I N T R O D U C T I O N

This Executive Summary has been prepared to provide highlights of the Equal Business Opportunity activities and accomplishments that have occurred from contract inception through 31 March 2016, and to illustrate the progress made toward the M/FBE goal of 31% participation on the construction of the Atlanta Falcons Mercedes-Benz Stadium (“MB Stadium”).

As illustrated on the following pages, currently $309,523,912 of the total MB Stadium contract value has been committed to M/FBE firms. This figure comprises the total contract dollars awarded to M/FBEs for the entire scope of the project, which includes the development, design, and construction phases of the stadium. Of the total dollars committed to M/FBEs, $192,838,476 has been paid through 30 April 2016, to the firms awarded. As of the close of the first quarter of 2016, M/FBE participation on the MB Stadium was at 35.5% of the total contract value.

Principal: J. Ellen Long

Long Engineering, Inc. is an Atlanta-certified female-owned civil engineering firm that was founded by principal J. Ellen Long nearly two decades ago. It is a 70 member firm that provides an array of specialized engineering services in various fields and has offices in Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia.

Long Engineering has served in both the design phase and construction phase of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium (“MB Stadium”).1 Specifically, it has provided boundary, topographic and utility surveys, Georgia Power transmission line relocation surveys, site design, utility coordination and design, and construction staking for MB Stadium.

Long Engineering is no stranger to audacious projects – it has a long portfolio of impressive engineering services it has provided for major projects (the international terminal at Hartsfield Airport, the forthcoming Atlanta United training facility, and the Atlanta Botanical Gardens Visitor Center, just to name a few)– yet when speaking with principals J. Ellen Long and Shepard Long, it is clear that their firm’s work on MB Stadium is one of the jewels in the firm’s crown. Mrs. Long couldn’t say enough good things about the experience, including that it is an “iconic project that [Long Engineering] couldn’t be more proud to be a part of.”

Long Engineering has a unique perspective of the project in that it has truly worked on it from the beginning. It handled all of the land surveying for all potential sites under consideration for the new stadium, as well as the public roadways, utilities, and MARTA accessibility matters that were involved in making the determination for the location of the stadium. And that (working on it from the very beginning), some two years into the construction of the stadium, is what has made the project such an interesting one for the principals. What keeps it interesting is the collaborative effort that all involved have created to ensure that Atlanta is home to a world-class stadium.

Long Engineering will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year. As one reflects on 20 years of learning, growing and building in the Atlanta community Mr. Long may have summed up the take-aways from those experiences the best when he described what it meant for their firm to work on the MB Stadium: “[Long Engineering] is working with the best of the best [to create and build the Mercedes-Benz Stadium]…and it doesn’t get any better than that.”

Alpha Insulation and Waterproofing (“Alpha”) is a City of Atlanta-certified Asian (Pacific Islander) American Business Enterprise. Alpha Insulation was founded in 1982 and has offices in several states. Its Georgia based office is located in Marietta, Georgia.

Alpha is responsible for all of the fire-stopping provided in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium (“MB Stadium”), fireproofing, spray insulation, in-wall installation, and the stadium’s gutter installation.2 According to employees at Alpha, with thirty-four year of experience to date, it is accustomed to working on complex jobs but even still the MB Stadium construction project happens to be an exciting challenge for them.

And it certainly has been beneficial. Alpha recognizes a number of benefits that have come from working on the MB Stadium construction, not the least of which is that it has hired a dozen full time installers to work on the

project. Notably, three of those employees were graduates of the community-based Westside Works program.

Additionally, as a result of the multiple contracts that Alpha serves as a subcontractor on, it has developed new business relationships with five firms with which it had not worked with prior to this project. Naren Patel, Vice President of Alpha’s Southeast Region says that those companies were introduced to Alpha as a result of outreach efforts hosted early on by the stadium’s builders. Mr. Patel looks forward to the possibility of these new business partnerships that have been forged on the MB Stadium construction project continuing well into the future.

Mr. Patel went on to state that it is important to Alpha to participate in the community and that it views its employees as family. “[Alpha] appreciates the opportunity and fairness in doing the work. This [construction of the MB Stadium] took care of a lot of families.” Alpha considers its employee’s family and the MB Stadium project “put a lot of people to work and that’s a good thing.”
