Dear Parents/Carers
Transition has been the main focus this week. We welcomed our new Year 7 students and families to Barnwell and Year 9 have continued with their transition into Year 10 on the Upper Campus.
On Monday we had an amazing New Intake evening with activities and presentations for students and parents. On Thursday over 230 Year 6 students spent the day with us, getting familiar with the school day, lessons and expectations. Everyone had a positive start and we look forward to seeing them all return in September.
As we move into the final week of term, I would like to promote some of the events that will be taking place:
Monday – Inter-college sports and Year 9 transition day 5
Tuesday – Sports Day
Wednesday – Year 9 transition day 6
Thursday – Community afternoon, Race for Life and Barnfest
Friday – Last day of term finish 12.15pm
Could I please encourage as many students and families to be involved in Race for Life and Barnfest

Lets Celebrate Success: Outside Achievements
Congratulations to William L in Year 8!
We are very proud of one of our Year 8 students, William L for continuing to excel at a very high level in Archery this year. William is an incredibly dedicated archer who spends many hours each week working on his accuracy and technique.
I'm incredibly happy to feedback that William came first in the National Junior Championships in Lilleshall which is the Head Quarters of Archery GB!
Out of his 144 shot on Sunday, 105 of them were golds (the dead centre of the boss).
We are all very proud of William at Barnwell. He is a true sporting role model for our other students as he continues to show what you can do with passion, hard work and dedication.
We are all very excited to see what the future holds for him in the world of top-level Archery.
Well done and keep up the great work.

Stevenage Schools Parliament
Visit to Westminster
On Wednesday 10th July, four of our Year 8
Ambassadors (and my daughter!) joined the
Stevenage Schools Parliament (SSP) visit to
Westminster. The SSP is made up of students
from Barnwell School as well as various
Primary Schools across Stevenage. They
represent all the students across Stevenage
and look at ways to improve the lives of young
people across the town, both in and out of
school.
Our four students have represented
Barnwell School in all the SSP meetings
throughout the year at the Stevenage
Council Chambers with support from the
Stevenage Mayor and other key staff.
It was great to reward our students for
their hard work and dedication to
Barnwell and other young people of
Stevenage.
They all had an incredible tour around the Houses of Parliament, just as they were preparing for Prime Minister’s questions!
Huge thank you to Shelagh Mackey for organising the event
and to all the students on the trip for being impeccably
behaved and representing their schools with such pride.

Sports News - continued
Thursday 4th July - Last week we hosted our annual Key Stage 3 Sports Awards Evening.
It was fantastic to celebrate the successes of our KS3
sports students with their parents and other family
members on a beautiful summer evening that epitomised
the spirit of 'Team Barnwell'.
Students were recognised for their commitment to sport
at Barnwell and the player of the year was announced
for each team.
Chefs Mr Cozens, Mr Franklin and Mr Neocleous served
up a brilliant barbeque during the interval before
students and their families joined the rest of the PE team for the main prize giving ceremony.
Congratulations to all of our winners on the night and to everyone else who has contributed to
another successful year of sport at Barnwell.
We can’t wait for next season!
Headteacher Celebration Breakfast
This morning I had the pleasure of holding my first Headteacher breakfast in recognition of the outstanding achievements of some of our Year 8 students.
The Year 8 netball team won school team of the year at the Stevenage Sporting Futures Awards, Max came 2nd in the individual award for his diving achievements and William recently won the National Junior Archery Championships.
We even managed to get a shout out on the Chris Evans Virgin Radio Show (although they edited out Max and William!). Available on listen again – around 12 minutes into the show…

Maths:
Venn Diagrams
Practical lessons are not possible for many maths topics, but with Venn Diagrams, a level 5 topic, we found a way!
My students produced a 3 Way Venn Diagram based on the pets in their home, followed by some probability questions relating to the finished Venn. Mrs Gibson
