The school community is celebrating the recently published Section 48 report from Ofsted. We are delighted that we have gained top marks for our distinctiveness and effectiveness in a national standard assessment that complements the Section 5 Ofsted inspection. As a school we were praised for our inclusiveness, with our mission being shared and upheld by all, Christian and non-Christian alike. Strengths included:

We were recognised as a true Christian community committed to nurturing the ‘whole child’. Students are quoted many times in the report, confirming the support available to them and declaring “without reservation” that the quality of relationships between themselves and the teachers is a major strength of the school. This is confirmed by parents who say that “respect for

These prayers are attached to the Christmas tree in the school reception to form poignant and beauti ful decorations.

CCCHRISTMASHRISTMASHRISTMAS INININ THETHETHE CCCITYITYITY: C: C: CARBONARBONARBON Congratulations to our Year 10 band Carbon who won Nottingham City’s annual Battle of the Bands competition Bands In The Sand this term. Adam Bairstow, Sirian Palmer, Liam Whitby, Safrina Henry and Towera Kambona battled it out against eight other bands, all from Nottingham Music School, to win the 11-15 year olds category in the city’s Battle of the Bands competition. The judges praised their energy, performance and song writing expertise, as well as their instrumental and vocal skills. The band performed brilliantly once more in the Christmas in the City Concert at Nottingham’s Albert Hall and again were excellent ambassadors for Emmanuel. Well done to all of you for your hard work, dedication and perseverance. Mrs Bracha, Assistant Headteacher

Nottingham Music School is operated by Nottingham City Music Service and provides opportunities for young musicians from schools across the city to get together to make music. Groups include orchestras, big bands, world music groups and the Band Factory where students can join or form their own bands. Many of these groups take part in high profile events in the city such as Christmas in the City, Light Night & Colwickstock. Most groups meet weekly on Saturday mornings at Ellis Guilford school in Basford and fees start from as little as £1 per week. O n M o n d a y 1 3 December, 3 Year 11 students (Catherine Regan, Fiona Morley and Stephanie Roughton) were accompanied by Mr Wolfe in a stunning performance of ‘O Holy Night’ for the Lord Mayor of Rushcliffe’s Civic Carol Service, held at St Paul’s Church, West Bridgford. This is a key event in the council’s

seasonal celebrations and was well attended by local dignitaries and elected councillors. The traditional Carol was arranged for 3-part harmony by the students and they received a suitably effusive ovation for their extremely moving performance. ‘It was great to meet the Mayor, and she was really complimentary about our singing’, said Catherine Regan. The students received great feedback from a wide range of councillors, so an excellent night all in all!

FFFROMROMROM MMMEMPHISEMPHISEMPHIS TOTOTO THETHETHE BBBBCBCBC Having been selected as the only school in Nottingham to take part in the BBC Radio Nottingham Carol Service this year, a performance of the mesmerising ‘The Artisan’, composed by Alice Bentham (Year 13) as part of last year’s Music trip to Memphis, was selected. Alice was ably supported in the performance by Mr Williams, Ya Chun Wang (Year 11), Alicia and Christabel Goode (Year 10) and Rachel To (Year 9), and the haunting and moving composition was extremely well received by the 700 guests to the service. Students had the opportunity to meet all the BBC presenters and represented the school splendidly. The Service featuring Alice’s piece is to be broadcast on BBC Radio Nottingham on Christmas Eve at 6.00pm and Christmas Day at 1.00pm, so tune in to hear our very own students live on the airwaves! HHHAMPERSAMPERSAMPERS FORFORFOR THETHETHE HHHOMELESSOMELESSOMELESS Students across all year groups have been actively involved in creating Christmas hampers, a feature of our charity programme here at Emmanuel. Each tutor group works together to produce a hamper for ‘Emmanuel House’ in Hockley and 'Friary Drop In' in West Bridgford. These organisations work with the vulnerable and disadvantaged, particularly homelessness. As part of our community service

programme all students are encouraged to take part, creating a vibrant atmosphere around school. As ever, students have been thoughtful and generous as they endeavour to be the tutor group with the best hamper! On behalf of Heads of House. I would like to offer our sincere thanks for all of the hard work that students and staff have devoted to supporting others in need. Mrs Whitaker, Head of Blue House

Friday 19 November saw the annual 'Children in Need' Charity

day. The Learning Support team, along with Friday 'Kaleidoscope Club' and NOCN (National Open College

Network) made and decorated cakes for a lunch time cake sale. Staff and students from

around the school came out in support raising £140 for this worthwhile charity. Pudsey (Mrs

Oakley) made a guest appearance, bringing

many smiles and much laughter, going around the school, dining hall, staff room and even a

visit to Mrs Fearria's office where contributions were gratefully received!

On 16 November, the R.S. department took 60 students to Southwell Minster on a fantastic trip with lots of exciting activities. On the theme of self esteem and our value to God, students had the chance to witness an engaging and poignant drama based on the Christmas Truce of 1914 by the Riding Lights Theatre Company. Following this, there was a drama workshop where students expressed their views and shared ideas in relation to self esteem. An in-depth question and answer session with the actor clearly showed that the students had captured the thought provoking experience. The afternoon provided further opportunity for students to engage in workshops on story telling, word art, clay a n d a m u l t i m e d i a presentation on perception. Students thoroughly enjoyed their experiences at Southwell: ‘It was great, I really enjoyed it!’ Kristian Georgev 708. ‘Aww, I don’t want to leave, I’m having so much fun…’ Abigail Pendergast 708

On a cold and damp evening at Southglade Leisure

Centre's, the City Finals for Y7 Boys Football took shape.

Semi Final Line up of Top Valley v Emmanuel & Trinity V

Nottingham Academy was an exciting prospect as all 4

teams had shown their class in the group stages. It was

Trinity and Emmanuel who excelled reaching the final - a

tight affair with both teams making a cautious start to takie

the game 0 v 0 at half time. After motivational half time team

talks both teams came out looking for the win. It was

Emmanuel who pounced on the counter attack breaking the

deadlock; from here on Emmanuel looked the more positive.

Trinity battled to get back into the game but this time to no

avail as Emmanuel again on the counter attack secured the

match winner. Emmanuel 2 - 0 Trinity!
