SAFETY NOTES AND RECOMMENDATIONS

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY 1. Read these instructions and this users guide carefully. 2. All electrical supplies to the equipment must be externally fused with an

appropriately rated fuse for safety.

3. Always unplug the equipment from the supply before carrying out any servicing.

4. The air supply must be turned off before carrying out any work on the pneumatic system. The air supply must not exceed that specified on the instrument or in the Test Certificate.

5. If in doubt about any aspect of safety with the equipment then contact Furness Controls BEFORE proceeding.

INTRODUCTION

This guide should be read in conjunction with the ‘300 Series Supplement’

General Description The FCO332 is a fully configurable, industrial differential pressure transmitter. The pressure cell is based on the unique Furness Controls capacitive sensor of proven reliability. A microprocessor is used to control all functions of stability, such as temperature correction and linearity. The output can be scaled as a linear or square root function to facilitate the use of Pitot Static Tubes or other primary flow elements. The FCO332 is suitable for industrial applications of control, measurement and monitoring. Features include: • Optional large character liquid crystal 4½ digit display • Linear or square root output • 10:1 range adjustment using Model 301 interface

Optional Configurations: • 2-Wire 4 to 20mA Current output • 3-Wire Voltage output

0 to 0.5V, 0 to 1V, 0 to 2V, 0 to 5V, 0 to 10V, 0.1 to 0.5V, 0.2 to 1V, 0.4 to 2V, 1 to 5V, 2 to 10V

• 4-Wire Voltage output 0 to 0.5V, 0 to 1V, 0 to 2V, 0 to 5V, 0 to 10V, ±0.5V, ±1V, ±2V, ±5V, ±10V

• 4-Wire Isolated 4 to 20mA Current output • 4-Wire Isolated Voltage output

0 to 1V, 0 to 2V, 0 to 5V, 0 to 10V, ±0.5V, ±1V, ±2V, ±5V, ±10V • Remote Zeroing Function

Zero the FCO332 with an externally fitted button, or suitable electronic circuitry. Available to instruments with the necessary hardware option fitted.

• Auto Zeroing Function Adjustable delay between 0 and 24.0 Hours with 0.1 hour resolution. Available to instruments with the necessary hardware option fitted.

Typical applications include: • Combustion pressure measurement and control of industrial furnaces • Air pressure measurement and control of dryers, kilns and ovens • Air flow measurement in conjunction with pitot static tubes, orifice plates or venturi

Enclosure The instrument is housed in an IP54 rated ABS enclosure. Pneumatic connections (fitted as standard) are for 4mm i/d push on tubing. Optional pneumatic connections are:

• 1/8”BSPP(f) threaded adaptor, and • 1/4"BSPP(f) threaded adaptor

Page 6: Model 332 Differential Pressure Transmitterfurness-sp.weebly.com/uploads/2/1/0/2/21026546/fco332... · 2018-09-09 · The FCO332 is a fully configurable, industrial differential pressure

INSTALLATION

Mounting The recommended mounting position of the FCO332 is with the pressure entry ports facing directly downwards. This helps prevent the ingress of dust and liquid. Due to the sensitivity of lower range instruments, they should not be mounted in areas where they will be subjected to high vibration as this could cause spurious readings. The enclosure has four mounting holes for M4 screws, which are accessible with the cover removed.

Pneumatic All pipework should slope downwards from the instrument to make it self draining. When using the instrument to measure pressure at a single point with long pipe runs the reference port should be piped in parallel, with the pipe left open at the process end.

Electrical Connectors Cable entry is via a right-angled Type C DIN connector with M6 cable gland mounted on the bottom of the instrument. Where optional features are added to the standard FCO332 (i.e. relay o/p, auto zero, or remote zero) the same right-angled Type C DIN connector is used to provide power and/or to gain access to the various functions provided by that option. A two to four core cable, up to 6.0mmO.D., can be used with the standard socket. The terminals provided with the socket are of the screw type. The socket must first be dismantled, by removing the securing screw and pushing the centre terminal block from the housing. The cable is passed though the gland and housing. Conductors are terminated as detailed below. Each conductor should be stripped free of insulation for a length of 3-5mm.

Auxiliary Power Connection The connector fitted to the top left of the case has terminals for powering the internal circuitry for the relay outputs & auto zero functions, and must be connected to an external 24Vdc power source. The same connector is also used to connect to an external (remote) switch or suitable electronic circuitry for zeroing the transmitter.

COMMISSIONING Make the electrical and pneumatic connections as recommended. Turn on the power supply. Configuration settings (such as range, display settings, etc.) may be changed using the FCO301 utility cable, refer to the 300 series supplement for further details. Check that either the auxiliary current sensing or voltage-measuring device that is being used is registering. If not, check the supply voltage is within specified limits and inspect for poor connections. After fixing the instrument in position, allow at least one hour before commencing the final commissioning. After commissioning, allow the instrument to reach ambient temperature for at least 10 minutes. With no pressure applied, check the output is correct for zero input. If not:-

• press the ‘zero’ button (indicated below) • activate the remote zero (if fitted) • or enable the auto zero function (if fitted), the delay time may have to be temporarily set to

0.1hour (refer to the 300 series supplement for further details).

Zero Button

NOTE: if the auto zero valve is fitted, pressing either the zero button or the remote zero will force an auto zero cycle. In the unlikely event an error message is displayed, refer to the 300 series supplement for further details.

The instrument is now ready for operation.

CALIBRATION Furness Controls recommend that all pressure transmitters and flow devices are recalibrated annually. For critical applications, it is advisable to check the calibration more frequently. All calibration of the FCO332 is performed through a PC using the FCO301 interface unit and software. Refer to the ‘300 Series Supplement’ for further information regarding the recalibration of the FCO332. Contact our Furness Controls’ UKAS accredited calibration laboratories for further information.
