Situated as it is at preoent, in the Work-bouss at the foot of Ireest reet, it is too re- mote from the centre of the lworr portion of the District. and this ineonvenieice is serinouy felt at night, when arrests are made. and the Watchmen having charge of prisoners are frequently compelled to be absent for an hour or two fom their beats. In addition tothis. the Werk-house is now so much crowded as to render the accommodations for the temporary detention of prisoners altogether ineAecient. In view of this state of things, I wonuld recommend the reection of s new Watch-honse on the propertybeioning to the city, and situated in Baronne street. The position is an eligible and central one, and has the advantage, moreover. of being in the immediate neighborhood ofthe Bcorder's office. Maeont vr or NswOat oss, May 18, 15.o the Heme-lo Presietts ad Meo• ekr, of th, Berd of

Jlideren and LA Board of ,soltLscu dideea of theCiy ofNeworians :

Oeem•n e-I desire to call your attention to the no-ceseity of chaging the present location of the Watch-houee of the First Dtistrict. Situated as it is at preoent,in the Work-bouss at the foot of Ireest reet, it is too re-mote from the centre of the lworr portion of the District.and this ineonvenieice is serinouy felt at night, whenarrests are made. and the Watchmen having charge ofprisoners are frequently compelled to be absent for anhour or two fom their beats. In addition to this. theWerk-house is now so much crowded as to render theaccommodations for the temporary detention of prisonersaltogether ineAecient.

In view of this state of things, I wonuld recommend thereection of s new Watch-honse on the propertybeioningto the city, and situated in Baronne street. The positionis an eligible and central one, and has the advantage, moreover. of being in the immediate neighborhood of theBcorder's office.

An election having barn ordered for Third Jutioe o ofthe Peace, to 1i the vacanecy occasioned by the resglna-tion of the Hon. P. Pecquet, said election to take placson Saturday, the 29th iost, it will become the duty ofetch Boord of the Common dounctl, by virtnue of the ithsection of the new Charter. to appoint one Commissionerand one Ilark to preside over said election.

The election for delegates to the Convention to frame anew Constitution, is to take place on the 14th June next, and it wil also be necessary to appoint the Commissionersand Clerks, as prescribed by law.
