Narrandera High School
Issue 12 Week 4 Term 3 Tuesday 13th August 2019
We celebrated Education Week last week in spectacular fashion with our KROP
singers and dancers performing over two days at Griffith Regional Theatre. KROP
stands for Kids Rapt on Performing and is our version of ‘School Spectacular’ for the
schools in this region. It was wonderful to see our students perform so well especially
considering this was the first time Narrandera High had performed at KROP. We are
looking forward to even bigger and better things for KROP 2020. Sincere thanks to
organising teachers Julie Ramos and Brooke Gilmour for their effort and dedication
in preparing our KROP students so well.
Our final ‘Hands on High School’ was also held last Tuesday. Prospective students
and their families this time enjoyed a taste of PDHPE, Maths, Geography and Sci-
ence. Thank you to all families that attended and to the NHS staff who led activities.
We are looking forward to welcoming another large Year 7 cohort in 2020. Our for-
mal orientation program will commence in term 4.
At Narrandera High School we are always looking at programs we can adopt that
will ensure each and every one of our students is known, valued and cared for.
With this in mind, our Intervention Centre will commence a breakfast program for
girls which will initially operate every Monday and Friday. This will complement our
existing Clontarf training and breakfast program available for our boys.
Our NAIDOC Day that was held on July 31 was also a huge success. Our NAIDOC
mural connecting A Block and our Library, looks absolutely amazing!! Thank you to
Stewart James for designing this special artwork. Thanks are also extended to our
NAIDOC Day organisers Joy O’Hara, Glen Borg and Kay Dunbar.
The furniture for our new STEM Centre has also recently arrived and this space looks
great. We are very fortunate to have such welcoming and modern teaching and
learning spaces at Narrandera High School. We will continue to modernise our
classrooms moving forward in line with our focus on contemporary teaching and
learning.
Kind Regards,
Marni Milne

RFS CADETS GRADUATION
The NSW Rural Fire Service Secondary Schools Cadet Program held their graduation
ceremony on Monday 29th July at Narrandera High School where the student par-
ticipants received their certificates.

were joined by their parents and also Member for
Cootamundra Steph Cooke, as well as the Shire
Mayor, Mr Neville Kschenka and other representa-
tives from the Rural Fire Service.

NAIDOC DAY
As part of our NAIDOC Day celebrations, Stewart James joined us to cre-
ate a mural joining A and F block in the upstairs walkway. Our students
teamed up with Stewart as part of group rotations during the day to com-
plete a memorable addition to our school that will last many years.

YEAR 8 GEOGRAPHY
Year 8 are currently completing an investigation of water
management in the Murray-Darling. 8S conducted water
quality tests at three sites around the school. Fieldwork is
a mandatory part of the Geography syllabus. Geogra-
phy teaches our students a broad range of skills that can
be applied to a variety of occupations and careers.
As part of our fieldwork, we tested the water tempera-
ture, pH, ammonia, and phosphorus levels as well as the
turbidity. Maintaining safe pH levels, minimising ammo-
nia, and phosphorus levels mean that our fish are able to
survive and thrive.
Our findings showed that the tank water was the clearest
with a pH level of 6.5 and phosphorus level of 1. The tap
water recorded the
highest phosphorus
level and 2 and a
pH of 8. The bubbler
water - though it
was the most turbid -
had a pH of 7.5 and
a phosphorus level
of 0.5. We know
what we’ll be drink-
ing!

SCHOOL PHOTOS
School photos arrived back at school last week. Please check with your children if you
haven’t seen them.
For those that did not order photos, it is still not too late. (Your child’s photo was taken
regardless). Year Advisors will hand out a unique code for those that didn’t order. You
will be able to do this on-line.
Please contact the office if unsure.
**UPDATE** - There was an error in the printing of the student photo booklets. A number
of rows of children’s names where missed from the group shot. These are being reprint-
ed and will be sent back to school to hand out.

U15’S BOYS BASKETBALL
Narrandera High's Under 15 Boys Basketball team were the winners of
the South West Gala day in Leeton yesterday.
Narrandera defeated Murrumbidgee Regional HS 72-42 in their first
game which took them into a grand final matchup with hosts Leeton HS,
who had beaten Yanco Ag HS and RAP comfortably in their two prelimi-
nary games.
Our boys started strongly racing to a 20 point lead in the first quarter and
never letting Leeton get close, running out 63-38 winners with all ten
players contributing on the score sheet.
The next assignment for our boys is a home game against Deniliquin in
the Riverina final, with the winner to progress to the main draw of the
state knockout.

KROP
Narrandera High School com-
peted at its first ever KROP (Kids
rapt on Performing) festival last
week in Griffith
A mountain of work behind the
scenes from teachers Mrs B Gil-
mour and Mrs Ramos ensured a
very successful debut.
Our girls sang and danced over
two days at a night perfor-

FOOD TECHNOLOGY
Year 9 Food Technology got creative last week in the kitchen. NAILED IT!!!!!
We cooked the cupcakes at the start of the week and then iced them on Thursday.
They could either decorate their cupcakes as Cookie Monsters or Minions. It was
their first time using the piping bags and they picked it up really quickly. They really
enjoyed this lesson.
