Sorrow is considered as a negative factor of life by many of us. Most of us do not like to be sorrowed. Many a time when we had gone through sorrowful

events we cursed our own lives. We want to be happy all the time. We want only joyful events. We pray to God to save us from all kind of sorrows. It means that we hate sorrows. It is true and a factor of life for almost all of us. But we should not forget that everything has other side. It may not be familiar but faith seeks the other side of familiar truths. Our faith should be equipped to seek the other side of already knowing-known-truths. Here is one familiar truth that sorrow is an enemy of life. It should be hatred. It brings nothing but inconvenience and discomfort. But the Bible reveals the other side of sorrow. It is importance to every person to know the other side of sorrow in order to have an outlook of life and to understand the meaning of life much more deeply.

The man of God Moses says that the days of a person may be seventy or eighty years but its span is nothing but trouble and sorrow (Ps.90:10). It is translated in the Malayalam Bible as “the honor of life is trouble and sorrow.” Usually in our thinking the honor of life is and should be happy and joy. Why does Moses say so? Something should be there. That something is the other side of sorrow which is unfamiliar for us.

Sorrow is the one that keeps you very near to God. It is true that whenever we are passing through sorrows we depend on God very sincerely more than the time of happiness. Sorrow strengthens faith. Faith lives strongly during the time of sorrows and troubles. Sorrow brings us God’s consolation and peace. Sorrow makes us to pray without fail and with full commitment. Sorrow enables us to understand God’s love and providence very meaningfully. When we have sorrow we eagerly seek God’s presence and guidance. If sorrow does all these factors

how you can hate it. Sorrow is a powerful channel which connects us with God.

God says that God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Ps. 34:18). God declares the truth that God extends the consoling presence to the person who has sorrows. In addition to this God reveals that God saves the person whose mind is broken. Here God gives assurance that the presence and salvation of God is definitely with the brokenhearted and grief-stricken person. Therefore, sorrow brings presence and salvation of God. At the same time God has special consideration on sorrowing persons. God’s preference goes with those persons. If this is the case how we can hate sorrows and troubles.

Let us have a new outlook about life through realizing the other side of sorrow. Sorrow makes you pray more and sincerely; enables you to depend on God; strengthens your faith; encourages you to being with God; helps you to experience God’s presence and be in God’s salvation. What a grace is with sorrows. Let us love sorrows to have a meaningful life with God. ■

Cathedral NewsSunday School"I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth

We thank and praise God for his mercy and grace that surrounded us in everything we did. Children are enjoying their vacation and we request your prayers for their spiritual growth. We are also thankful to God for the blessed time of VBS which our children enjoyed from April 22 to April 28. The first day began with a word of prayer by Rev. Mervin Boas followed by felicitation by Rev P. J. Jacob. The morning sessions began with a time

of singing led by Mr. W. J. Eipe and Mr. Binu. We then moved on to the devotion time led by VBS leaders, Mr. V. J. Assaria, Mr. W. J. Eipe, Mrs. Elizabeth Ipe& Mrs. Benitta Billy. Then the children went on for classes which were handled by a team of dedicated and committed teachers. We are thankful to God for each one of them volunteering to serve the Lord through VBS. We always had the complete voluntary involvement of our team of vibrant and energetic youth members led by Mr. Lijo Joseph and Ms. Sinu Benjamin. They were wholeheartedly involved in many activities of the VBS which made a big difference during this VBS. They taught actions for the songs, engaged our children with meaningful and interesting games and activities, performed impactful skit, served refreshments and lunch, helped in caring for the kids using the arranged transportation, making arrangements regarding games and activities, and many more. We are thankful for their joyful and wholehearted support and we are grateful to God for for their wholehearted service in the extension of God's Kingdom. Let's remember them in our prayers that they would be a great blessing. We are also grateful to God for Mr. Jibu Jose who was there with us always ensuring the overall smooth functioning of all the activities, including transportation and food without any delay. We thank Deepak George and the team of drivers for ensuring safe and comfortable transportation arrangements.We are thankful to our Vicar Rev. P. J. Jacob, Our Asst. Vicar Rev. Dr. Mervin Boas, our Church pastorate and Diocesan committee members for their wholehearted support and prayers too. The VBS concluded on Sunday with the children taking active roles during the combined worship service and rendering special songs. Towards the end of the Worship service, we had the final celebration where children from each grade performed action songs, skit and choreography. All glory to God. Please continue praying that the Word of God that our children heard during the devotion and class time would mould them into children of the Kingdom of God and help them live life guided by Godly values.Our Sunday School children also won several prizes during the Thalanthulsavam held in Shoranur. Youth FellowshipThe members of youth fellowship come together for youth meeting on every 4th Sunday after English and Malayalam services, respectively. They also come for Bible Study and Prayer fellowship on every 2nd Saturday at 4pm. All are welcome to the prayer cell.On Good Friday, Youth fellowship sponsored and served breakfast for the needy and actively participated in the Good Friday service. By the grace of God, our youth celebrated Easter by distributing Easter eggs as a symbol of reformation and renewal of our Christian life and spread the greatest joy that Jesus Christ is risen. Thanks to all youth members for their participation and prayers . VBS was conducted In our cathedral from April 22 to 28 and our fellowship took various roles under the leadership of Rev. Mervin Shinoj

Boas and Sunday school. Our youth friends were there to teach action songs, conduct games and other activities, prepare refreshments and so on. Special thanks to all the VBS directors (Elizabeth Ipe, Benitta, J W Ipe, V J Assaria) for giving us the privilege to teach and interact with children. It was a wonderful experience especially for our dear youth members. We thank you on behalf of Immanuel youth fellowship and God bless you all abundantly. Special mention, Our achens, church committee, office bearers, senior friends, helpers, Sunday school teachers and parents.On April 27th we conducted our Ernakulum area annual sports meet at UC College,Aluva. We had football, volleyball and cricket. Youth of five churches participated in it. Our cathedral youth won volleyball championship, St.John the Baptist church, Aluva won championship in cricket and Christ church, Elamkulam in football. Congratulations to all the winners. Special thanks to Ernakulam area youth committee members and UC college, Aluva. †

in all your ways." Psalm 91. 11By the grace of God Rev. P,J . Jacob achen tried his best to make us understand the hidden truth in Revelation. The first part of Divyabodhini classes have been completed and all are preparing for the exam. The women's fellowship members gave a farewell to beloved P.J. Jacob achen and Chinnammakochamma. We are very thankful to them for their blessed service among us. The diocesan. level conference will be held on May 6, 7 and 8 at Shornur. Ten of our members are getting ready for the same. The Kalamela at the church level will be conducted in May last week. Competitions will be held mainly in memory test, Bible reading story writing, recitation, group song and fancy dress.Those who are interested please give your name. Please pray for all these activities. †

and monthly accounts were presented during the meeting, the same also was passed by all the members of the fellowship during the meeting.Eye care awareness class and the Sambaram venture which was held during month of March was much praised during the occasion. During the meeting we as a fellowship celebrated together the 42nd Wedding Anniversary of our vicar Rev P J Jacob and Chinamma Kochamma by cutting the cake and sharing the sweetness together. During the occasion Rev Dr Shinoj Boas Achen conveyed his heartfelt wishes to the beautiful couple on their wedding anniversary. The meeting was concluded by closing prayer and benediction. 36 members participated in the monthly meeting.During the month of April Family care fellowship visited four homes and four patients and shared our love and fellowship among them .In His grace we as a fellowship are growing steadily in good strength and will.On Good Friday, at St John CSI church Mulavukad, members of the family care fellowship Mr K D Abraham,Mr Justus Samuel and Mr T M Glancy shared the words from the cross during the service. †Note: Next meeting for the month of May will be held on 19/5/2019

Seniors FellowshipThe Senior fellowship meeting for the month was held on 12th April 2019 in the Cathedral Chapel under the leadership of Rev. Mervin Shinoj Boas . Rev. Shibumon C.K also participated in the communion service. After the communion service, the meeting began with songs, reading of Psalm and prayers.Birthday and Wedding Anniversary celebrants were greeted and remembered in special prayers. Mr. P.C Varkey shared the word of God .The day's programme included Bible Quiz, lucky dip and thambola.The meeting came to a close by 1:00 pm with prayer, benediction and fellowship meal .The next meeting will be held at Immanuel Cathedral Chapel on 10th May 2019 at 10 am with Holy Communion service. All Senior members of the church who are 55 years and above are requested to participate in the programme. †

Immanuel ChoirFor the Cathedral choir, it was a blessed occasion as the choir got the opportunity and privilege to perform special songs on both Hosanna Sunday and Maundy Thursday. The songs commemorating the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ 'Hymns from the Cross' was rendered in a heart touching and soulful manner. The Hosanna day also was made special with the singing of a Malayalam song which reminded about the triumphant entry of Jesus to Jerusalem.On Easter Sunday morning at 7.30 a.m. service, the English service choir performed a very beautiful and meaningful Easter song. †

Farewell to Rev. P. J. Jacob and FamilyThe Cathedral Family organized a befitting farewell ceremony to Rev. P. J. Jacob and Chinnamma Kochamma on May 5, 2019 after the combined service. The congregation well appreciated their impressive ministry for the last two years at the Immanuel Cathedral. All the auxiliary groups presented very interesting and meaningful programs and presentations to felicitate Jacob Achen and Chinnamma Kochamma. The Cathedral wished a very happy, healthy and peaceful retired life to Achen and Kochamma. †

A Word of Welcome to the New Assistant Vicar and the Church Worker The Immanuel Cathedral wholeheartedly welcomed the newly appointed Assistant Vicar Rev. Dn.
