty training/development programmes in industries to upskill and to impart the latest trends to students, more industry collaborations, regulations to reduce the gap between demand by industries and supply of graduates, focus on areas to improve skills of students as per industry demands etc. The forum was very helpful in understanding the probable reason for low placements and how this could be improved in future for the overall progress of the nation. The forum was attended by Dr Anjali Garg (EECE), Dr Rohit Singh Lather (ME), Dr Shilpa Sindhu (SOM) and Ms Jyotika Pruthi (CSE).

On this occasion the UG students of the University also displayed a total of 60 exhibits showcasing their scientific skills and creative thinking through self-designed working models and projects, which included Electromagnetic Train, Electronic Voting Machine, Smart City, Hologram etc.

Winners of various events were encouraged by awarding prizes and certificates. The event aimed at promoting scientific temperament among students and motivating school children towards taking up science in their higher studies and contributing to the National Mission. (APS2018O035)

q NCU participated in the Career Conclave at Cambridge Foundation School, Rajouri Garden, New Delhi on 13 Oct 2018. A team comprising of Dr Pramod Bhatia, Dept of ME; Dr Rita Chhikara, Dept of CSE⁢ Dr Praveen Lohchab, SOL; Dr Preeti, School of Management and Mr Akhilesh (technical support) interacted and provided career counselling to more than 70 students and parents of classes IX to XII.

Guest Lectures

q Mr Amit Poddar, Chief Knowledge Expert, Triumphant Institute of Management Education (T.I.M.E), delivered a talk on 'What to do After BTech?' to 3rd Year ECE students on 11 Oct 2018. He talked about various national and international career opportunities after doing BTech and in the interactive session students clarified their doubts. Mr Amit is a professional career counsellor and has motivated and counselled students in colleges like NSIT, DTU, SRCC, St Stephen's College, LSR. (ECE2018G014)

NSS NCU organized a Cleanliness Drive on 1 Oct 2018 at Shahid Bharat Singh School, Gurugram. The aim was to clean the surroundings of SBY School by involving the students of the school and to make them aware about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene.

Volunteers conducted a rally to create awareness about the importance of cleanliness near the school premises through display of posters, street plays, songs and dance performances. Focus was on the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan launched by the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi on 2 Oct 2014. Students and volunteers actively participated in the cleanliness drive and enjoyed contributing towards society in their own small way.

The team met the Principal, Ms Anita Soori, and were assured that a dedicated career counselling session by NCU for class XII students would soon be organized at the school. Some of the students of classes IX and X also showed interest in visiting the University campus to gain more insight on topics like Automobile Engineering, Robotics etc.

The PhD viva-voce of Ms Arpita Nagpal, PhD scholar, Dept of CSE&IT, on the topic 'The Approach Towards Feature Selection for High Dimensional Data' was held on 8 Oct 2018. She completed her PhD under guidance of Dr Vijendra Singh, Associate Professor, Dept of CSE&IT.

‘What to do After BTech'

q Alumnus Mr Shankar Arora (MTech, Class of 2012), R&D Engineer, Logic Fruit Technologies, Gurugram, delivered a lecture on CMOS Technology to 2nd year students studying digital electronics, under context learning, on 4 Oct 2018. As an NCU MTech intern he has worked at CoVerify Systems Technologies. He talked about CMOS design concepts and implementation of various gates and digital circuits using CMOS, which are a part of the curriculum. (ECE2018G015)

q The Department organized an expert talk on the topic 'Communication Networks Evolution and the Road to 5G' by Mr Rahul Sathe, Ericsson Global India Pvt Ltd, Gurugram, for BTech ECE, 5th & 7th Sem students on 3 Oct 2018 . Mr Sathe spoke about 5G deployment and why there is a necessity to move to this generation when we are already using the previous generations. Mr Rahul discussed the challenges of 5G and the applications that are based on Massive IoT, Critical IoT, Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), and Fiber to Home Networks (FTTH) technologies which are further connected to Cloud and distributed over the channel. These generations are used to enhance the capabilities and improved speeds and the capacities with ultra-low latency in communications. He gave a brief idea how this data and voice works in tangible industrial environments. The talk facilitated students to deal with their subject curriculum and helped them to differentiate among the various generations which are being deployed in India. 60 students attended the session and learned the real world scenario in 5G. Dept of EECE organized a hands-on workshop under context learning for students of BTech ECE, 7th Sem, studying the subject 'Internet of Things' on 4 Oct 2018. Mr Sidharth Bhatia was invited to conduct the workshop on the topic 'Interfacing of Wi-Fi modules for IoT applications.' Mr Sidharth Bhatia is Chief Technology Off icer a t Orangewood Labs, and is also the founder member of the company Circular Blue. q The Department organized a lecture for 3rd Year students by Mr Anil Bahl, Practice Head, IT Service Management Group, Tech Mahindra Ltd, on ‘Software Quality Assurance’ on 17 Oct 2018. Students learnt about managing software projects and their quality perspectives. (CSEG2018011)

q Mr Gaurav, Network Engineer from a reputed organization, delivered a lecture on ‘Access Control List and SDWAN’ and discussed careers in Networking with 3rd Year students on 9 Oct 2018. He highlighted and explained the benefits of CCNA certification along with the latest technologies and on-going research areas of Computer Network. ‘Trans-X’, a project to automate the process of Academic Transcript generation for students who request for the same was developed and successfully deployed by Deepanshu Jain, Kartavya Atri and Harshit Wadhwa, BTech (CSE) 3rd Year students mentored by Dr Shilpa Mahajan. Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering

Dept of CEE organized a seminar on ‘Civil Engineering as a Profession: Present Perspective & Future Trends’ for parents and students on 29 Sept 2018. It aimed at creating awareness about various career options available in Civil Engineering. Distinguished alumni were invited to give motivational talks to encourage students and parents to understand the current trends in Civil Engineering. It was an opportunity for the parents to connect with the Department and interact with the faculty. The seminar was followed by a Technical Poster Presentation competition by BTech Final-year CEE students who also displayed their innovative projects. [CEE2018O015]

P Surya Prakash, an eminent engineer and consultant who has made significant contribution to Civil Engineering in India, for BTech CEE students on 12 Oct 2018. Department of Applied SciencesGuest Lecture

A lecture on ‘Data Analysis’ was delivered by Ms Nishtha Madaan, Senior Research Software Engineer, IBM India Research Lab, to BTech 3rd & 4th Year, BSc Maths (H) and MSc Maths students on 4 Oct 2018. She explained Data analysis concepts like pre-processing on Excel files, identifying outliers using scatter plot and histograms. Ms Madaan highlighted feature selection methods and briefed about classification techniques used in Machine Learning (ML). She shared her experience of working on projects on ML and motivated students to use Watson API’s for their project work. The lecture was coordinated by Dr Anshu Malhotra and Ms Shilpa Jain. A workshop on ‘MATHLAB’ for Engineering Mathematics I course was organized for faculty members of the Department which was conducted by Dr Seema Thakran and Dr Anshu Malhotra on 16 Oct 2018. The objective of the workshop was to provide a broad overview of the basic concepts and practicals related to Engineering Mathematics I course such as how to enter matrix, algebra of matrices, determinant, inverse, double integration, area and plotting of curves (2D, 3D) etc. Participants received hands-on training on practicals of MATHLAB. q Faculty Mentor, Prof. Kehar Singh, Hony Distinguished Research Professor, visited the Department of APS to guide PhD research scholars and members of the faculty of the Depts of APS, CSE and ECE on 29 Sept 2018. Prof. Singh motivated them for research and about good publications in reputed journals. He discussed their research work and also topics on optical image processing and other emerging areas. He suggested simulation work l ike recording and reconstruction of holograms in the Holography Lab. (APS2018O033)

q Faculty Mentor, Padma Shri Prof. KL Chopra, visited the Department of APS to guide PhD research scholars and faculty members on 25 Sept 2018. Faculty members and research scholars of the Department interacted about their current research work. Prof. Chopra motivated them for research on topics like super capacitors, fly ash etc. He also encouraged mentees to write project proposals and submit to various funding agencies. (APS2018O036)

Students of BSc Physics (H) accompanied by Dr Sunita Sharma and Dr Pranati Purohit visited the National Physical Laboratory, Delhi on 28 Sept 2018. Students interacted with scientists and visited Pulsed Laser Deposition, Nanostructure and Biomass Fuel laboratories. Students were able to correlate theory with their technological applications. They witnessed the deposition of thin film using latest technology i.e. Molecular beam epitaxy and detection of percentage of elemental composition of waste of flyash. Department of Mechanical EngineeringWorkshop

A workshop on 'Hands-on AutoCAD-3D' was conducted by CADD Centre, Gurugram, on 12 Oct 2018 for 2nd Year ME students. They got hands-on experience on the software which was followed by a quiz. The students who cleared the test were also motivated to participate in a national level competition which will be conducted by CADD Centre. A seminar on Advanced Manufacturing Tools used in industries was conducted by GROZ Industries for BTech students on 26 Sept 2018. Starting a career in the field of tools from which other mechanical units are governed, was emphasized. Students were briefed about various mechanisms and developments in the tools industry and how GROZ is playing a challenging role in the development of tools. There were practical demonstrations and hands-on training on latest tools and equipment like Industrial Equipment, Fluid Handling

the challenges in the Civil Engineering profession and shared various career options available to Civil Engineering graduates. He extended his guidance to the students for internship and project work.

Industrial Visit cum Contextual Learning

q In order to enhance practical skills and employability of students with a focus on contextual learning, the Dept of ME organized an industrial visit to Maruti Suzuki, NEXA Workshop, Gurugram, for BTech, 3rd Year students (18) on 4 Oct 2018.

The visit focused on 'Advance Repairing Techniques' which was conducted by NEXA Workshop which has world class infrastructure with state-of-the-art technologies, sub-workshops, equipment, training kits, hardware and software. Students got an insight into automobile parts, their working and advance tools for repairing components. Detailed working of advanced equipment for repairing and diagnostic devices was demonstrated. Students also visited various workshops like Engine Overhaul Section, Maintenance unit, Automated Washing Unit etc. (MED2018V010).

q The Department organized contextual learning lectures for Quality Engineering and Reliability Engineering course from 27 Sept to 5 Oct 2018. The contextual learning was based on the topics viz., Six Sigma and Quality Control tools, and Case Studies were explained by the Six Sigma experts Mr Chirag from Synergy School of Business Skills and Mr Pranjal Saxena, Quality Control, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. A Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification exam was also conducted by Six Sigma Institute

and students cleared the course and achieved the six sigma yellow belt professional's certificate. The session was coordinated by Mr Anmol Bhatia, Assistant Professor.(MED2018O019)

BTech, 3rd Year students attended a one day workshop on 'Automation Technologies' at Bosch-Rexroth Centre of Competence (CoC), AKGEC Skills Foundation, Ghaziabad, on 4 Oct 2018. The workshop was conducted by certified and experienced professionals of the Skill Development Centre approved by NSDC, GOI.

The Centre had world class infrastructure with state-of-the-art technologies, equipment, training kits, hardware, software and teaching aids from BOSCH-Rexroth, Germany, and has six laboratories at par with international standards on Industrial Hydraulics, Industrial Pneumatics, Sensorics, PLCs, Drives & Control and Mechatronics. This workshop helped students get an insight into these fields. They learned about Pneumatic-Hydraulics, PLCs and had hands-on experience related to PLCs, Industrial Pneumatic, Hydraulics Automation and practical experiments of such equipment used in industry. The event was coordinated by Dr Akanksha Mathur and Dr Manoj Kumar Gopaliya. (MED2018O021).

Faculty Activity

Dr Satnam Singh and Mr Praveen Singh. visited the JBM Group, Gurugram; to obta in the feedback of industrial internship of final-year student. The mentor reported good progress of the cand ida te and o f f e red internship to NCU students in future also. Based on the performance of the student, some live industrial projects will be shared which will strengthen industrial-academia relations. (MED2018V011)

Centre for Languages LearningDr Divyabha was invited by Hitachi Chemical India Pvt Ltd to give a talk on ‘Positive Body Language’ to their Managers on 13 Oct 2018. Hitachi Ltd is a more than 100 year old Japanese company and has been contributing to the creation of ideal energy management in all areas of energy creation, energy saving and energy storage. The session was attended by the top officials of Hitachi Chemicals including Japanese Management and the talk was appreciated by the participants. (CLL2018O010)

q Continuing SOM’s strong focus on facilitating industry interface, 17 BBA students accompanied by Dr Ruchi Nayyar and Dr Priyanka Banerji visited Coca Cola (Baddi, HP) and Hindustan Unilever Ltd (Baroti Wala, HP) on 12 Oct 2018 and interacted with the operation team of Coca–Cola and HUL. Students toured the plants and observed various processes such as production, packaging, machine efficiency monitoring and quality control. They got an opportunity to understand the practical working environment including safety, purification, bottle washing and quality assurance at the mega bottling plant of Coca-Cola and state-of-the-art facility of HUL manufacturing unit that specifically manufactures LUX, Dove and Lifebuoy soaps. The students appreciated the practical aspects of management principles in industry, operations management and lean production techniques deployed at both the sites. Opportunities for future industry visits and internships for NCU students were also explored. (SOM2018V001)

Industrial Visit

q ·An industrial visit for BBA 3rd Year students was organized to National Small Industries Corporation, New Delhi, on 12 Oct 2018. The aim of the visit was to create awareness about how to set up a new enterprise after graduation instead of just searching for jobs. This visit familiarized students about the role and importance of Medium and Small Scale Industries in the Indian economy, process of setting up an enterprise, preparing project reports and identifying marketing possibilities. Dr Sushmita Biswal Waraich was invited by DAV Public School, Vikaspuri, ND, to deliver a lecture on 'Being Assertive' on 22 Oct 2018. About 200 students of 10th and 11th classes along with their teachers attended the lecture. q A lecture on ‘Why employee performance matters?’ for ECE 7th Sem (Management Elective) students was delivered by their Alumnus Mr Pranav Nandwani (BTech, ECE, Class of 2016). Mr Pranav is a Data Analytics and Finance Specialist with capabilities ranging from Financial Analysis and Research, Data Processing to Data Visualization. He has passed level 2 exam of Chartered Financial Analyst. Currently, he is part of the Audit Analytics team of Deloitte's Advisory practice and is soon going to join CRISIL Global Research & Analytics as a Senior Research Analyst. q A guest lecture on 'Personality Development & Communication Skills for Future Managers' was delivered by Mr Shivani Malhotra, Founder and CEO, Positive Vibes, on 27 Sept 2018. Ms Shivani Malhotra shared the benefits of effective communication in organizational settings. She discussed the ways of creating a good impression through a 'one minute introduction' and significance of Business Etiquette in the corporate world was highlighted. Alumni Meet SOM organized an Alumni Meet for its MBA students on 5 Oct 2018, a first at the School level, aimed at building a strong connect with an active alumni community and creating a database in which 17 alumni were present. The evening started with a brief cultural programme organized by the UG students of the School followed by a discussion on how to take the association forward. The points that emerged during the discussion were viz., invite alumni for different activities, alumni to arrange for internship and placement opportunities

for students and create alumni to a social networking platform. The ultimate objective is to create a strong alumni network and reap the benefits from the same. Games were also organized in which the alumni participated actively and had fun. The meet ended with networking over high tea. The coordinators of E-Cell, N C U , a s C a m p u s Ambassadors, worked for the EAD (Entrepreneurship Awareness Drive) Local Star tups Meet 2018 – Gurugram, held on 13 Oct 2018 at Cowrks Gurugram organized by IIT Kharagpur (with GHV Accelerator as the Community Partner). The sessions were on Going Lean, Raising Venture Capital, Live-pitch with focus on early stage startups, from product-ready ones to the ones in the ideation phase. NCU students contributed in various activities such as Aakanksha Bhardwaj (CSE-3rd Year) was in-charge of the registrations, anchoring and a part of the press conference; Aayushi Jain and Anisha Das were a part of the hospitality team and Parth Sethi was responsible for sponsor management. This not only contributed towards securing a certificate from the E-Cell of IIT Kharagpur but the learning was immense in terms of exposure to budding entrepreneurs and investors. Workshop

Centre for Intellectual Property Rights Advocacy, Research and Training (CIPRART), SOL, organized a workshop on the theme 'Emerging Contemporary issues under Copyright Law: National and International Perspectives' for Law students on 5 Oct 2018. The speaker at the workshop was Mr GR Raghavender, Joint Secretary, Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice, GOI (Registrar Copyright Office). The workshop dealt with recent issues relating to Copyright Law under Beijing Treaty on audio-visual performances and Marrakesh Treaty to facilitate access to published works to visually impaired persons and persons with print disabilities. The workshop also focused on WIPO Treaty on Protection of Broadcasting Organizations with special emphasis on their limitations and exceptions. It dealt with recent issues on internet piracy, software protection under multilateral treatise, artificial intelligence with special emphasis on EU Directives on Copyright in the Digital Single Market and US Music Modernization Act. The sessions included presentations by reputed academicians and ministry officials from Ministry of Women and Child Development who explained the complaint procedure under the Act and shared their experiences while dealing with them. (SOL2018WA003)

q Dr Subhradipta Sarkar, Assistant Professor, was invited by Centre for Social Research (CSR) India to speak on the ‘Role of Panchayati Raj Institutions’ in the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' initiative at the Mini Secretariat, Gurugram.

Dr Subhradipta Sarkar was invited to be a part of the Safety Audit Team at DAV Public School, Sector 14, Gurugram, on 26 Sept 2018. The Team made a detailed survey of the safety facilities available on the premises and submitted a report.

3rd Year students accompanied by Mr Navin Pal Singh attended a seminar on Medico-Legal Literacy organized by DLSA, Gurugram, in association with IMA, Gurugram, on 7 Oct 2018. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Hon’ble Mr Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal, Judge Punjab & Haryana State High Court & Executive Chairman, Haryana State Legal Services Authority. Lectures were delivered on ‘Medical Negligence – The Changing Paradigm’ and ‘Consent–from informed to real’ followed by a documentary on ‘PCPNDT & MTP Act Relevance in present scenario’. Discussions were on topics such as ‘Violence Against Doctors – The Genesis & Impact’ and ‘Victims of Crime – Role & Duties of Doctors’. The expertise and experience of Prof. Wani was an excellent addition to SOL's programme on Comparative Public Law for LLM and Judicial Process for 9th Sem, BBA-LLB (H). ACM student ChapterACM student Chapter organized a lecture on 23 Oct 2018 on ‘Career Counselling for Higher Studies in USA’. The speaker Mr Raj Singh, Founder of Connexio Inc, USA, observed that focus is on placing recent graduates in the market while not enough is done for students who want to go for higher studies. Connexio is developing mobile and web applications that connect international students with global universities using Artificial Intelligence. Around 119 BTech students attended the lecture and 20 of them were selected as student ambassadors. Apart from gaining information about higher studies these students shall also be involved as interns with their product development team and based on their performance and contribution they would receive certificates from Connexio Inc, USA. The event was coordinated by Dr Rita Chhikara and Ms Meghna Sharma, Dept of CSE&IT.

The All India Computer Society Student and Young Professionals Congress held its 8th edition in Goa College of Engineering from 11-13 Oct 2018. The Congress had 175 delegates who were selected out of 600 students and 80 volunteers from all over the country. NCU team comprised of IEEE-NCU & IEEE C o m p u t e r S o c i e t y s t u d e n t members Virendra Pratap Singh Rathore, Ritika Sharma, Yashdeep Lamba, Esha Changotra.

The theme of the Congress was 3D printing technology and sessions focused on this technology with speakers from different sectors like healthcare, technology, law, research and business who shared their vision and workings on 3D printing.

ASQ NCU Chapter organized an interactive session with ASQ Business Development Head, Mr Anandiya Sarangi, on 3 Oct 2018. Mr Sarangi spoke about quality and how it leads to profit and increase in brand value. He also introduced the concept of ‘Industry 4.0’ and how maintaining quality will be a major part of the endeavour. He explained how quality is relevant in various domains including engineering, law and management. He encouraged students to increase their capabilities and be more versatile. q IEEE-NCU Society organised a workshop on ‘C with LINUX’ which was conducted by Webodeci Technologies, New Delhi, and attended by 80 students of the Depts of CSE & ECE on 4 Oct 2018. The workshop was primarily for beginners who have a hard time understanding how and where they will be using C or C++ in their career as a software engineer. C and C++ programmers are paid high salaries as these languages are one of the most powerful programming languages in computer science. One can build various applications which are not possible even with other high level languages. Students learnt some of the modern ways of doing computer programming, Linux with Virtualization along with intricate concepts such as concept of header files. Computer Vision with MySQL with C programming were introduced and a free demo with computer vision was demonstrated. The workshop focused on real life applications. q IEEE Computer Society Student Branch hosted an international hackathon 'IEEEXtreme 12.0' on 20 Oct 2018. A total of 11 teams with 32 students registered for this competition which was proctored by Dr Jyoti Sahni, Associate Professor, Dept of CSE&IT. This was the first time when IEEE's international hackathon was hosted at the University. Students were exposed to real world programming through this hackathon. The programming contest lasted for 24 hours.

q IEI (Institution of Engineers, India) CSE NCU Chapter organized a gaming event on 4 Oct 2018 under the guidance of Ms Neeti Kashyap and Ms Hitesh Yadav. The main objective of the event was to inculcate problem-solving skills in students. It was a great learning and stress bursting session. q IEI Student Chapter organized 'Technothon' a technical quiz on 9 Oct 2018. The quiz consisted of four rounds consisting of aptitude and technical questions from engineering domain and coding followed by a rapid fire round. A total of 16 teams participated, out of which 2 teams reached the final rapid fire round. 3rd Year ECE students emerged as the Winners. Top three teams were awarded certificates of appreciation and cash prizes and all participants were given certificates of participation. q A workshop was conducted on the topic ‘Group Discussions’ (GD) for students of BTech ECE 5th and 7th Sem on 27 Sept 2018. The trainer for the workshop was Ms Shikha Malhotra, a Certified Image Consultant (Conselle Institute of Image Management, USA), Soft Skills

Facilitator and Trainer (Scottish Qualifications Authority) and Certified Train the Trainer-TTT (National Accreditation Board for Education & Training). Details of Group Discussions, its importance and its starting (with an introduction by the facilitator) till its summarisation at the end, important and useful tips, do’s and don’ts, way to prepare for GDs, importance of knowledge of current affairs etc. were discussed. The workshop included two mock GDs in which students participated enthusiastically and benefitted by the review comments from the trainer. The workshop was coordinated by Dr Vandana Khanna and Dr Rekha Vig, Dept of EECE.

ISHRAE Student Sub-chapter and Dept of ME invited Mr Kapil Singhal, Regional Director (North), ISHRAE, Mr Sunil Gautam, Chair, Student Activities, ISHRAE, Mr Deepak Dhamija, President Elect 2019, Ms Glory Srivastava, CWC member and chair, Women Cell, ISHRAE Gurugram Chapter, for re-installation of ISHRAE Student Sub-chapter at NCU on 27 Sept 2018. The programme was graced by Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Prem Vrat; Vice-Chancellor, Prof. HB Raghavendra; Head, Dept of ME, Prof. Pramod Bhatia, and ISHRAE delegates. The programme was attended by around 100 ME students.

During the Installation Ceremony, Mr Kapil Singhal identified NCU as a potential partner in Gurugram Sub-chapter, amongst other ongoing partnerships with premier institutes. Mr Singhal spoke about benefits of being an ISHRAE student member as it had vast potential in terms of knowledge, training, attending various conferences and other activities (ACRECONF, ACREX etc.) every year.

Elected student President, Secretary and Treasurer of NCU Student Sub-chapter took the Oath of Office. It has 45 members with the steering committee constituting of six members from final and pre-final year batches. Re-installation of the ISHRAE Chapter is expected to give a boost to the industry-institute collaboration in the Dept of ME. The first round was a quiz ‘Playing with numbers’ based on simple quantitative aptitude questions with a limited time of 15 minutes. 74 teams (around 148 students) participated in the event out of which 16 teams qualified for the next round. The second round was ‘Partners in Crime’ and the third round was a quiz ‘Lock Unlock’. The winners of the competition were: 1st - Piyush and Rajan (BTech), 2nd - Shreyansh and Shubham (BTech) and 3rd - Juhi and Vaishali BSc Maths (H). OSA Student Leadership conference was an immersive experience. Convening 1,300 scientific and industry leaders and providing attendees with innovative programming, spanning the content areas giving rise to tomorrow’s technological breakthroughs. To that end, the conference was built around transformative technologies being developed under four key topics viz., automotive optics, nanophononics and plasmonic, quantum technologies and virtual reality and augmented vision. Futuristic focus inspired discussions addressed not only the evolution of the science, but also explored the future of optics and photonics community. (APS2018O031)

OSA Student Chapter

q OSA Student Chapter organized an outreach programme at the CSIR-National Physics Laboratory(NPL) on the occasion of CSIR-Foundation Day on 28 Sep 2018. A total of 30 students were selected for the visit to CSIR-NPL. The visit to one of the leading science and research laboratories in India and also one of the world's leading center of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate standards of length, mass, time, voltage, current etc inspired the students and motivated them.

There were scientific models and exhibits on display, as well as audio-visual shows on scientific activities of CSIR-NPL. Students learnt and gained knowledge about FID (Flammable Induction Detector); sample oven pressure; about pm 10,2.5,1 particles; biomass burning;

NCU Rotaract Club q NCU Rotaract Club visited ‘Ayurda’, old age home for homeless and

abandoned senior citizens, a heart touching initiative by the Earth Saviours Foundation, Bhandwari village, Gurugram on 27 Aug 2018. Mr Ravi Kalra, founder of the organization, told the students how many of the elderly people at the home had either been left neglected and unwanted by their children or even worse, had been picked up from the roadside after being abandoned by their own families. The students interacted with them and provided basic amenities and refreshments to them.

q The Installation Ceremony of NCU Rotaract Club ‘Shapath’ for the Rota year 2018-19 was held at the University, with the support of Rotary Club of Gurugram on 10 Oct 2018. The highlights of the ceremony were collaring of President Rotaractor, student Achana Saini, pinning of Secretary Rotaractor, student Snehal Mittal and other Board members. Addressing the gathering, Rotarian Dr Sushil Khurana, former District Governor Rotary International, appealed to the youth to take up social causes with motivation and commitment and bring change in the society. Other Rotarians spoke about the successful work done by the Rotary Club of Gurugram and assured support to the NCU Rotaract Club. Outgoing Secretary Rotaractor student Tashi Vaish presented the annual report of the NCU Rotaract Club.

Yuktiq 'Yukti' the social service club of NCU visited the Tau Devi Lal Old Age

Home, Sector 4, Gurugram, under Suvidha and Khushi Cell, on 15 Oct 2018. Efforts were to provide some support and spread cheer among the destitute women residents of the home. Students spent time with each resident of the old age home and donated a few basic amenities and organized refreshments. It was a great experience meeting the inmates, many of whom had been abandoned by their family but still did not lack in spirit. We must remember that they do not need gifts or money, all they need is our time. The students helped them in taking their meals which left them touched emotionally. Dr Neeraj Kr Shukla, faculty coordinator accompanied the students to Tau Devi Lal old age home.

q Out of 20 the most polluted cities worldwide, 13 are in India and one of them is our city Gurugram. Therefore, to reduce carbon footprint Yukti in collaboration with United Way organized a song and street play on ‘Awareness Against Air Pollution’ on 5 Oct 2018. The event was a huge success as it attracted a lot of people and helped them realize the urgent global issue of pollution and highlighted ways to reduce carbon footprint. After this eye opening and motivating street play, our team and audience pledged to reduce carbon footprint by the following methods:

• Unplug electric devices when not in use.

• Use more of public transport.

• Buy local and organic food etc.
