Zone Athletics On Monday the 19th of August 16 students from years 3-6
competed at the Zone athletics carnival in Tamworth. As a
school, our team looked great. Laura and Hannah were
competing in Shot Put whilst the others marched. Students
competed with enthusiasm and sportsmanship and are to be
commended on their efforts. It was great to see more than
half of the students eligible, participate in a zone carnival.
I was very proud to be a teacher at Moonbi with all of the
students behaving and showing great team work. I am very
excited to announce that our P5 senior relay team,
Mykenzie, Curtis, Shaelynn and Clay made it to North West
to be held on Friday 6 September. We wish them luck. Keep
up the good work everyone!
Chloe Cornish – supervising teacher
Carinya Horse Sports A fine looking team of riders represented our school at the
recent Carinya Horse Sports Day held at the Moonbi
Showground. Congratulations to Jack Foster for winning his
age group and Kaydee Hernando for Runner-up.
Kindy Orientation & Parent Info Morning
Friday 13 September 9am-11am 2014 Kindergarten students will be
introduced to their buddy who will be there
to support them in the transition sessions
(and in 2014 when they start school).
Children and parents participate in classroom activities
with their buddies for 2014. Children will play and enjoy
various activities such as maths, story-telling, craft and
sport and will tour the school. This is a great chance for
you and your child to meet other children and parents who
will be starting at the school next year and meet some of
the school staff. Parents will receive information about
school policies, programs and organisation and ways to help
their child prepare for starting school. Parents will also
hear from a parent representative about ways they can be
involved in the life of the school and see items of school
uniform on display. While parents are attending this session
in the hall, their children can participate in classroom
activities with their buddies. Our full day transition classes
will run on Fridays from 11 October – 29 November.
The Great Debate Families and community members are invited to school to be
a part of the audience for our debate tomorrow at 2pm.
Our debaters topic is ‘School hours should be longer’.
Everyone is welcome to come along; we would love to see
you.

Head Lice Please note that we have been advised of head lice at
school. Tips for tackling kids head lice
Use hair conditioner and a fine head lice comb.
Apply conditioner to the hair and comb through
with a wide-toothed comb to remove the tangles.
Then use a fine metal lice comb to remove the lice
and pull the nits off the hair.
The conditioner helps slow down the louse and
makes it easier to comb out.
Reduce transmission by tying hair back and
braiding. We now it's hard for young girls to
consider this cool, but try it!
Regularly check your children's hair.

Student banking It is not too late so sign up for School Banking. Please
contact me if you are interested and I am more than happy
to help. Thursday is School Banking day and students
should remember to bring in their weekly deposit.
Some School Banking tips:
* Support children to complete the deposit slip themselves
– don’t do it for them! Remember, your child is developing
money management skills.
* If your child receives pocket money get them to allocate
some money towards their School Banking deposit for
saving.
Keep Smiling!

Children With Type 1 Diabetes - Are You Challenged by Your Child’s Diabetes? Research into parenting children with type 1 diabetes.
The University of Queensland is conducting research into
parenting children with type 1 diabetes. Parenting a child
with diabetes presents many challenges (everything from
the regular blood glucose monitoring and insulin intake, to
more general parenting tasks). The aim of this study is to
understand the factors that make the management of
childhood diabetes particularly difficult, and to use this
information to develop strategies that might assist parents
in managing their child’s diabetes.
If you are a parent of a 2 to 10-year-old child with type 1
diabetes, we would love to hear from you!
By sharing your experiences (confidentially), you will be
making a valuable contribution to the development of much-
needed childhood diabetes management strategies for
parents.
To complete the online survey, please log on to:
https://exp.psy.uq.edu.au/type1diabetes
For further information about the project or to request a
survey to be posted to you, please email Aditi Lohan

the Parenting and Family Support Centre in the School of
Psychology at the University of Queensland, St Lucia QLD
