To: LarryBoyd,ChiefofPoliceFrom: KarinaPerla,RecordsClerk,RecordsSectionDate: September17,2015Subject: EncounterwithAhmedMohamedOnMonday,September14ataround4:00pmand5:00pmIwatchedOfficerTaylorescortAhmedMohamedtohisfamily,whowereintheCommunityServicedepartment.IcouldhearAhmed'sfatherdemandingthattheydropchargesorhewouldnottakehissonhome.AfewminuteslaterAhmedandhisfamilywalkedoutofCommunityServicesandoutofthestation.TheyreturnedandapproachedmywindowandAhmedasked,"CanIhavemydevicesback?'"Ireplied,"Whatdoyoumeanyourdevices?"Hesaid,"Yeahmyclockandmytablet."Ithenpulledupthereport,andlookedinpropertytabandnoticedthatitwaslistedasevidence.Ithensaid,"Youwillneedtospeakwiththepersoninchargeofyourcasebecauseitislistedasevidenceandevidenceisnotreleaseble."Hethenyelledatmeandslammedhishandonthecounterandsaid,"WHYISMYDEVICELISTEDASEVIDENCE?IAMBEINGRELEASED!INEEDITBACKRIGHTNOW!!"ChristinathensteppedinandtoldAhmed,"Youdonotneedtobegettinganattitudewithusbecausewearejusttellingyouwhattheofficertoldus."OfficerHowmanthenpassedby,andsheasked,What'stheproblemhere?"HethenleftourcounterandtalkedtoOfficerHowman.Hewasbeingverydemandingongettinghisdevicesbecausetheysearchedhisbelongingswithouthisconsent.HebecameloudwithOfficerHowman,soMariaDiazandChristinaAnguianowentintoCommunityServicetogetSergeantMitchell.SergeantMitchellthencamewithOfficerTaylorandspoketoAhmed'sfamilylettingthemknowthatthedevicewouldbereleasedtothemoncetheyweredonewithit.AhmedthentoldSergeantMitchellthathehadrightsandheknewwhattheywereandIrvingPoliceviolatedthem.Ahmed'ssisterwasyellingthatitwasjustbecausehewasmuslimthattheythoughthebroughtabombtoschool.Ahmed'sfatherthenaskedtospeakwiththesupervisor,andSergeantMitchelltoldhimthathewasthesupervisor.Acitizenapproachedourdoorandwashesistentonentertingduetothisaltercation.HisfamilybegangettingloudagainaboutgettingAhmed'sdevicesback.SergeantMitchellthensaidthattheycouldtaketheirsonandleavethestationortheywouldbecriminallytrespassedfromthePoliceDepartment.Thesisterthentoldthefamily,"letsgobecausetheyarejustbeingracistbecausewearemuslims."BeforeleavingAhmed'sdadtoldallthreeOfficersthatGodiswatching,andastheywereleavingAhmed'ssisteryelledsomethingintheirlanguage.Theyexitedthestation.
