Shopping for groceries is very different than shopping for electronics or books, in the real world and online. Repeat orders are much more common. Carts are much larger. Item comparison is more common. While a handful of online gro-cery services have set up shop, few of them have done much to design solutions for grocery-specific problems, opting instead to use traditional ecommerce interfaces.

After weeks of of wireframing, we agreed on a design. We wanted a responsive single page app that would allow users to quickly flip through items without page load times, move fluidly between shopping list items and actual products, set up multiple orders at the same time, add items to orders at the last moment (even after checkout), filter and mark items instantly, and more.

CoConversations with real world-users and small usability studies inspired us to include additional UX conveniences such as just-in-time help, animations to draw the eye and communicate relationships, some clever reductions in informaiton density, and ‘stickiness’ for important buttons in the checkout flow.
