Introduction

This Executive Summary has been prepared to provide highlights of the Equal Business Opportunity activities and accomplishments that have occurred from contract inception through 30 September 2015, and to illustrate the progress made toward the M/FBE goal of 31% participation on the construction of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium Project (MBS).

As illustrated on the following pages, currently $276,141,262.54 of the total MBS contract value has been committed to M/FBE firms. This figure comprises the total contract dollars awarded to M/FBEs for the entire scope of the project, which includes the development, design, and construction phases of the NSP. Of the total dollars committed to M/FBEs, $121,943,994.20 has been paid through 30 September 2015, to the firms awarded. As of the close of the third quarter of 2015, M/FBE participation on the MBS was at 33.2% of the total contract.

PartnershipsforSuccessEvery now and then a story comes alongthat invokes the thought: “THAT’S a greatstory…”or,“ THAT’S how it is supposed togo…”Thisisoneofthosetimes.

ARSMechanical, LLC is a mechanical contractor that specializes in commercialandindustrialheating,plumbing,ventilationandairconditioning(HVAC)repairs,maintenance,andinstallation.Owners,SadatNichols,andConyersnative,AlfredShepard, founded ARS over 13 years ago and maintain the company’sheadquartersinLithonia,Georgia.ItisanAfrican-Americanowned,DBEcertifiedentity.

ARS is responsible for insulation, fabrication, firestopping,coring,andhydronicdistributionintheMercedes-BenzStadium.Andsobeginsthestarttothisgreatstory.ARSisaprincipalandequitypartnerinthejointventureknownasAtlantaStadiumPartners(“ASP”).ThispartnershipiscomprisedofTDIndustries(basedinTexas) and Southland Engineering (based in California). ARS credits HHRMoutreachinitiativeswithbeingtheconduitforthecompaniesjoiningtogetherforthis venture. In fact, ARS’s president, Sadat Nichols, credits the joint venturepartnership–andthementorshiphiscompanyhasreceivedasaresultofit–asbeinganextraordinarybenefittoworkingonthenewstadiumproject.

It is thiscomponentthatmakesthestoryonetogetexcitedabout. InspeakingwithMr.Nichols,thetruesincerityandappreciationonehearsinhisvoicewhentalkingaboutthementorshiphiscompanyisreceivingissomuchmorepowerfulthanthewordsthemselvesusedtoconveythatmessage.Andeventhen,thefullimport of themessage doesn’t become clear until you speakwith other (non-Atlanta Stadium Partners / non-ARS) members of the construction communitywhomakeitclearthatsuchpartnershipsdonotalwaysofferthatvital,

crucial component of mentorship that Mr. Nichols has come to appreciate somuchonthisstadiumconstructionproject.

In fact,ASP isoneofthe largestsubcontractorsontheMercedes-BenzStadiumproject.1ARS, in its involvement with the stadium construction, not only self-performsbutisalsoinvolvedinthemanagementofthework(andof lowertiersubcontractors)of itsportionofthisconstructionfeat.Thescopeofwork–anditsimplementation–ishuge.Asaresult,ARSisamassinganextraordinarylevelofexperiencethatissuretocatapultitintothehigheststratospheresofitsfield.

WhileARSisnostrangertolargeprojects(itwasajointventurepartnerforworkontheinternationalterminalatHartsfield-JacksonAirport,andithasdoneworkfortheGovernmentServicesAdministrationonfacilitiesinmultiplestates),itstillappreciatestheuniqueeducationthatworkingonacomplex,highprofileprojectsuchastheMercedes-BenzStadiumoffers.

AsaresultofARS’sinvolvementonthestadiumproject,ithasalsoincreaseditsusualranksof33-34employeesbyanadditional14newhires,toensurethat itcontinues tomeet thedemandsofsucha large-scaleproject. Indiscussing themagnitudeoftheworkinvolvedontheMercedes-BenzStadium,Nicholspointedout that “[he] appreciates these efforts for providing opportunities…because itgoesalongwaytogettingEBOfirmsinvolvedinlargescaleprojects….”

And as if that isn’t enough, there is yet another “high-five” component to thiswinningstory.ARS,priortobeginningitsworkonthestadiumconstruction,had

met the necessary qualifications and received the necessary certifications toperformfiresafetywork.NorthstarFireProtection(basedinTexas),thecompanychosentocompletethisportionof theconstruction,washavingtroublefindingAtlanta Metro area–based EBO participation in its niche field. Fast forwardthrough outreach initiatives that brought the two firms together, and the finalresultisthatARSwillalsoself-performthefiresprinklermaterialandinstallationportionofthenewstadiumconstruction.Theby-productofthisportionofARS’scontractual duties is sure to lead to more work in the area of fire sprinklerinstallation.

Expandedscopeofworkopportunitiesandexpandedworkcapacitiesusuallygohand-in-hand with expanded company growth opportunities.
