New Products at the Gift Gallery

New at the Gift Gallery is a shadowbox 3D reproduction ofFerdinand Richardt's 1858 oil on canvas painting TrentonHigh Falls. It became

a tourist attraction in themid-1820s and remained ahigh point of a scenic tour formore than half a century.

Another new product at theGift Gallery is a MWPAILogo 4 Square Tote. The totehas a zippered main compart-ment, a mesh water bottlepocket, a side media pocket,pen and business card pocketswith shoulder-length handles.The polyester tote is 17" x14" x 4".

The Museum of Art congratulates Susan Ohmann, Beth Tegart, andMarian Wilson who upon completion of 15 months of training jointhe ranks of the museum docents whose numbers now reach 40.

Susan Ohmann has always enjoyed visiting museums and historicplaces. After retiring from 36 years of teaching, she thought volun-teering at the museum would be interesting and rewarding.“Joining the docent team has been a gratifying learning experi-ence,” she said.

Beth Tegart has been an advocate for the arts for many years.From the spoken art of storytelling, to the decorative art ofVictorian children’s pottery, to the fine art of the Hudson RiverSchool, all have held a deep and enduring fascination for her.Museums and libraries have always been important to her, andshe is excited to become part of the MWPAI docent program. Bethlooks forward to learning more from her new friends and col-leagues.

Marian Wilson was a past president of the Central New YorkCommunity Arts Council, a scholar with the National Endowmentfor the Humanities, and a coordinator of a public school enrich-ment program. As a docent, Marian plans to continue participatingand promoting the arts in our community.

The docents introduce student and adult visitors to a world of dis-covery by presenting tours on the museum’s outstanding perma-nent collection and exciting special exhibitions.

Interested in becoming a docent? The Museum of Art EducationDepartment is accepting applications for the 2012/2013 docenttraining program that begins in September. Interested men andwomen should have an enthusiastic and friendly attitude, the abilityto communicate effectively with groups, a strong interest in art,and available time for training and presentation of tours. It is notnecessary that candidates have prior knowledge of art history, pub-lic speaking experience, or teaching credentials.
