FANM Celebrates Lawsuit Victorythe law. Democracy wins. TPS for theHaitians was terminated due to racism. While we are celebrating this victory,we urge Congress to act now! TheDream and Promise Act will give TPSand DACA recipients a safe haven inthe U.S. where they have establishedtheir lives by contributing to oureconomy and our communities. This billis a great step toward permanentresidency for thousands of TPS andDACA recipients. FANM is committedto the passage of this bill into law.”In a 145-page federal ruling, U.S.District Judge William F. Kuntz of theEastern District of New York issued anationwide temporary injunctionpreventing DHS from terminatingTemporary Protected Status, TPS, forHaitians. Kuntz said 50,000 to 60,000Haitians and their U.S.-born childrenwould suffer “irreparable harm” if thelegal protection ended and they wereforced to return to a country that is notsafe.Kevin A. Gregg, a lawyer fromKurzban Kurzban Tetzeli & Pratt P.A.,said “Judge Kuntz’s Decision issuing apreliminary injunction against the DHS

in the Saget case is a sweepingindictment of the TrumpAdministration’s attempt to terminateTPS for Haiti. In Judge Kuntz’s ownwords, DHS ‘manipulated the facts’ inorder ‘to achieve a desired politicaloutcome.’ While the case is far fromover, Thursday’s Decision is amonumental and very encouragingstep.”The following is a statement from LeomaPierre, TPS Recipient, Lawsuit plaintiffand FANM member:“I’m happy that Judge Kent took thatdecision that will allow us to stay. I willalso thank the Family Action NetworkMovement for its efforts to push thefight not only for Haitians with TPS butall TPS recipients. Now, we only hopethat the organization continues its fightfor permanency for all TPSRecipients.”FANM’s mission is toempower low to moderate incomefamilies socially, financially, andpolitically and to give them the tools totransform their communities. For more information contact RhenieDalger at 786-280-9062 [email protected]
