her medical centre and doctors and nurses to tend her village people, even if for a little while during one's vacation.. RIP Ray Klinginsmith commenced his abbreviated address by saying he’d responded to a non Rotarian’s question of how many Rotary Clubs there are in the world (33,000) with the follow up question of was he going to visit ALL of them with ‘No, only the important ones’ as the reason he was presenting the Annual Dr Ken Collins Address in Perth. RIP Ray is the first person to present this address twice. He did so back in 2003 as a Trustee of the Rotary Foundation and now again in 2010 as President of Rotary

International. Ray focused extremely well on Rotary’s role in the eradication of Polio, telling us of the early history of Rotary’s involvement, its highs and lows and the exciting news that we are on the brink of eradicating only the second disease in history that can be eradicated. ‘Congratulations on a wonderful evening, very global and professional’ is perhaps the feedback received which most exemplifies what we set out annually to achieve. A huge thank you to each member who attended, participated and assisted in making the event successful. Please support the Rotary

Foundation, our own Foundation for Peace. We truly do have the power to make a difference, one project at a time.

This Week: Our AGMThis week's meeting is our last regular meeting for 2010, as next week our meeting will be a special dinner to celebrate both our club's 2nd birthday and the festive season.

The meeting will include the Annual General Meetings of both our club and our club's foundation.

At this stage President Di has

not received any completed forms from those nominating to be on the club's board for 2011/12. Please do give serious thought in the next few days to stepping up and taking on a director or executive position. New blood on the board is vital for new ideas, and we aim to take up as little of your spare time as possible!

Congratulations!Daniel and Claire Forsdyke, who were Group Study Exchange Team Members to Malaysia and South Africa respectively, were recognised as Level 2 Major Donors to the Rotary Foundation at the Dr Ken Collins Address. Thank you Daniel and Claire for your commitment to and support of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

Simone Carot Collins was presented with a Meritorious Service Award by the Rotary Down Under Board of Directors during the Zone Institute this past weekend, to recognise her work over the past 4 years in putting together the “Rotaract in Action” section every 3 months. Simone writes and edits articles about Rotaract activities across Australia and New Zealand, sources photos, and for the first few years, did all the layout of the pages as well.

Emma Court, whom we sponsored to attend RYPEN in 2009, and who returned to RYPEN in 2010 as a trainee leader, has been elected as Head Girl at MLC for 2011.

RYLA. As we have only set aside funding for one participant, Alan is seeking funds from BHP Billiton for the second participant.

Money SpinnerThe Claremont Quarter has not given permission to put a money spinner in the shopping centre on an ongoing basis. They suggest it be for three days at a time and ‘manned’.

Ken Collins is continuing to discuss the concept with them, as Rob Pearce has indicated that Floreat Forum have a money spinner outside Woolworths.

Christmas PartyMembers are encouraged to invite friends and family to our second birthday / Christmas dinner at the Nedlands Golf Club on Thursday, 16th December.

Numbers are required, along with pre payment for the function. Max Kay is the speaker. It should be a fun night so members and ‘friends’ of the club please join us for the double celebration.

RC Wanneroo FundraiserThe Rotary Club of Wanneroo are offering Paul Conti wines which they are using as a fundraiser. An order form is attached to the bulletin for anyone who wishes to place an order.

Volunteers Sought Researchers from the School of Psychology at the University

of Western Australia are seeking people aged 50+ for a study investigating how people differ in the ways they deal with emotions as they age. Participation would involve filling out some questionnaires, either online or at home.

Some volunteers may then be approached with an invitation to come to UWA, and complete some simple and interesting tasks that require no experience. We can arrange parking, and will provide $10 to cover travel costs. Your assistance with this research will enable us to greatly extend

knowledge of mental health and well-being across the life span.

With your help, we hopefully can add to our knowledge about that the factors that may help or hinder successful ageing.

Rotary International News30 November 2010

At its November meeting, the RI Board approved a number of recommendations and actions to reinforce the priorities and goals of the RI Strategic Plan.

The changes, which include endorsing the concept of flexible attendance and meeting requirements and allocating US$4 million for Public Relations Grants, are designed to keep Rotary vibrant and attractive to current members and prospective members from younger generations.

"By focusing on strategic issues throughout the week, the Board was able to reach consensus on several strategic decisions, which constitute progressive moves by the RI Board," says RI President Ray Klinginsmith.Among other actions, the Board

1. Agreed to the concept of amending RI policy on meeting attendance, meeting options, and member termination in order to support and strengthen clubs by allowing them more flexibility. The changes will require revisions to the RI Constitution and the Standard Rotary Club Constitution in

the form of legislation submitted to the 2013 Council on Legislation.2. Agreed to fund US$4 million in PR grants annually, starting in 2011-12 for at least three years, to advance the strategic priority of enhancing public image and awareness.

3. Supported the creation of an annual Rotary Citation beginning in 2012-13 that would replace future Presidential Citations. The new citation would be based on clubs achieving predetermined goals that are aligned with the clubs' and RI's strategic direction.

4. Agreed to transform RI programs to a “resource and support” model to help clubs and districts in their service efforts and advance the strategic priority of focusing and increasing humanitarian service.

5. Agreed to replace the vision statement in the RI Strategic Plan with a core essence statement, which uses more contemporary language and better expresses what Rotary is and does.

6. Agreed to conduct four new pilot programs -- associate member, corporate member, satellite clubs, and innovative and flexible Rotary clubs -- to

promote membership diversity and improve recruitment, beginning 1 July. Two hundred clubs will be accepted for each three-year pilot.

7. Encouraged districts with more than 100 clubs and over 4,000 members to split into two or three new districts as early as 1 July 2012.

The Strategic Planning Committee suggested many of the changes to help move the organization toward an emphasis on active and engaged membership.

"Rotary must change its culture from one of attendance to one of engagement," says RI Director Stuart B. Heal, chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. "It is our belief that in the next decade this must become our culture as we become more innovative and continue serving around the world."

Says Klinginsmith: "It was a historic week for Rotary."
