    Moorabool Shire has called on candidates in this years Victorian state election to commit to the shires top infrastructure needs.

    Moorabool mayor Paul Tatchell said he was calling on candidates standing in the Buninyong, Melton and Gisborne electorates to back the shires top seven priorities.

    Weve discussed these projects with the candidates, but to date they havent committed the level of support required to ensure these vital projects happen, Cr Tatchell said. Time is running out.

    The seven key priority projects are the Western Bypass of Bacchus Marsh (Halletts Way); eastern transport and freight bypass of Bacchus Marsh; Darley early-years hub; Parwan employment zone; sewerage for small towns; Moorabool Indoor Aquatic Centre; and recreation reserves for growing communities.

    Cr Tatchell said the Western Bypass of Bacchus Marsh/Halletts Way extension was a no brainer the community desperately needs with a cost that is a drop in the ocean for state finances.

    The council, developers and state and federal governments have committed funding to the project, but council is asking state election candidates to pledge the additional $1.92 million required.

    Cr Tatchell said he looked forward to meeting candidates again to discuss their plans.

    A 16-year-old Caroline Springs resident has just spent nine days doing community service in Timor Leste. Nathan Peeters was one of 15 Catholic Regional College students from the Sydenham campus to paint and landscape the Timor-Leste Scout Activity Centre in the village of Metinaro. Nathan and his fellow students also donated camping equipment to Scouts Timor; they were engaged in cultural activities to learn more about the country and met with the Australian ambassador. Gorton MP Brendan OConnor last week gave Nathan a Community Achievement Award for his efforts. Its an amazing achievement to visit our neighbours to the north and be a part of an activity that helps enrich the lives of others, he said. Charlene Macaulay

    Victorias paramedics are highly skilled professionals who dedicate their lives to serving the community and helping out in tough times.

    Ambulance Victoria and Victorian Government representatives have been negotiating with the ambulance union over a new pay deal for paramedics since August 2012.

    To break the deadlock, the Victorian Government has agreed with Ambulance Victoria to make a new pay offer to paramedics.

    This new offer is fair and reasonable. It includes:

    a sign-on payment of $3000 for full-time paramedics (pro rata for part-timers and new employees) this is twice as much as the previous offer

    an immediate 6% wage increase

    an increase of 3% in July 2015 and a further 3% in July 2016 a 12% increase in total.

    Paramedics may also receive pay increases arising from the Fair Work Commissions arbitration of their work value claim.

    Paramedics existing terms and conditions will be retained, so that they continue to receive:

    10 weeks paid leave annually

    10 weeks paid parental leave

    6 months long service leave after 15 years service

    tax exempt benefits of up to $9000 a year.

    Victorian paramedics will still be the only paramedics in Australia to have access to guaranteed superannuation benefits via a defined benefit superannuation scheme, including a lump-sum option after 30 years of service.

    These increases will mean an ALS Year 6 paramedic can receive a total package of more than $110,000 a year (including rolled-in-rate, built-in overtime, FBT exempt benefits and guaranteed superannuation benefits but not additional overtime). In addition, paramedics will receive the $3,000 sign-on payment.

    The Victorian Government is continuing to invest in ambulance services, with funding provided for an additional 539 full-time equivalent ambulance officers.

    This new pay offer gives paramedics the salary increase they deserve, maintains the generous terms and conditions they enjoy today and recognises the importance of the job they do protecting and saving lives.
