NonProfit StatusPeople refer to YMCAs as charities. But what makes the Y a charitable organization?

The YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area exists solely to benefit the people in your community. As a volunteer-founded, volunteer-led organization, all revenue remains in the YMCA; no profits are paid to a group of shareholders and all YMCA assets belong to the community.

For these reasons, your YMCA seeks charitable contribution to continually meet the needs of the people it serves. Membership dues pay for everyday operations but your YMCA conducts annual fundraising campaigns to raise money for the extra charitable programs that help your community grow strong.

Financial Assistance PolicyBecause the YMCA is community-based and believes that its programs and services should be available to everyone, we offer an Income-Based Membership Pricing structure. This program offers a sliding fee scale that is designed to fit the financial situation of each individual household in our community. We believe people should have access to the programs and services at the YMCA that nurture the spirit, mind, and body – regardless of their personal financial circumstances.

What is Income-Based Pricing? Exactly what it suggests – it is a way to work with families and individuals to assure they, too, can afford to have a YMCA membership, based on the gross annual income of their household. The program uses an income-based rate scale that is designed so that all people may have access to the YMCA, regardless of income.

How do I qualify/sign up?The graduated income-based rate scale is designed for gross annual household incomes up to $60,000 (or an individual earning $50,000 or less). The scale is divided into income ranges and membership categories, which include:· Adult (age 23-64)· Active Older Adult (age 65 and older)· Couple Household· One-Adult Household· Two-Adult Household· Three-Adult HouseholdThose with gross annual household income greater than $60,000 (or an individual earning $50,000 or more) are expected to pay the regular established YMCA fees. Households with gross annual incomes over $60,000 and significant extraordinary expenses may qualify for assistance and should discuss their particular situations with a YMCA Branch Executive. Just bring your most recent 1040 tax forms to the Front Desk of any branch to find out if you qualify and for how much!

Membership SuspensionsThe YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area has the right to either suspend or revoke a membership if a member’s behavior or language is judged to be in conflict with the welfare of YMCA staff or patrons, or in conflict with the YMCA’s mission. The Branch Executive at each branch will render the final decision on a revoked or suspended membership.

Denying MembershipThe YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area reserves the right to deny membership if a prospective member’s behavior or language is judged to be in conflict with the welfare of either YMCA staff or patrons, or in conflict with the YMCA’s mission. The Branch executive at each branch will render the final decision.

Inclement WeatherThe YMCA has developed the following inclement weather policies out of concern for the safety of our members, program participants, guests, and staff. For weather-related closings/cancellations, check our website at www.crmetroymca.org. Also, check local TV/Radio.

If a school has a weather-related cancellation, any youth or adult programs held ON SCHOOL GROUNDS, are cancelled.

Decisions for YMCA youth and adult programs, held at a YMCA location will be made by 3pm on a questionable day.

Child Care Programs: • Early School Dismissals: If school dismisses early due to inclement weather, Child Care will be open. However, the YMCA will not provide van transportation to the sites. Parents/Guardians may bring students to the sites.• School Cancellations: The YMCA will attempt to provide child care when school is cancelled due to weather. The program will start ONLY if the staff can arrive safely to the site. Please call the site coordinator for up-to-date information. (See telephone numbers below.)• School Delays: If the start of school is delayed, the YMCA WILL provide child care. However, if the weather worsens, the YMCA reserves the right to close child care. Parents/Guardians will be notified regarding the time to pick up children.• School Age Child Care program participants should call their Site Coordinator if uncertain about whether or not your site it is open. Site Coordinators’ Cell Phone Numbers: Marion: (319) 551-0120 Truman: (319) 551-0121 Van Buren: (319) 551-3902

Lightning: In the event of lightning, our pools will close for ½ hour after last bolt of lightning has been sighted.

Weekends: Decisions regarding changes in youth/adult programs and classes due to inclement weather will be made as soon as possible and relayed to the local media. Please check www.crmetroymca.org for the most accurate information regarding program status.

Building Closings: In most cases of inclement weather, the YMCA will hold regular hours. HOWEVER, if safety is a concern, the Helen G. Nassif, Marion, and Stoney Point YMCAs may open later or close early. Please check www.crmetroymca.org for the most accurate information regarding our building or program status.

Guest PolicyOur priority, first and foremost, is our Members. With that said, we know there are times when you want to share the YMCA with friends and family members who are not YMCA Members. While we welcome guests, we have found it necessary to make clear our YMCA Guest Policy…

* Guests visiting the YMCA will be charged a guest fee as follows: • $5 per visit per youth (18 and under)

• $10 per visit per adult (ages 19 and older)

• $15 per visit per family (1-2 adults and legally dependent minor children)

And we’re sorry but no youth members are allowed during this time either.

AWAY ProgramThe YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area participates in the National YMCA AWAY (Always Welcome AT YMCAs) program. We welcome AWAY member guests to use our facilities free 12 times per calendar year. After the 12th AWAY visit, AWAY member guests are asked to pay $5 per visit. AWAY member guests may not bring guests, and may not register for programs.

Each YMCA develops its own policies for administering the AWAY program. For that reason, we suggest that you contact the YMCA you are visiting ahead of time to verify their policies. YMCAs that participate in the AWAY program are listed on the YMCA of the USA web site. Go to www.ymca.net and click on “Find Your Y.” Participating YMCAs are highlighted. Instead, the photo is in our computer system, available only to YMCA staff.

Once you receive your permanent card, you must present it at the Front Desk EACH TIME you enter any YMCA branch. If you forget your card, you must show a photo ID to enter any YMCA branch. This policy is in place for your safety and security. (PLEASE NOTE: Lost cards may be replaced for $5)

Lost and FoundThe YMCA is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property. If you believe you have left an item at the YMCA, please check at the Front Desk. Disciplinary ActionWhen YMCA rules and polices are not followed, member/guest privileges may be suspended. YMCA staff will make every effort to listen to all sides of an issue and to be fair when determining consequences. Depending upon the seriousness of the infraction, members/guests may lose their YMCA privileges, either for a specified period of time or permanently. Actions such as physical violence will not be tolerated. YMCA staff will contact law enforcement officials if necessary to deal with issues, such as violence, theft, suspected theft, and unruly patrons.

ActivTraxActivTrax is a revolutionary web-based virtual trainer program that takes the guesswork out of your workout. AND it’s FREE to our members. Simply take a quick 5-step strength test with a fitness center attendant (must sign up for orientation to complete). Then get a personal workout based on your level of ability. Workouts can then be accessed from your home or work computer OR use our free-standing kiosks in the buildings to print out your workout for the day. Then, when finished, kids and adults alike can put in what they just did to keep track of how they are doing working toward those personal goals. Have children who participate in activities at the YMCA? Get them going by recording the activity they do while at the Y. (basketball, soccer, shooting hoops, it all counts!) Teach them early what it means to understand being healthy!

AND, another great aspect of the ActivTrax program is the nutrition component. This additional component complements your work out routine. If you take some time to enter your personal information, it provides a weekly meal plan and even a grocery list for recipes that help you work toward eating better. Struggling with weight? ActivTrax can give you nutritional guidance by recording calories in and calories out.

Strong Kids CampaignThe annual YMCA Strong Kids Campaign (formerly Partnership With Youth) enables the association to pursue its goal of helping people develop to their fullest potential, regardless of their ability to pay.

The purpose of the Strong Kids Campaign is to provide financial assistance to children and families in need. The YMCA asks the community to contribute each year. These dollars help cover the cost of scholarships and allow children and families the chance to participate in and benefit from the many YMCA programs and services. Since 1868, the YMCA has been a very important part of our community. One of the best things the YMCA does is provide youth with positive experiences that help them grow up to live happy, productive lives. YMCA programs provide positive alternatives to the many negative temptations that face youth every day.

YMCA Areas of FocusThe YMCA Areas of Focus are the way we structure ourselves so you can better understand what we do and why we do it. Each Area of Focus has four Offering Categories that define the types of programs and services offered by the YMCA. All YMCA programs and services fall into one of these twelve categories.

For Youth Development Nurturing the potential of every child and teen CHILD CARE

Whether it’s before or after school, summer day camp or the Y’s Early Out Club, the YMCA Child Care program has plenty of activities for your child. Our program focuses on providing children with an educational, nurturing, positive, safe, and diverse atmosphere. Team sports, arts and crafts, character development, social games and youth choices are all aspects of our weekly programming. We provide transportation to and from certain schools. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP

Many of the programs at the Y have an underlying goal of education and/or teaching leaadership skills. It may be during YMCA Camp Wapsie youth retreats or in our home school swim lessons but you can be sure that having kids engage in life-long skill learning is an integral part of the program.

SWIM, SPORTS, PLAY

At the YMCA, everybody plays and everybody is a winner! With the emphasis on participation, each child plays, learns and thrives regardless of size or ability. As a result, your child will learn good sportsmanship, teamwork, build self-esteem, safety and have a great time in any of our youth sports, swim lessons, parents’ night out or other swim, sports or play program!

YMCA CAMP WAPSIE

Camp Wapsie is a year-round facility, located just off the Wapsipinicon River on 172 acres of wetlands and woodlands outside of Coggon. Rental of the camp during the off summer residential camping months is available for family reunions, overnight school programs, school field trips, church groups, scouting groups, or whatever your group can create. When it’s cold outside, Camp Wapsie is warm and beautiful with our heated cabins and lodge. YMCA Camp Wapsie also offers Day Camp, Resident Camp, retreats, and Leader In Training (LIT) and Counselor In Training (CIT). Come and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and natural beauty of the oxbow lake and the multitude of waterfowl, turkeys, and other birds.

For Social Responsibility Giving back and providing support to our neighborsSOCIAL SERVICES

We are a partner in our community. We invest in our community.
