Tri-City Regional Chamber Chair MessageBy Tony Umek, AKU Enterprises

2017 is a truly an exciting year for the Regional Chamber. Thanks to our members, we are the 5th largest chamber in Washington and recognized nationally for innovative programs like Economic Gardening.

As the voice of business in our community, your Regional Chamber has a focused mission: promote regional prosperity and strengthen our member businesses through advocacy, leadership, networking and innovative business programs. Doing that requires that we continually evaluate our performance to assure we are on target to meet our members’ needs.

We are fortunate to have an outstanding board and staff and they are working together to perform a comprehensive assessment of our performance in meeting our mission. We have targeted some key areas to assess this year and have formed two task force teams: Programs & Events Task Force and Funding Strategy Task Force. As task force teams, they have specific goals and will have a finite lifetime. These two are integrally connected so they are working collaboratively and are making great progress.

In particular, the Events & Programs Task Force is performing a comprehensive review of our programs and events to determine if we are meeting the needs of our members and applying our limited staff resources in the most effective and efficient manner. They have benchmarked approaches used by successful chambers and are leveraging what they learned to assess our events and programs. This task force will be sharing the details of their review and making recommendations to the board in the near future. I am looking forward to their recommendations.

The Funding Strategy Task Force will be working through the summer and will report in the future.

Government Affairs

2017 city couNcil caNdidate QuestioNNaire

As a service to our members, Tri-Cities businesses and residents, the Tri-City Regional Chamber’s Government

Affairs Committee created a 2017 City Council Candidate Questionnaire. It is designed to gather information about

city council candidates' positions on various issues that impact local businesses and the economy. The

questionnaire was distributed to all candidates running for council positions in the cities of Kennewick, Pasco,

Richland and West Richland this year. All responses that are received will be published on the Chamber website,

V.O.I.C.E. and social media mid July. The Regional Chamber is not endorsing candidates; rather, the

questionnaire is simply a tool to increase awareness of the election process and the opinions of candidates.

Primary voting is scheduled to begin July 12, with the deadline for in-person voter registration on July 24. All

ballots must be submitted or postmarked by Election Day on August 1, 2017. For more information on the 2017 Election

or to register to vote, visit www.tricityregionalchamber.com.

Austin Neilson was featured in the spring issue of Washington Business Magazine in the “Generations in the Workplace” article. Austin always does a great job

representing the Regional Chamber with a polished, respectful image.

LOOKING GOOD,

AUSTIN!
