M&S Great Yarmouth Simply Food Practical completion was granted for
M&S Great Yarmouth Simply Foods on
9th
January 2015.
Works involved in the seven week
project duration consisted of: new
flooring; ceilings; refrigeration units;
brand new tills & IT; internal and external
signage; back of house accommodation;
customer toilets; ambient shelving;
mechanical & electrical works and fire
alarm & sprinklers to the unit.
The new Simply Food also offers
shoppers the chance to relax at the 36
seat M&S café which also offers ‘tastes ‘
from the foodhall.
The project was a trial for ‘offsite
manufacture’ of various components
including: walls for toilets; cold room;
plant room; café; L.V.panel.
The site, managed by Contracts Manager
Andy Martin, was a registered
Considerate Constructor Scheme project.
The project was visited by the CCS
monitor in January who complimented
the works. At the time of going to press
we are still awaiting feedback on our
score but we are confident of a positive
result.
M&S – Installation of Menswear
Footwear Equipment Audas have been awarded 6 cafes from the Café Full Modernisation tender we
submitted last year. This is further to the works Audas have done with the M&S
Hospitality team last year. As main contractors we will assume responsibilities
previously carried out by a specialist hospitality contractor. This will result in
substantial savings to M&S, not only in terms of cost and programme but having
the benefit of expertise input from Audas.
The schemes allocated;
- Hedge End
- Altrincham
- Reading
- Edinburgh
- Pollock
- Shrewsbury
The works involve full strip out and close down of the café and provision of a
temporary offer. Overall the roll out is worth £1.2m which is to be delivered
before Easter. With expected PC dates fast approaching works at Altrincham
and Hedge End have already begun with other sites due to commence in the
next few weeks.
M&S Café Framework
The installation of menswear footwear
equipment is due to start next month. This is
an extension to the Menswear Lite scheme
which Audas delivered last year. Audas have
been allocated, namely: Camberley; Cheshire
Oaks; Warrington Gemini; Handforth; Hedge
End & Metro Centre the works involve
installation of the menswear footwear
equipment.

Guilty or Not Guilty – What’s your verdict?
On the January 29th both Martin Brophy will be attending a ‘mock trial’ at St George’s Hall, Liverpool.
The set trial is the HSE v Peter Scott Construction Limited whereby a labourer on a construction site has been
severed with a live electric cable and suffering serious injury.
This Working Well Together (WWT) event will be presented by international law firm, Pinsent Masons LLP, in
conjunction with leading health and safety barristers from Temple Garden Chambers. Keith Morton QC will act as
the presiding Judge, with his colleagues Simon Jackson QC and Dominic Adamson acting as counsel for the
prosecution and defence.
The audience, including Martin, take on the role of the jury and vote on the verdict of the company after
reviewing all the evidence from both sides. The aim of the event is to educate the industry on preventative
action and the importance of having processes in place and an awareness of their legal requirements.
B&Q & Audas We are pleased to announce that we have secured
work with B&Q for the first quarter of 2015. In the
latter part of February Audas will be venturing across
the border into Scotland for the store closure at
Dundee. Works will are anticipated to take around 4
weeks and will involve the strip out and the ‘making
good’ of the unit.
In addition (March 2015) we will crossing the water
to Ireland , to be more specific Dublin Tallaght. We
have been tasked with the making
good of two retail units after the
store closure. The duration of the
works is expected to be
approximately 5 weeks.

Promotion Success!
We are pleased to
announce the promotion
of Nabilah Salihi. Nabilah
has now progressed to
Senior Quantity Surveyor
role at Audas.
Congratulation Nabilah!
In October 2014 we joined FORCES with our Insurance provider, Fusion Insurance,
to participate in their Fusion e-learning programme. Fusion Thinking is an online
Risk Management System made up of different safety categories such as: PPE;
H&S Management and Plant & Asset Management.
As a company we have chosen 13 courses relevant to our work including: COSHH,
Fire Safety, Manual Handling to name only a few. Each course is approx. 30-60
minutes long and after rolling out our first course (Manual Handling) we’ve had
minimal problems and fantastic results across the team.
With the deadline now lapsed for the Manual Handling course we will soon be
rolling out further courses such as Driving Safety, Display Screen Equipment;
Health and Safety for Managers; Office Safety; Risk Assessment; Stress Awareness;
Slips, trips and falls and Fire Safety.
On Thursday 8th
January 2015 Audas were invited to
participate in the Vodafone Health and Safety
conference at their Newbury headquarters. Phil
Sharp and Martin Brophy attended delivering a
presentation on the challenges of a retail fit out and
how Audas have addressed these issues and found
solutions to the challenges the teams face on a day-
today basis. Some of the challenges included were
space constraints, welfare, asbestos and electrics to
name but a few. Other presentations on the day
included and an address from Jeroen Hoencamp the
Vodafone Chief Executive and Arlette Anderson,
Head of UK Health and safety who reviewed
Vodafone’s absolute rules.
Other presentations included:
• Looking at the impact of a fatality on a
business
• Working at height (mast installations)
• Street works
• Driver fleet Safety
Phil Sharp, Director, who was in attendance on the
day stated: ‘It was a pleasure that Vodafone
requested Audas to present on the challenges and
risks we face during refurbishment works, and to
detail what is seen as best practice to overcome
these challenges. The Audas presentation was well
received by the 150+ delegates in attendance, who
included Vodafone staff and a large cross section of
Vodafone’s supply chain, albeit a bit daunting for
myself and Martin Brophy when on stage, micro
phoned up with the spot light shining.
Nevertheless, the whole day was about the
importance of Health and Safety across a myriad of
works and how everyone has to play their part. Of
significant note one of the speakers shared their
unfortunate experiences of a fatality to one of their
workforce, (which as you can imagine was deeply
saddening to hear) but acted as an extremely strong
message that safe working practices must be adhered
to at all times and taking risk, or doing something
unplanned, can have a catastrophic effect on so
many people.

Audas Newsletter
‘Team Vodafone’ consisting of Martin Rowe, John Goode, Sam Armstrong & John Grace have been busy over the past 3
months completing projects at: Whitehaven; Morpeth; Belfast; Newark; North Finchley; Accrington and Alton.
The North Finchley store, (previously a ‘Phones 4 U’ outlet) opened on the 13th
November 2014. The landmark opening
was a proud moment for Vodafone, and indeed Audas having been involved in the making of Vodafone history.
The Vodafone Team have just attained practical completion on the 14th
January 2015 at the Glasgow Forge outlet and are
now gearing up to commence works at Waltham Cross on the 19th
January.
We were anticipating a slow start to the New Year with Vodafone sites with an allocation of only 3 stores in the first
quarter, but we are delighted to report this has now increased to 10, with a high possibility of there being more in the
pipeline.

Audas ‘Waist Management Team’
Last September, various members of the team came together to form the Audas ‘Waist Management
Team’. The aim was to motivate each other to lose weight, become healthier and ultimately see
inches disappear from their waist lines. In December 2014 the winner was revealed as Lindsay
Bowker who won 80% of the pot with Kirsten Brown coming a close second taking the remaining 20%
The team lost as a collective 109 lbs throughout the 3 months – the final weigh in day being the day
before Audas Day.
Due to popular demand the Waist Management Team are back to help team members banish those
bingo wings in 2015. The team has already had their first weigh in, but don’t despair entries are still
open until the 19th
January 2015.
Where do I start? Just record your weight ASAP either at the office or send a pic of your weighing
scales result to Rose who will track your weight. Thereafter repeat the above each Monday.
The winner and runner up will be announced on the 1st
May 2015, the Friday before May Bank
holiday. As before 80% of the pot to the biggest loser, 20% to runner up. Judging is based on
percentage of body weight lost. We will of course be periodically reporting the cumulative weekly
weight loss of the group.
To ensure motivation levels a fortnight leaflet of helpful tips and interesting hints on weight loss will be issued
to the whole of ‘Team Audas’ to hopefully encourage everyone reduce/maintain their waist lines.

Audas Day 2014
On Friday 5th
December 2014 the whole of Audas joined together for an
afternoon of information sharing at the prestigious Royal Baths Chinese
Restaurant Harrogate, for our annual ‘Audas Day’. The aim of the day was to
share information gained from all teams across the year, learn new ideas from
each other and look back at the year in full to celebrate our continued success.
The afternoon went fantastically with all enjoying a delicious Chinese lunch
whilst presentations from the Directors and Admin team went down a storm
with the whole team.
To finish off the day most of the team hit the lively
town of Harrogate, receiving VIP treatment
in the Viper Rooms where our guys were able to
demonstrate their moves on the dance floor.
In the past Audas have entered a team on three separate occasions albeit, for whatever
reason, we missed out last year. Anyhow, we are looking to return this year, stronger
than ever, to once again pound the streets of Manchester raising funds for Martin
House Children’s Hospice
Steve Hanson from Callidus is currently fundraising for Martin House Children’s
Hospice. In April, he is aiming to complete a marathon and around 75 miles of cycling
per day for 12 days to cover the (approx) 1,200 miles of the journey which will take him
down the Atlantic Coast of France from North to South. (I’m sure you will agree - 10k
Falls into insignificance in comparison to undertaking a marathon a day, every day, for
12 days). Steve has a fundraising target of £20,000 – hopefully the Audas team and
their supply chain partners can help him on his way by contributing their fundraising
efforts to his nominated charity.
If anyone would like to participate please drop Lindsay Bowker a line.
