I pray you and your loved ones will have a Blessed and Prosperous New Year!

I take great encouragement from the Holy Family. We discover, in the Infant Jesus, God’s willingness to become like us, to walk around as one of us and teach us about the heavenly Father’s love. I am drawn towards Mary as our model of contemplation, of one willing, day after day, to put her full confidence in God’s provision, and to always take her cares as a mother to God in prayer. Our Mother Mary is always there for us. And Joseph, as the earthly father of Jesus, encourages me as model of fidelity: faithful to his vocation to be a child of God; to be a loving spouse to Mary, even when those around may not have understood why he took an unwed pregnant woman into his home as spouse.

I often pray to the Holy Family for our parish: for you in your specific vocations, and for our community, that we would flourish in the wisdom of their example and the protection of their prayers.

Happy New Year!

Feast of the Holy Family

Sacrament of Holy Matrimony:

The Catholic Church believes that marriages entered into by non-Catholics in their particu-lar church, or wherever they may take place, are valid. However, marriages in which one or both parties are Catholic and which are not

witnessed by an authorized bishop, priest, or deacon, or which do not receive proper permission to take place in another forum, are considered invalid in the eyes of the Catholic Church. The Church very much wants to offer the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony for those who are ready and free to do so through what is called a convalidation. The clergy and staff of Saint Mary Cathedral would like to invite any couple that is interested in convalidation to contact the office for more info. at 512-476-6182 or email [email protected].

Prayer to the Holy Family*

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendor of true love, to you we turn with trust.

Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic Churches.

Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again experience violence, rejection and division: may all who have been hurt or scandalized find ready comfort and healing.

Holy Family of Nazareth, make us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God's plan.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer.

Amen.

*“The Relatio Synodi (final document) from the 2015 Ordinary Synod of Bishops included this prayer, which is a slightly modified version of a prayer Pope Francis shared in a 2013 Angelus address.” (from usccb.org)

High School Men’s Discernment Dinner Wed., Jan. 3, 7:00-8:30pm in St. William Parish Rectory, 1105 Deer Run, Round Rock. We’ve got good food, awesome seminarians and priests and great community. It’s the perfect mix to begin (or continue) your search for who God created you to be and the greatness he’s calling you to. RSVP to Zach Rodriguez at 512-355-4476.

Prayer for Seminarians and Priests: Jesus, our great High Priest, I thank you for your gift of your priesthood to the Church. I pray for all priests and those in formation for the priesthood, especially______. Fill them with the joy of your Holy Spirit as they imitate you, the Good Shepherd, laying their lives down daily for those you have given them to serve. Let your love fill and satisfy their hearts as you teach them to give of themselves more deeply. Make them ardent yet gentle heralds of the Gospel and tender ministers of your mercy, especially toward those most in need of it. Jesus, gentle and humble of heart, make their hearts more like yours! Amen. Our Father…, Hail Mary…, Glory be… St. John Vianney, patron of priests, pray for us! Please pray for the Cathedral Seminarians: Chris Yeager on the 4th; Miguel Flores on the 5th, and Ladd Spears on the 14th of each month, respectively.

Help our homeless neighbors by donating to Catholic Charities of Central Texas, (512-651-6100, www.ccctx.org), or to our St. Vincent de Paul Society that provides bus passes and vouchers for clothing and food for the homeless. Let’s use organizations we already have to truly help homeless persons.
