on putting actual clothes. He runs at an above a hundred degrees, just like me. He had a goodexcuse, but you didn’t see me running around half naked.

I walked, well the correct term would be ran to hug Jacob. As soon as I got close enough, Ijumped into his big strong arms, they wrapped around me tightly and the surrounding

warmth blazed hotter. “Jakey, you came!”“I wanted to surprise you Ness” he answered“I’m definitely surprised! Did you tell my parents you were coming? When did you get here? How long are you staying?” I raved, hoping he would stay the whole weekend.“Yeah I told them about it, and they agreed to keep it secret from you. I left early thismorning and I’m staying as long as you’d like Ness”“Well, by the looks of it, I might be here all weekend. So if you want to stay you’re more thenwelcome” I smiled. I was so incredibly happy that nothing could get me down, even if we lostthe game. There was this certain feeling that Jacob transmitted to me when he was around, like everything would be okay.

“Then I’ll stay the whole weekend” he said softly and pecked the top of my head “You betterget going, the game’s about to start” he reminded me, I had totally forgotten about it. It waslike we were in our own little world and everybody and everything around us disappeared.“I’ll see you after the game; I have a few hours before my next one!” I called when I waswalking away.“Sounds good! You’ll do great out there” he called back and went back to the stands.

I missed the whole team peep talk from our coach but in some way I had gotten my ownpersonal peep talk from Jacob and I felt a thousand times better then before, and I was hoping

it would make my playing even better. I had no doubt that we would loose.Shortly after, the game started and I was on the first line-up, but this time I was with the girlsthat didn’t like me very much but I was thankful they were passing me the ball this time.Maybe they figured that I could score them even more points. Every time we had position itwouldn’t get taken away nor would we miss the goal. It was depressing to see the oppositeteam so sullen of their point difference so we let them score a few courtesy points--they had togo home with at least some pride.

The final score was twenty-two to seven. Everybody cheered for us and all my teammates werebursting with energy and excitement, and I joined them with the same amount of excitement

and energy, maybe even more. Both teams aligned into two separate parallel lines in order tohand out the player of the game award for every team. They started with the loosing team. Iknew who would get the award since they only seemed to have one exceptionally good player.I wasn’t really paying attention because I was too busy staring at my support group in thestands--especially Jacob. They were smiling and giving me thumbs up.

Although I wasn’t paying attention I managed to get her name. Kendra Robin steppedforward. She was unusually short with tanned skin that looked like she had maybe just gotten

back from vacation down south. She had light brown hair with one thick blonde streak. Thehead referee handed her metal to her and a photographer took her picture and her blue andsilver braces shined. As she went back to her previous place in line, I could hear the rest of herteam mates giving her congratulations but others were giving her evil sneers and looks frombehind her back. Next came our team. I thought anybody could get the medal because

everybody played especially well. Winning the award wasn’t too important to me, but I wasn’tgoing to complain if I received it.I was delighted when Nicole’s name was called. She got the award and she entirely deserved it.Before we exited the field we shook the hands of our opponents and congratulated them for agood game.

“That was an excellent game girls! I’m so proud of you! Let’s keep it up for our next game atfive. Oh, before I forget there will be University scouts watching the game” our coachenthused once we’d went back to the locker room. Once more, I could feel the energy rise inthe air and everybody was looking forward to maybe attain a scholarship. I didn’t react as the

others. I would go to university more then once in my life, and I wasn’t in any rush. However,I knew my parents would be thrilled if I’d receive one.

The coach made her little rounds talking to some of the players while they were putting on apair of sweets over their uniforms to keep warm. I did the same just to fit in, I wouldn’t catcha cold. I quickly stormed outside the stuffy room; it that faintly smelled like B.O, but it hadbeen ‘girlafied’ because Nicole had sprayed some yummy smelling body spray. I grabbed mybag that rested on the bench and went to meet up with my team--my family.

We had and hour and a half until my next game. After stepping out the locker room, I’d been

surrounded by congratulations and such.“Sweetheart, do you mind if we go out and run a few errands? We’ll be back before two to seeyour game” my father asked as we stepped out the complex.“Absolutely, go ahead. You didn’t have to ask dad. I’ll be fine” I assured them “Jake and I willfind something to spend the time. Just take your time.”He grinned and let go of my mothers back and slipped his hand between hers. “If you needanything, just call. We won’t be gone long” he reminded me as he they started walkingtowards the parking lot.

“So...what do you wanna do?” he asked smiling, as he crossed his arms across his chest. I

pondered at maybe going back to the hotel or watching the next soccer game, but neither wasvery appealing.“How about we go for a walk?” I suggested.“Sure, why not” he answered as he reached to grab my bag that I had carelessly left at my feet.He slung it over his left shoulder and moved forward. “Come on, soccer star” he called. Islowly ran to catch up to him.

We walked threw a park that was a few blocks south from the complex. We’d came across asmall duck pond and a playground. The children and parents that had decided to spend aquiet afternoon in the park were either playing on the play structure or throwing little bits of dried bread to the ducks. I watched the children slide down the twirling slides and swingingon the chain swings. Laughing as their parents chased them around playfully. I realized that if

I were normal I’d be doing the same thing, just like all the other six year olds.

I remembered the times that Jacob and my parents would bring me to the small playgroundin town. When I slid down the slide, somebody was always at the other end ready to catch meand lift me in the air. Same goes as for being pushed on the swings, there was alwayssomebody their pushing me with gentle force. My childhood memories were short.

We continued walking at a regular pace threw the area. We always walked closely together, our arms brushing together. Most of the time we would talk and joke around, or we would

silently walk along and it wouldn’t feel awkward.“Before I forget, my friends car has some repairs to be done. She doesn’t really want to pay afortune to get it fixed at that rip off shop in town. So, I suggested that you fix it. Can you?” Iasked

He sighed, as if he was going to refuse. “Yeah, I’ll do it. I’m free all week. Maybe you couldhelp me too. Catch up on the time we lost last week” he chuckled“Yeah, you’d love for me to get my hands all gross and hear me freak out, right? Well, M.Black, I’m not that kind of girl” I defended, as he continued to laugh. His right arm rose and were brought up to my shoulders, then he pulled me closer to his side.

“I know you’re not that kind of girl. But, I’d save you from the engine monster if it dared toattack you”“Ha-ha, very funny.” I goofed as I lightly punched his side “So it’s settled. She’ll drop off hercar Monday morning at my house and then I’ll help you afterwards. Only if you promise notto make fun of me” I advised

“Hmm…?” he pondered as he tapped his finger to his chin. “Deal”We had only gone a short distance when I’d realized what he’d said before, “Catch up on thetime we lost last week”“Jake, where were you all week?” I asked, worrying that I was being too nosy. “I was starting

to worry” I followed quietlyHe tilted his head downwards and let out a breath “Things just came up, it’s nothing youshould worry about” he simply answered.

There wasn’t a point in arguing and asking me what exactly did ‘come up’There were two parts to this. One part, the nosy part, of me desperately wanted to knowbecause I felt like I had a right to know. The other was telling the nosy one that maybe it was best that I not know.

We’d successfully circle the entire park and made our way back towards the complex. We bothhadn't spoken since my last comment. My father’s Lexus hadn't yet returned. I glancedtowards my wrist were a sports watch was posed indicating that nearly an hour had passed.Spectators were slowly starting to move out of the stadium. In the midst of people, Jacob and

I squeezed threw the doors and made our way inside. I recognized a few faces of other teamsfrom previous games. Strangers would stare at me. Men in aw, rather as woman would scan totry to finds flaws. It was the same with Jacob, men jealous of his height and woman wouldlook up in aw.I always had to laugh.“Well, I better go get warmed up for the game…” I awkwardly mumbled. “I’ll see you after, kay?”He nodded and smiled, “Yeah, I’ll see you on the field. Good luck sweets”

Before I left he pulled me towards his chest and hugged me. Every time he did so, it would

send a spark down my spine, telling me that something was all right, some sign…It was a special feeling that wasn’t surged threw me whenever one of my friends or familywould hug me. It was magically different. Before I could walk away, he grabbed my arm and stopped me dead in my tracks. For a secondhe looked like he wanted to tell me something more then what he did, but it just wouldn’tblurt out.“Wait...you forgot your bag” he said as he was slinging the gym bag off his shoulder andhanded it to me.I griped the strap and put it over my shoulder. “Thanks”, then I disappeared threw the crowd.

Just as I was nearing the corner towards the locker room I spotted somebody that seemedstrangely familiar. He was talking to one of the referees, then was left alone by the door afterthe conversation had ended. He turned around and now facing me. It was Johnny, the guy I’djust met the day before at school; the new kid. I changed my course and walked over to him, when I was sure he was looking into my direction I waved to him. He smiled and waved back.

“Hey Johnny, what are you doing here?” I asked as I stood in front of him.“I’m scorekeeping, a couple games. My sister’s playing for the younger division. Are youplaying?” he still had a little hint shyness in his voice, but it wasn’t like it had been when Ifirst spoke to him yesterday. I was glad he felt more comfortable around me.

“Yeah, I’m playing next”“Well, coincidentally I’m score keeping next, so I guess I’ll see you on the field” he smiled. Icouldn’t help but smile back, it was as if his smile was contagious.“You definitely will, and I’ll see you at your score keeping table!”

“Sure will” he grinned“I’ll see you soon” I said before we both started walking in our own separate direction.

The hard soccer ball was kicked at exactly five by one of our team members; we had gainedposition because of a successful lucky guess at coin toss. I had to admit that this team was alittle tougher then the previous one and I was fearing for my teammates. They all looked quiteaggressive and much larger then all of us. They of course weren’t a match for me, althoughagainst my girls, there was a small possibility of getting stomped.

A shot of relief surged threw my body when I found out that they weren’t as fast and I couldout run them easily. Since I was ahead all the time I would try to look out for one of my teammates so I could pass them the ball so they could score. I didn’t want to be know as a ball hogand make all those girls that already dislike me add to there disliking me.

Thanks to that advantage we were able to defeat them easily with a high-low scoring. Afterthe game all the girls were sweating and breathing hard. I seemed to stick out more then eversince I wasn’t doing either of those things. They handed out the player of the game medal to

Julie and I wasn’t surprised at all, she was the best defensive player on the team and I was

happy for her win. There were twenty minutes between then and the next game so I wentover to talk to Johnny who was sitting at a table with scoreboard controls in front of him. Helooked extremely jaded and trying his best to stay awake, but his eyes perked up when he sawme walking towards him.

I sat down on a hard folding chair that was beside him and started chatting with him for awhile. The next two teams were starting to warm up on the field soon after. By thisconversation he had totally broken from his shy shell and opened up. Briefly talking about hisfamily and all his interests, I was surprised that he was the only one talking but I was gladsince I was able to get a good look into his life. I now knew for a fact that he was a really good

guy and really sweet, plus he shared the same interests as me. Our conversation wasinterrupted by Jacob.

“Hey” he said in his protective tone.“Hi Jake” this must have been the time for introductions, better start now. “Johnny this is

Jacob, Jake this is Johnny.” They both nodded their heads and said hey, I had to admit that  Johnny had been much more polite then Jacob. Why did guys have to be so protective, especially Jacob, I was only talking to a friend from school “Johnny just moved to Forks-- hisdad got transferred here for the police service” I continued, I didn’t want to stay in awkwardsilence.

“Well…Welcome to Forks” Jacob said still with his protective tone.“Thanks, do you go to Forks High School too?” Johnny asked, I could read his expression. Hewas trying to figure out how we knew each other and was totally taken by how huge Jakewas.“Nah, I’m out of school. Besides I live on the La Push res a couple miles out of Forks”

Johnny nodded.“Ness, we better get going, Bells and Edward are waiting in the car.”

“Oh...Well, I’ll see you tomorrow morning, how about we meet at nine am tomorrow at therestaurant in the hotel.”“Sounds great, I’ll see you then!”“Bye!”

I ran to the locker rooms that were now empty and put on my sweats, hoddie and grabbed mybag. Jake was leaning against the cement wall outside the locker room waiting for me.“So you’re going to breakfast with this guy tomorrow?” he asked, and I could sense the hint of jealousy in his voice.“Yeah, I am.” I didn’t want to say do you have a problem with that since it sounded so cliché.He was talking long deep breaths, I looked back to see him trying to calm himself down. Hedidn’t say anything more.Werewolves had to keep their temper under control or, well all hell could break loose. Jacobhad never completely lost his temper around me, but sometimes his jealousy made me thinkthat yes, all hell would break loose.

I really wanted to know why he had such a big problem with this.

The car was idling in front of the soccer complex, both of us slipped in the back seat and assoon as the click of my seat belt was heard my dad stepped on the gas pedal.“Jesh Dad, this isn’t Forks--its Seattle! More people equals more cars, and more cars equalmore chances of accidents!” I commented from the backseat slightly frantic. He chuckled “Oh relax darling, I’ve never had a ticket or been in an accident in my entire life”he tried to convince me“Edward, she is right” my mom helped me out

“Bella, Love, even if we did get into an accident, it wouldn’t be a big deal.Well, only for the

people in the other vehicle” he unsuccessfully tried to convince us both, well I didn’t knowabout my mom for sure.I spoke up from the back seat “That’s great for you guys...but what about me?” I said shyly. In the rear-view mirror I saw my dads eyes close, and he looked poignant. The vehicleautomatically slowed down. I could now breathe easier. Both my hands were on my lap. Jacob’s right hand was perched on the seat’s back, histouching almost touching my shoulder. My phone started buzzing in my pocket, I reached inside my sweaters pocket and grabbed mycell phone; it indicated I had one new text message.

Ren, were r u? We like were looking 4 u @ the complex? Anyway, we’re all meeting in the hotel suite@ 7!C ya!

Nicole texted me a reminder for tonight. Usually when you go to out of town tournaments allthe girls share rooms.“Daddy, did you make the arrangements for the hotel suite for tonight?” I asked

Page 8: Morning Star :Chapter 2

8/9/2019 Morning Star :Chapter 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/morning-star-chapter-2 8/25

“Yes sweetheart, the room is ready whenever you are ready. If you’d like, you girls can ordersome room service” he suggested with a grin. My dad loved to spoil me rotten as well as therest of my family did. For us, money was no object. It was something we had unlimitedamounts of. With Carlisle being a doctor for over a century and Alice being able to predictwhich lottery numbers would come up, we were practically set for life, but more like eternity.

“Your sure, I don’t want you guys paying too much for this” I was reluctant; sure I lovedbeing able to afford expensive materials but I felt uncomfortable when somebody would spenda ridiculous amount of money on me.“Its nothing honey, and its our pleasure to do this for you and your friends- you all work sohard, you must indulge and splurge once and a while. It’s healthy!” he joked.“Okay, so…where’s Jake going to stay” I asked about another sleeping arrangement. This time my mom answered “Again, don’t worry about it. We knew he was coming so we gothim a room for tonight”I turned to Jacob “You sure you’ll be okay, I totally forgot that I had to do that tonight.” he

cut me off before I could continue“Ness, I’m old enough to take care of myself and I’ll be okay. I have to catch up on some sleepanyways. You are going to have fun with all your friends tonight and I don’t want you toworry about me”I think if he told me to jump off a bridge with him I would do it since he was that convincingand trustworthy.

Jake and I were two puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together, two DNA strands, peanut butterand jelly, macaroni and cheese, the moon and the night. Just two things that went perfectlywell together.

The next thing I knew we were already at the main entrance of the hotel. I grabbed my soccerbag that was on the floor and slid out of the back seat. Before I stepped out of the car Icheeked the clock on the dashboard, it was 6:30. I only had thirty minutes to get ready fortonight. As soon as I closed the door, my father raced away to go park the car.

It was heavily pouring rain so we quickly made our way inside the hotel lobby. My momwalked over to the front desk to check Jacob into his room. The two of us stepped away andwalked towards the elevator.“Thanks for coming Jake, its means so much to me that you’re here. I’m just sorry that wecouldn’t hang out”

“Don’t worry about it, and I wouldn’t have missed this for anything. Get a good night sleeptonight and relax. You’ll play great tomorrow. I’ll see you tomorrow at the game”He pecked the top of my head like he always did when he said goodbye, and every time itmade me tingle. The elevator ride to the twelfth floor was slow since I was awfully sure it was stopping at everysingle floor.Come on! I could take the stairs and I would get there faster I thought to myself.

Page 9: Morning Star :Chapter 2

My parent’s hotel suite was empty, but full of loneliness. I went into the bathroom andjumped inside for a quick shower. A minute later I heard the door open and close accompaniedby quiet chatter. I lathered my long hair with sweet smelling shampoo and conditioner andquickly rinsed it out once I was done. I turned off the water and wrapped myself in a largeivory towel and used another to dry my hair. The door opened up to the bedroom. My mom

was already at work putting my overnight stuff into a smaller bag. She had also already laidout a pair of casual jeans and a baby blue stretch cotton camisole with lace detailing. This waswhy I loved when my mom would dress me, but sometimes under the influence of Alice andRose she would pick out something way more fashion appropriate.

While I put on my undergarments then my jeans and shirt, and pulled the brush threw mystill damp hair. My mom gathered my bag of toiletries and my soccer uniform that was in thebathroom and put it inside my soccer bag. I glanced at the clock--I still had fifteen minutesuntil people would start arriving to the suite. I grabbed both of my bags and went into theother room where my father was waiting.

“Here are the room keys for the suite, if you need anything just call and I’ll get it for you or if you need any help whatsoever I’ll be there in no time and…”“Dad, I know, I know. You’ve told me a millions times. If there’s any sort of emergency I’ll callyou. Relax--its one night”He pulled my towards him and hugged my tightly and kissed my forehead “Yes I know, butits one night that you wont be under my watch, one night-”“Dad…” I warned him“Sorry, I suppose I’m just worrying myself. Well, you better get going; the suite is on thehighest floor and its number sixteen-oh-three. Be safe, I love you”“Love you too daddy” I smiled

My mom was immediately at my side and wound her little arms around me “Have a goodtime sweetheart, I love you”“Love you too momma”

The elevator ride to the sixteenth floor was much shorter then my previous elevator ride up.As I stepped off the elevator I saw that this floor was lovelier in appearance then all the othersin the building. There were only six suites on this floor and the doors were far apart. That wasa good sign…not.

I swiped my card and the light flickered green and the door slowly opened. My jaw fell to thefloor when I saw the enormous size of the suite. For this size I would have to do someexploring. To my left was the bathroom which had gold, marble and tile all over, threw thebathroom I could access what I could assume as the master bedroom with an enormous Kingsized bed, much like the one I had at home, and a flat screen television. I was surprised onhow much this room looked like my bedroom, but it had that hotel feel to it, not the homeysensation. From there were too French doors that opened up to a large living room completewith a gas fireplace and a half circle leather couch with another big screen television. The

Page 10: Morning Star :Chapter 2

kitchen and dinning room were just next to it. There were grocery bags pilled up on themarble counter tops accompanied by a small note

   Renesmee

Your mother and I figured that you and your friends would like to snack on something this evening. We took the liberty to   pick a few things for you and your peers. Enjoy!   PS: Cheek the refrigerator

Love Always   Mom and Dad

I set the note down and dug threw the plastic bags. They were full of yummy and deliciousfoods that aren’t exactly what you called healthy, but then again sometimes you had let loose.

Chips, chocolates, and candy’s, filled the bags. I looked into the refrigerator as directed in thenote and found soft drinks and two gallons of ice cream. I would definitely have to thank myparents for this, and my friends were sure to greatly appreciate it. I continued walking aroundthe suite to find one more bedroom with two Queen sized beds, another bathroom and acouch that turned into a bed. In total there were nineteen girls on our team.

It was five minutes before exactly seven o’clock when somebody knocked on the door. Sincenobody was around I preformed a little vampire move, I ran to answer the door.“Hey Renesmee!” both Nicole and Julie said as I opened the door. They were both carryingover night bags similar to mine, except there’s weren’t designer (another gift from Esme)

“Hey girls, come on it” I greeted as I led them into the suite.

Just like me, they too were in shock when they saw the size of the suite. Soon after therearrival girls started to arrive in pairs and small groups. Samantha told me that nine girls haddecided not to come tonight. I was thankful that they were the girls that didn’t like me much.I had claimed the master bedroom along with Nicole and Julie. Four other girls settled intothe other bedroom and two others were assigned the sofa bed.

Everybody was really hungry so we found the room service menu’s and ordered some food.Everybody was grateful that it was all on my father’s credit card since room service is always soexpensive. When our food came we all gathered around the large dining room table, talkingabout various subjects.

“Renesmee it’s so nice of Carlisle to pay for all this. You’re so lucky to have him!” one of thegirls commented. Carlisle was the major sponsor for the soccer team. He’d paid for almosteverything along with the school, he was also a big sponsor to the school too. Sometimes I feltlike saying that Carlisle and Esme weren’t really my adoptive parent and that my real parents

Page 11: Morning Star :Chapter 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/morning-star-chapter-2 11/25

hadn’t died many years ago…but I couldn’t because it would be dangerous, way toodangerous.“Yeah, I definitely am” I agreed“So where is he, we haven’t seen him in a while?” another girl asked“He’s on an Island with Esme on vacation, it’s just me, Bella and Edward at home,

everybody’s gone”“You seem fairly close to them?” she added, I didn’t know how to answer the question withoutgiving too much information.“Yeah were really close, I don’t know why though, I think it’s because they remind me a lot of my own parents although I don’t remember them much. We all just bond really well likeactual family does, isn’t that what real family’s do? Even though we’re all adopted, they’ve allbeen together for most of there lives. They all consider themselves as real, blood related familyand I think that’s really cool. ” the explanation ended up just coming out much longer then Iwas picturing in my head, but I was telling (somewhat) the truth.

“That’s good, that you can all be a family, plus there all really nice…and beautiful!” Nicoleadded, her comment fit her personality well; she was always looking for the looks of people. Iknew she had a secret crush on Emmett. Once when she’d come over to my house, he winkedat her when he passed by and she’d gotten all excited. They all started laughing in agreement to her comment.“I think everybody agrees with that!” Samantha added, another girl our team.It turned out that the conversation had become a question period about me and my family. If Ididn’t answer now it would just come back later on, so might as well go on with it now.

The questions varied to why they were “together” and why they still stay with Carlisle even

thought there well into there early adult years. I answered as truthfully as I could againwithout giving away too much information. There were also questions about Jacob. Those Icould answer and not worry about giving away too many details.“So is Jacob here?” a girl that I didn’t know as well asked.“Yeah he is, he surprised me this morning at our first game”They all started awing “That is so sweet” Nicole said“I wish my boyfriend would do that” another girl added. I looked at her strangely becauseshe’d mentioned the word ‘boyfriend’I sighed “All I can say it that…I’m really lucky to have him. He’s the greatest best-friend Icould ever ask for”

“Well, I wish I had a friend as sweet...and hot as him!” Nicole added, she was the only singleone of the group. They all giggled at her comment.I had a gut feeling that they’d ask more question, only they’d get more in dept and private. Iwasn’t ready to conquer that yet.

After the question period was over we went over to the kitchen and built our own ice creamSundaes. My parents had bought everything you would want on ice cream. We all sat on the

circular couch and ate our gourmet sundaes with music playing in the background. When acertain song would come on we would all start dancing and singing along. More food was tocome. We found bowls in the kitchen cupboards and filled them with chips and candies. Weall moved to the living room and popped in a DVD; a sappy romantic comedy that I had seenone too many times but couldn’t stop myself from watching it when it played on the

television.

“Hey guys, I’m gonna go outside for a minute, need some fresh air” Nicole said“ I have to callmy mom”“Do you want us to wait to start the movie?” I asked“Nah, you guys go ahead, I’ll only be a while” she walked towards the sliding doors that led tothe balcony. It was a chilly night, the cool air whooshed into the suite and all made us shiver, even me to my surprise. The opening credits slowly started, and the initial situation was put in play. Everybody wasdrooling over the lead character, and making comments about his appearance. I had to admit

myself that he was attractive, but couldn’t be compared to other people I knew.

Just when the two leads meet and start falling in love, we heard an ear-splitting scream of paincoming from outside. Everybody looked towards the door. I leaped up from my seat a littlefaster then I was allowed to in front of people, thankfully nobody seemed to notice. Everybodywas panicked; I tried to calm them. “Guys stay here; I’ll go check it out”I ran, at normal human pace, to the sliding doors that led to the balcony. The smell of freshblood surrounded the air around me. My nose tingled at the mouth-watering smell, but I hadthe restraint. Nicole was gasping on the ground, bleeding. Shards of the glass table wereexposed all around her. I kneeled at her side to inspect her injuries. The smell of her pouring

blood hit my nose and made it tingle. I’d never been exposed to this much blood...I did mybest to hold my breath. To my surprise, the attraction to drink her blood wasn’t as powerful asI thought it would have been. Me kneeling down caused some of my clothing to be stainedwith the crimson liquid.“Nikki, are you okay? What happened?” I asked flustered

She was still gasping, fighting to breath “I…don’t…know…it…all…happened…so fast”I looked around me to find something to use to stop the bleeding. I took off my sweater andripped it to pieces and wrapped it around her left forearm and told her to hold another pieceattached to her abdomen. I could tell that her right leg was broken.

“Okay, just relax, your going to be fine” I told her. One of my hands was covered with blood, applying pressure on her forearm, the other quickly pulled out my cell phone from my jeanpocket and pressed the one on speed-dial. On the first ring my father answered “Renesmee issomething wrong?” he asked quickly“Daddy I need your help! Somebody got hurt very badly. She’s bleeding from two largelacerations in her left arm and her stomach. I also think she has a broken leg. I’m trying tostop the bleeding as much as I can…” I rushed threw every word, to human ears it would be awhole big babble, but my father could hear it clearly.

“I’m on my way! Call Jacob” he muttered before closing the phone. I pressed the two onspeed-dial; Jacob answered after the first ring as well.“Nessie, something up?” he asked“Yeah, something happened up here. One of the girls got really hurt. I called my da-Edwardand he’s coming up, but he told me to call you”

“Okay- I’ll be right over. Bye”“Bye” I closed the phone and slid it back into my pocket.

I could see that her eyes were slowly starting to shut. “No, Nicole don’t close your eyes, staywith me” I had remembered that it was important to keep somebody that was severely injuredconscious. Then her eyes opened again.I had to catch Nicole up on what was going on “Edwards coming to help you, okay? He knowwhat to do, and we’ll bring you to the hospital” I tried to be as calm as possible. Crimson redstains were all over her clothes, as well as mine. They were soaking threw the ripped fabricthat I had put over the larger lacerations.

I looked to my right were I had left the door open. I could see the girls aligned by the doorlooking in scare. One of them looked like she was about to go into shock.

I heard the front door open and close. The girls all moved to the side and he strode by. Thensomebody was at my side, my dad. Since he was a full vampire, the sent of blood wasirresistible but after much time around my mother, it was manageable and the smell of blooddidn’t make him loose control.“I did everything I could; there weren’t any shards of glass stuck in the cuts and they seemclean. I stayed clear from her leg since I knew it was probably broken” I updated him on whatI had done

“Yes, you’re correct, it is broken. You’ve done well with trying to obstruct the blood flow. Wewill have to take her to the hospital, but we will need something temporary. Can you get thefirst aid kit that’s inside the kitchen”I nodded, got up and directed myself towards the kitchen. I looked over to the sitting area; allthe girls had moved over and were sitting at their previous spots on the couch. My mother waswith them, trying to calm them and telling them that everything would be all right. I quicklyfound the first aid kit and returned it to my father. He wrapped both the laceration tightly with gauze and cleaned the other little scratches withrubbing alcohol. She flinched as the liquid touched her skin.

Nicole’s breathing had evened out, but she still looked hazy.“Do you remember what happened to you Nicole?” my father questioned her“No, everything happened so fast…I was talking to my mom…on the phone…then” I couldtell she was struggling to remember what happened “Then something…pushed me reallyhard towards the wall and then... I fell on the table and it broke. I screamed…I don’tremember what happened after that”

“We all heard her scream, that’s when I came to see what had happened” I added

Page 14: Morning Star :Chapter 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/morning-star-chapter-2 14/25

My father was putting everything together in his mind, trying to find a plausible cause forhow it had happened. “Okay, are you parents here?” he asked Nicole“No, there home…I came here with Julie”“Okay then, I called the ambulance. They ought to be here shortly, we will meet themdownstairs, I will carry you. Renesmee, you and Bella stay here. Make sure everybody stays in

the room; it is much safer for you all to stay together here. Inform Jacob on the situation…also tell him to keep lookout. I will accompany Nicole to the emergency room, can you callher parents to inform them on what has happened as well, and can you get me her wallet. Shemust have some medical information or some sort of drivers license” He ordered.

I nodded and swiftly power walked to the master bedroom where I had seen her put down herthings. I dug threw her hand bag until I found her wallet and made sure that there wassuitable personal information contained. I ran back outside. I shifted to my right to makeroom for him to carry her out. With one prompt, effortless movement he slid one arm underher back and the other beneath both of her legs; he clutched her to his side as if he was

supporting a child in his arms.

When he stepped back into the hotel suite gasps were heard from my teammates. In thedistance I could clearly hear the resonance of the ambulance’s siren. My father strode quicklyto the door; I followed him to open the door and followed him to the elevator. The elevator doors opened just as we had arrived, Jacob was inside. He looked worried andtense. His fist were clenched at his sides, almost shaking. There must have been an exchangeof words between my father and Jacob, since Jacob was starring at him and then my fathernodded. Just another secret that would be kept away from me...“Jake…” I choked, he quickly strode out of the elevator and put his arm around me

protectively. My dad entered the elevator and pressed the “L” on the many buttons.“Jacob, keep an eye out this evening. I trust you to keep everyone safe” he spoke withauthority. Just before the doors were about to shut he said one more thing “Renesmee…becareful” he cautioned seriously

It had been my first moment to really think in detail on what had happened- processingcautiously. It was now my turn to inform Jacob, nobody was around and there were things Icouldn’t state in front of the others. It was difficult to manage words to escape my mouth, Iwas on the verge of tears and I was awfully positive that I would go into shock in anymoment.

“What happened, tell me everything Ness” he uttered with much seriousness; he looked me inthe eyes with such fierce intensity that it frightened me to a certain level.“Something seemed to attack Nicole, we don’t what caused it. All I know is that I heard herscream and I rushed to find her on the balcony floor bleeding and hurt. I tried to stop thebleeding as much as I could, and then I called my dad then you.”He thought about it for a second “Until we find out for sure what happened, I’ll keep an eyeon you girls and I’m not letting you out of my sight. We wouldn’t want anybody else to get

Page 15: Morning Star :Chapter 2

hurt…especially you.” He took my hand between both of his; the warmth sent sparks threwmy fingers. The feeling that he sent threw my hands was that of comfort and reassurance.

Once we got back into the suite everybody was talking amongst themselves; all talking aboutthe recent incident. I was also suddenly aware that my clothes were blood soaked, I could see

my mother slightly tense at the sight of me, but then relaxed. As soon as they noticed that Ihad re-entered they started questioning me.“Renesmee, what happened? Is Nikki gonna be okay?” Julie asked worriedly, they were bestfriends.“I’m not sure what happened before I went to help out, but she’s going to be fine. She’s lostsome blood and has a broken leg, that’s the extent to her injuries. In the meantime, we shouldstay here together, it’s safer”They all nodded in agreement but with a slight hint of confusion. Just now they had noticed

Jacob standing beside me; personally I would have noticed him the moment he would havewalked in.

I strode out of the room quietly to change my clothes. I dug threw my bag until I found a pairof cotton pyjama bottoms and a grey thin strapped camisole. I put my now ruined clothes intoa bag used for dirty laundry. I would probably be forced to burn it as soon as we got backhome. Then I went into the bathroom and scrubbed my skin that was stained with blood withwater and soap.I quickly returned to the living room.“So...Jacob, we were just talking about you…you know, before the whole thing happened”Amy added, bashing her eye lids. Forgetting for a while what had just happened. Maybe thatwas best.

Jacob had a cute little boy smile “Oh really? I hope you don’t mind that I stay with you girls

tonight”“Not at all, we’d love your company and protection” another girl added

Julie interrupted “Girls…maybe we should go to bed, it’s already ten and we’ve got an earlygame in the morning…and after everything that’s happened...it would be best” she soundedgloomy, I could tell she was still bothered. The girls all silently agreed. They all said there goodnights to each other, along with myself,

Jacob and my mom; then they all directed themselves to the bedrooms that they hadpreviously called. I didn’t follow, I stayed in the living room along with Jake and my mom; wehad things to discuss.

Julie was the last one to leave, when she finally rose from her position on the couch she spoke

“Are you coming Renesmee?” she asked since I had moved from standing to sitting on thecouch beside Jacob.“No, I have to do something before, you go ahead” my internal notes reminded me that I wassupposed to call Nicole’s mom. I also wanted to stay up to get the call from my father with anupdate on her condition. She nodded and slowly walked towards the French doors leading into the master bedroom, sheclosed the white, frosted glassed doors. Only the three of us were left in the room that now feltmuch larger.

I shifted my weight to my left side and reached in my back pocket for my phone. I scrolledthrew my contact list until I found the number I was looking for. Calling somebody at thistime always made me uncomfortable and nervous, I wouldn’t know if they would pick up or if they would give me heck for calling late in the evening. The phone rang twice; then it was

answered” Hello?” a soft, kind voice spoke.“Mrs. Smith? It’s Renesmee Cullen. How are you this evening?”“Well, hello dear. I’m doing just fine. Aren’t you supposed to be with Nicole in Seattle for thesoccer tournament? Is everything okay?” she asked, I had no idea whatsoever how I wouldbreak the unfortunate news.“Well,…something happened tonight. Nicole…got attacked. We’re not quite sure whatattacked her though. She was on the balcony finishing talking to you, then we heard a screamand I rushed to help her. I called my brother, Edward and he helped her until the ambulancecame. He has accompanied her there. She has a few cuts from a broken glass table and has afractured leg but there doesn’t seem to be any other damage.” I took a deep breath; giving

people bad news had never been one of my forte’s.“Oh my goodness! Please, just please tell me that she’ll be all right” she begged“She’ll be fine…I promise” I spoke almost without hesitation. “As I was saying, my brother iswith her at the hospital and will call me with any further updates and I will make sure toupdate you as well if you wish”I heard her sob “Oh will you, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank-you Renesmee, foreverything you’ve done- and I very much appreciate your brothers help as well. Don’t hesitatecalling me at the middle of the night. Again, thank-you”“It’s my pleasure Mrs. Smith. I will call you as soon as I get an update” I encouraged“Okay then, I’ll talk to you later, bye” she said before hanging up.

I pressed the end button and placed my phone on the coffee table, it was now at easy reach. Both Jacob and my mom were starring at me “How did she take it?” Jacob asked“It’s hard to judge how a person took it when they heard there daughter just got attacked andis currently in the hospital over the phone” I murmured

My mother swiftly strode away, she was now standing directly in front of the window; hermind seemed to be in another place, distant. She too seemed worried. Her liquid topaz eyeswere looking out the big windows, overlooking the million lights of downtown Seattle andgazing at the night’s stars over the horizon, the skies twinkling lights along with the shinningmoon.

“Momma…you okay?” I asked softlyShe quickly looked away from the window and looked at me “I’m fine sweetheart, I’m worriedabout you, are you okay? You’re taking this too well, most people would be going into shock”I shook my head side ways and tightly close my eyes hoping it would stop the tears that Iknew were coming. If my father had been there, there would have been further explanation tobe done on my behalf. “No, I’m fine” I lied.

Page 17: Morning Star :Chapter 2

8/9/2019 Morning Star :Chapter 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/morning-star-chapter-2 17/25

She nodded, knowing that there was something wrong but sensed that I didn’t want to talkabout it at the moment. She simply let it go and turned back to face the window for one lastlook. She reinstalled herself on the couch opposite to are’s. She sat in a way much like mine; her feettucked under her, her elbow resting on the arm rest. Motionless, just like a perfect marble

statue.

It was late; almost midnight when we received the call that we had all been waiting for. Beforemy phone had started vibrating on the coffee table my eyes had started to close, my eye lidsfelt like they weighed a hundred pounds each. My yawning had become frequent and it hadrubbed off on Jacob. They both tried to persuade me to get some rest “No” I insisted “ Ipromised Nicole’s mom that I would call her when we got more news, so thats what I’m goingto do!” I insisted. They got the hint that now was not the time to argue.I quickly leaped from my spot and picked up the phone.

“Dad” I answered quickly“Renesmee, what are you sill doing up?” Oh no, not this again “I was hoping to catch yourmother”Then why would you have called my phone? I asked myself “I told Mrs. Smith that I would call her when we got further news on her state. How is she?”He let go the fact that I was still up past midnight when I had to be up early the nextmorning. “She’ll be fine. They’ve taken X-ray's and they show that she did in-fact fracture herleg. The loss of blood was minor because your attempts to stop it. You helped saved her lifeyou know” he remarked “Renesmee, without you she would have lost much more blood thenshe had. I’m proud of you”

I had no idea what to say. I was happy that my friend would be fine, safe and sound. Yet, togain the credit for saving her life was a little bit more then I was able to handle.“That’s great, I’m glad she’s okay. Thanks Dad, for taking care of this. Without you she mighthave been dead, you deserve some credit too” I added, not wanting to take all the creditability.

Before we ended our conversation, he asked to speak to my mother. I passed her my phoneand she went into the other room.I sighed a sigh of relief. I could now breath easier, and I could get some sleep. I rememberedthat I still had to call Mrs. Smith with the update. My plans to catch some sleep had been putoff for a little while more. My parents were talking too long for my liking…

Once my mother finally came back into the room and handed me the phone, I mechanicallydialled Nicole’s home phone number. The conversation between Mrs. Smith and I was brief. Both her and I were tired, but thrilled that Nicole would be fine. She announced that firstthing in the morning she would be driving to Seattle. She thanked me another few times andthen we said our goodbye’s.

Page 18: Morning Star :Chapter 2

Never had I been happier to set my phone down on the table. I exhaled deeply and threw myhead back and closed my eyes for the fraction of a second.“Sweetheart, you should go rest in your bed” my mother encouragedHalf asleep, half awake I groaned and mumbled “No, I’m too tired…” All my body felt like ithad doubled in weight, making it impossible to get up and hop into the bed.

My attention was turned towards my left when I heard a semi-ground shaking snore. Igrinned; Jacob was sleeping adorably on the opposite side of the couch from me. Temptationmade me curl up nice and close to him, lying my head just under his right shoulder. His smellmade my heart flutter, to me he smelled like a mixture of cinnamon hearts, the sweet smells of the forest with a hint of cologne. With him, I didn’t need a blanket.

My eyes lids were now closing quickly. My movement must have woken him up, since his armwas now tight around my shoulder. I smiled in comfort--it felt so normal to be close to him.My eyes were now completely closed, and I was hoping they would stay like this for a longtime.

I was running and running--faster and faster. I kept looking back, but I couldn’t see anything.Although, for some reason I still kept sprinting threw the trees. Frightened and panicked, tears streaming down against my cheek. I tripped on a tree root and I was sent flying in the airand landed a few feet away, hitting a tree as I hit the ground with a soft thump. I wasshrieking in pain, the sound bouncing off the Forrest walls. Then what I had been runningaway from appeared threw the bushes. Now it went black...and I awoke, to my surprise calmly.

The curtains were closed, keeping the rays from the early morning sunlight from shinning inthe large room. Low voices were coming from behind me. I was no longer leaning against

Jacob, my head was pressed against a soft couch pillow, and I was boiling from the blanketthat was now covering me whole body. My body temperature alone was enough to keep mewarm. I sat myself up and stretched, then kicked the burning blanket off. I got up and walkedover to the kitchen, that’s were most of the chatter was coming from.“Look who’s up!” Amy announced, making everybody turn to look at me. There were trays of pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and breakfast sausages, fruit salad and pitchers of chocolatemilk and orange juice; it all looked delicious, and smelled fantastic! Jacob was at the head of

the table, as usual stuffing his face with the food. He was no doubt socializing with all the girlsthat surrounded the table. My mom was standing in the kitchen reading the news paper withher prop--a mug full of freshly brewed french vanilla coffee.“Hey Ness--we’ve got tons of food if you want some!” Jacob added “And its really good too!”Taking another bite from his plate. It seemed appealing but then I remembered I had made plans for breakfast with Johnny.Hopefully I hadn’t over slept and missed it.

Page 19: Morning Star :Chapter 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/morning-star-chapter-2 19/25

“I wish I could, but I have plans with somebody” I answered. “More for you eat then”Iglanced at the clock on the microwave- it was eight thirty am, I had another thirty minutesuntil I had to meet him downstairs.“Oh...right” Jacob rolled his eyes jealously “Yeah, I guess…”

I walked over to the kitchen were my mother was. She flashed me a quick smile “How did yousleep?” she askedOther then my odd dream “Great” I answered. “Although, almost died of heat exhaustionwith that blanket”She pushed the mug of fresh coffee towards me. Mothers instinct I guess; I still needed a littlepick me up. I look a sip from the hot coffee and the caffeine was sent everywhere in my body--I had to be careful of my caffeine intake.“So, did you get any updates from your brother? Is Nikki okay?” Julie asked, her eyes werehighlighted by dark circles under her eyes.“Well, I got a phone call yesterday night at around midnight from my brother; he said that

she’ll be fine. She only has fractured leg and she lost some blood.”My mother added “He called again when you were all sleeping and said that she would be outof the hospital in the next few days. She’s awake and well and she sends her good spirits foryou to play well today”

We all smiled “Speaking of the game; what time is it at?” somebody asked“Oh, I called the coach and told her what had happened with Nicole. She then contacted theorganizers of the tournament and the game that was supposed to be held at eleven will now beheld at twelve thirty.” My mom confirmed

They all nodded and went back to talking amongst themselves and eating their food.I took another gulp of energizing coffee and strode off towards the master bedroom, closingthe glass doors behind me. I took out my soccer uniform and stripped down. As I was puttingon my shorts I examined the room. Nothing had changed from the last night; the linenshand’t been shaken up which I could only assume meant that nobody had slept here lastnight, it might have explained the dark circles under Julie’s eyes.

Just as I was pulling on my jersey somebody knocked on the door. “Come In!” I called, tryingto pull my head and arms threw the right holes. The door opened just as my last arm wentthrew its opening.

Jacob stepped threw the opening, his face serious. “Hey”

“Hey” I called back. I quickly searched threw my bag and found my pair of sweets and putthem over my shorts--today didn’t look like a short kind of weather day. Then again it neverdid…

“Your still going to breakfast with that guy?” he asked,I wondered why he would have asked me again, I had said I was going not even five minutesago. “Yeah, why?”

Page 20: Morning Star :Chapter 2

8/9/2019 Morning Star :Chapter 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/morning-star-chapter-2 20/25

He took a step towards me “I can’t let you go” he said firmly. He sounded incrediblypossessive, I had to be careful with the words I would chose to speak to him.“Why can’t I?”“Because...after what happened last night I don’t want to let you out of my sight” Heanswered.

“Wow, you’re really starting to sound like my dad” I pointed out, I knew I must have hit anerve since his fists started shaking “Jake, I’m sure I can take care of myself for a few hours”He took a calming breath and began to speak “Ness, I can’t let you go” this time with moreaffirmation. I finished by putting on my sweeter and shoes and saying bitterly “Well, if youwon’t let me, watch me go” I headed for the door. Just as I was stepping threw the opening Ispoke to him one last time “You know, you better stop it with all your jealousy andprotectiveness. I’m not a kid anymore Jacob! And if you can’t handle that” the next wordspained me “Then you can’t handle me”I closed to door with some force and swiftly strode to the door calling out that I would meetthem at the game later on. I quickly rushed to the door leading to the staircase.

He was waiting for me in the restaurant lobby, just as planned. He stood leaning against oneof the wall, his arms were crossed against his chest. The padded benches they had in thewaiting area were full of family’s that were looking forward to a Sunday morning brunch.Once he saw me he sat up straight with a smile spread across his face.I waved “Good morning”“Good morning” he greeted just as I had “I reserved us a table, its always busy on Sundaymorning, you know with all the family’s coming for brunch” He told the host that we wereready to be seated.

“I thought that to be considered a brunch, it had to be between breakfast and lunch--its onlynine?” I acknowledged, I’d heard about it on TV and that seemed to be the norm.He chuckled “Yeah, it is. Although some people want to beat the crowds, like these ones” heanswered “In my family, we have this tradition to go for brunch once every month onSunday’s. Have you ever brunched with your family?” he asked, I enjoyed the utility of theword brunch as a verb.“Nope” I said, I didn’t mention the long answer, No, my family doesn’t eat- ever!“Really? Well, you should really get onto that” he commented and laughed as they seated usin a big leather booth “It’s good family bonding time” he added

“I definitely will” I laughed. Instead of eggs and bacon it would be a red liquid.“Your server will be with you in just a moment” the host said. We both thanked her andstarted looking threw our menu’s. The nervous pains growling in my stomach decided what Iwas going to order.“So how was your night?” he asked “Have fun with your team mates?”Other then the incident “It was eventful” except for one little thing “Well, somebody gothurt--she’s in the hospital”

Page 21: Morning Star :Chapter 2

8/9/2019 Morning Star :Chapter 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/morning-star-chapter-2 21/25

He looked up in shock “That’s horrible, I’m so sorry, what happened?” he askedsympathetically. It was so easy to open up to Johnny--he was just so understanding, andadorable smiles were my weakness.“We don’t know, but she’s going to be in the hospital for a few days, she has a broken leg andlost a lot of blood but she’s a lot better now”

“That’s too bad, at least she’s doing well” he said, looking at the bright side. “What’s hername? Does she go to school with us?”I nodded “Yeah, her names is Nicole Smith. You met her on Friday--she’s the one with theblond hair”He nodded, he seemed to be trying to put the name to the face so he would remember.

The waitress arrived soon after to take our orders. Ironically enough we both ordered the samething; fruit salad with yogurt and granola with a tall glass of orange juice. We both giggledwhen both our orders turned out the same. The waitress seemed to find it cute, she grinned and walked back to the kitchen.

“Okay, so now its my turn to ask you questions” he confirmed “Since yesterday you asked allthe questions”“Sounds fair enough” I agreed“Okay” he didn’t think long for a questions to ask “Easiest question ever; What’s your favoritecolor?” he asked“Hmm...I’d have to say purple, because its calming, sorta romantic and it reminds me of someof my favorite flowers.”“Interesting” he continued with many questions until our food came. I felt like we knew eachother for years after all we knew about each other. The questions varied from when was mybirthday; I lied about the year, what kind of food I liked and my favorite place in the world:

which I answered lamely as being Forks--he laughed.

A few bites into our meals he asked me another question “So, tell me about your family”I swallowed a piece of strawberry and began to talk “It’s a long story”“I’ve got time” he grinned

I didn’t particularly enjoy telling this story, since it was mostly a lie but it was necessary“Well, my parents died when I was eighteen months old; they were on vacation in a little townin Italy when their hotel caught on fire. I didn’t have any other family so I was put up foradoption and was soon adopted by Dr. Cullen and his wife. I’ve been with them ever since I

was a toddler. I don’t remember anything about my biological parents, but I consider theCullen’s as being my family, that’s why were so close. Carlisle and Esme are my adoptiveparents, and they have five other foster children as well. Esme wasn’t able to have her ownkids so thats why they became foster parents. They never really left even though their adultsnow, they’re family. First Edward then Rosalie, Emmett, Alice and Jasper soon followed.Edward married Bella a a few years ago. Just a few years ago, I moved back here from Europewhere I went to a private school for the arts, that’s why I didn’t go to Forks High School untilthis year. ”

Page 22: Morning Star :Chapter 2

8/9/2019 Morning Star :Chapter 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/morning-star-chapter-2 22/25

He paused for a second trying to take it all in “Wow, I’m so sorry. It must have been tough. Itsgood that you consider the Cullen’s as your real family. But, if you don’t me asking, I’ve heardthat all our brothers and sister and like, together”

“Oh yeah, well Emmett and Rosalie are a couple and married and Alice and Jasper are

together and they’re also married, and as I said Edward married Bella a few years ago--butBella wasn’t adopted by the Cullen’s. Since there not actually blood related its no so weird, but I understand that some people think its majorly weird”“I don’t think its so weird, its good that they have somebody to love” He added“Yeah, it is”We both took another few bites before resuming the questioning. “So was that Jacob guy yourspecial someone? He seemed pretty...protective”“No, he’s just my my friend. Sorry about yesterday, I know he can act like jerk sometimes, he’sjust really protective. He’s almost like my big brother. But once you get to know him, he'sway better.”

“No, its fine--I know how protective and jealous guys can get. I bet he didn’t take it too wellwhen you told him you were meeting me for breakfast”I sighed “You read my mind”

We continued chatting threw our meals. The questions had become much lighter, talkingabout both of our childhoods and what we planned to do in the future. He took the checkwhen it came although I insisted I pay for my meal and he refused “Come on, let me be agentlemen”“Oh, I think you’ve got the whole gentlemen thing going on well” I complimented him. Afterhe had paid we followed into the hotel lobby.

“Thank-you for breakfast--I enjoyed myself very much” I thanked him“Thank-you got joining me, I enjoyed myself as well. So when’s your first game?” he askedpulling up his cuff on his dress shirt and sweater “It’s already ten thirty”“My first game at twelve thirty--I still got two hours to spare” I said, thinking of what I coulddo for about an hour and a half before I was forced to leave for the game. I wasn’t reallywanting to go back to the suite since Jacob was most probably still there and I was sure hewould still be irritated.“Well, I have to be at the soccer complex at eleven to score keep the first game but you cancome with me if you’d like?”I didn’t think about it for long “Sounds good” I agreed. He seemed happy with my response.

We started walking towards the front entrance, but we met somebody on our way.My father was effortlessly walking threw the revolving doors, he waved as he saw me.“Renesmee” he called even though the door was at least twenty feet away- he had reached usquickly.“Hi d-Edward” I corrected myself before I pronounced ‘dad’. He crookedly grinned, probablyhappy to see me in one piece. “Hello Renesmee” he greeted. My dad glanced towards Johnnythen back at me “Who’s your friend?” he asked curiously, not recognizing him from my groupof friends.

“Edward, this is my friend Johnny” I said as I motioned towards him, they both shook hands“He just moved to Forks from Aberdeen, he goes to school with me. We ran into each other atthe game yesterday; he’s scorekeeping” I gave my dad a brief background description.“Its a pleasure to meet you Johnny”“Likewise sir” he said politely, I could tell my father was impressed by the way he presented

himself.“So Renesmee, where are Bella and Jacob?” he asked, probably suspicious why I wasn’t withthem.“There probably upstairs still in the suite. I’m going to the complex right now though, so canyou tell them before they start freaking out?”“Of course I can, be careful though.” he reminded me. It seemed to be like every time I talkedto him, he had to end he conversation by ‘be careful’ or ‘be safe’ anything of the sort.I nodded “Well, I’ll see you later. You’re still coming to the game right?”“Of course we are. I’ll see you soon. It was nice to meet you Johnny”“You too” he responded with a polite grin.

Once we got into his truck; a really cool red vintage Ford that must have been at least fiftyyears old, that was parked out in the parking lot he made a comment. “You and your brotherseem close”“Bella, me and him are pretty tight” I used a term that I’d heard frequently on MTV “Eventhough I don’t remember much of my biological parents- they remind me a lot of them, butI’m not exactly sure why. They act like parents too even though they’re only seven years olderthen me. There all very protective of me”He nodded, only to add another question about my family- I couldn’t complain since I hadasked him questions about his own family as well yesterday, I knew he had an older sister

named Danielle that went to University in New Jersey and a younger sister named Fran thatwas twelve. He had also told me all about his parents and how he had been brought up.“Okay one more question about your family”“Shoot” I responded, another term I’d heard on television. I had to give credit to moderntelevision sitcoms for my vocabulary and helping me blend in.“If you could use one word to describe each of them, what would it be?” he asked. In allquestions that people had asked me about my family, nobody had once asked that one.It took me a while to ponder on what I would answer. “Hmm?”He started naming them, I was surprised he had remembered them all-I don’t think most of my friends knew all of their names “Let’s start with Carlisle”

“Compassionate: he cares about the other around him and he’d do anything for his family”“Esme”“Motherly: she loves all of us like we were her real, blood related children and she’s alwaysthere for us, and she orders us to do our chores and stuff like that, just like a mom”“Emmett... right?” he had to think harder for all the other names but still had them all right.“Definitely my big teddy bear: even though he’s huge and super strong, he has a soft side andgives amazing hugs. He always makes me feel better” I giggled “he’s definitely the poster boyfor big brothers all over the world”

He chuckled at my answer and continued “Rosalie”“She’s hard to describe, I’d have to say the centre of attention: she always wants to be in thespotlight although I don’t think she realizes it. She can be pretty...unbearable at times”“Alice”“I’d have to describe her as being spontaneous: she’s always coming up with stuff and she

tends to co-ordinate the family a lot--well at least with our wardrobe. She also has a certainspunk to her. Oh, and she’s very predictable”“Jasper”“Charismatic: he can change the mood of a room just by being there and he’s a good leader”“Edward”It took me a while to find something for him “He’s a protector: he’d do anything for thepeople he loved, and he always knows...everything- trust me, it can get annoying at times”“And...finally Bella”“And, Bella” it was weird saying her name, although I should be used to it by now“She’s a private person, she doesn’t seem to let people affect her that much, and she’s not the

kind to be super outgoing- but I look up to her so much, she’s her own person and I respectthat. She’s not just a puppet you can mould. Six years ago when I first me her, she just reallytook initiative with raising me and giving me a good example, like a role model. She’s one of my best-friend”

He absorbed all my answers “That’s interesting, you probably see all of them as differentpeople then all the others do”I agreed “I definitely do, sometimes I wish people wouldn’t see them as the outcasts, were likeeverybody else here”, except for the fact that were vampires, I said to myself.

We continued the short distance to the complex in silence as the music was playing on theradio. I’d heard the song so many times previously, I was signing along in my head. I lookedaround the vehicle, it had clearly been renovated: the seats had been reupholstered, and therehad been installed a new sound system, and before I’d noticed that it had probably gotten anew paint coat.

The parking lot wasn’t nearly as full as yesterday, Johnny managed to claim a spot right besidethe door.“So, where did you find this truck? I’m sorry to say but it has a few years on you”.We both laughed “Well my dad bought it from this guy at a used car dump a few years ago.

When I turned fifteen I started fixing it up, it was a total piece a junk before--the thing didn’teven run anymore! Me and my dad completely rebuilt the engine, I gave it a fresh coat a paintand my mom helped me with the cushions. The stereo wasn’t in place anymore, so I had toput in a new one. It took me a while to fix her up, but she works like a charm now”“She definitely does, you like cars?” I inquired. His face lit up “Yeah, love them! Its one thing me and my dad can spend hours talking about”he said. Maybe if I told this to Jacob they could have something in common, they could talkwhat I called car-talk.

“Thats cool, Jacob really likes cars too--maybe you two could hang out and car-talk. Mybrothers also know a little bit about cars too” I didn’t mention that he should come pay ourgarage a visit since it would sounded swank. He sighed “I don’t think thats the best idea, although I’d loved too, at least with Jacob- hedidn’t really seem to be fond of me yesterday”

We both got out of the car at the same time, and got to the front of the truck at the sametime. “Jacob will have to deal, sure he gets a little weird sometimes, but he’ll be nice, I’ll makehim” I giggled. “From what I’ve learned in the last two days, you both have a lot in common”“Okay, I trust your judgement--maybe we could hang out”

We left that conversation open, I reminded myself to talk to Jacob, once he calmed downabout the situation, if he would like to hang out with him. We walked into the complextogether, holding the door as I walked in.Once we got to the door leading to the field, there was a sheet of loose leaf with some writingthat read “Games put back to 12:30 due to some complications. Thank-you!” signed at the

bottom by the event co-ordinator.“Well, I guess they didn’t think to advise the scorekeepers of this little adjustment” he saidunder his breath. At least the door hadn't been locked, we easily entered and sat on thebleachers. The whole place seemed completely deserted, just like a ghost town.

Just as I was sitting down, my phone violently started to vibrate in my jacket pocket; Iquickly fetched it out and looked at the display--my mom.“Would you excuse me for a minute, I have to take this call” I asked, worried about not beingpolite. He nodded “No, go right ahead”

I stepped away and took the call “Hello”“Nessie, have you arrived to the complex yet?” again, pointlessly worrying.“Yeah I have, and before you ask I’m completely fine too. I’m just here with Johnny, all thegames were put back to twelve thirty so were just hanging out”“Is that the boy you were meeting up with for breakfast and that Jacob was mumbling about”she said a matter-of factly. “And, if you want to know he is still upset...but he’s reaching forthe phone, I think he wants to talk to you” she laughed.I refused “No, I’m not talking to him until he grows up, could you tell him that for me Mom?

Johnny is just a friend”She agreed and quietly laughed “I’ll tell him; we’ll see you soon”

I pressed the end button and put my phone back in my pocket and joined Johnny in thebleachers.
