LITEXPO is one of the largest and the most up-to-date exhibition and congress centres in the Baltic States. It features 11 conference and meeting halls occupying more than 4000 m2. The largest multifunctional hall has 2380 seats and can be easily transformed to suit many purposes. Vilnius Contemporary Art Centre is the largest venue for contemporary art in the Baltic States with an exhibition space of 2400 m2. The space is used for a wide range of international and Lithuanian exhibitions, lectures, seminars, performances, film and video screenings. Also inside the building there is the modern CAC Reading Room, used for a number of purposes including the presentation of social, educational and contemporary art events. When the building is not holding exhibitions it can be used as a conference space.

The National Gallery of Art collects and exhibits Lithuanian art of the 20th and 21st centuries and also functions as a multifunctional centre of art and culture. The large space contains eleven galleries dedicated to a permanent collection of art, a grand hall for temporary exhibitions, an open-air exposition court, a multimedia auditorium for conferences and cultural events, an information centre, an educational centre, a bookshop and a café.

The University of Applied Social Sciences is a non-state university known for its impressive architecture, modern design and its advanced technological solutions. There are many available spaces for different kind of events. The biggest conference hall’s capacity is up to 380 seats and two amphitheatre auditoriums accommodate 120 delegates each. The State Small Theatre of Vilnius is located in Gediminas Avenue, the main street of Vilnius. It is one of the most attractive venues in the city’s cultural life. Lithuania has a well-developed long-distance bus network. It is easy and convenient to travel by bus both inside the country and abroad. The city’s bus station is centrally located. It is only a 5-minute walk to the main train station and 10-minute walk to the Old Town. There are direct buses to Vilnius from many European countries. Officially established in 1323, Vilnius is the largest city and the capital of Lithuania. Its Old Town is one of the largest (360 ha) and prettiest in Eastern and Central Europe and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are 542,932 inhabitants in Vilnius. The city is a cultural and economical centre and one of the most rapidly developing Lithuanian cities with a large concentration of administrative authority and business entities.

Geography. Vilnius is situated in south-eastern Lithuania at the confluence of two rivers. It is believed that Vilnius, like many other cities, was named after the river flowing through it, the Vilnia. In 1989, the National Geographical Institute of France determined that the geographical centre of Europe lies 24 km northwest of Vilnius. The current area of Vilnius is 402 sq km. Buildings cover 20.2% of the city and in the remaining areas are covered by greenery (43,9%) and water (2,1%).

Weather. The average annual temperature is +6.1 °C (43 °F). In January, the average temperature is -5.5 °C (20.5 °F), in July it is +17 °C (62.5 °F). Summers can be really hot in Vilnius (up to 30 °C) and winters can be very cold. Temperatures below -25 °C are not unheard-of in January and February. Vilnius’ rivers freeze over in particularly cold winters, and the lakes surrounding the city are almost always permanently frozen during this time of the year.

Hotels. Vilnius offers a wide range of accommodation options, varying from international chain hotels to small family owned boutique hotels. There are 66 hotels, 4,297 rooms, and 8,400 beds in Vilnius. Many hotels are situated in the Old Town and the city centre.

Arriving to Vilnius

Vilnius International Airport is located only 7 km/15-minute drive from the city centre. Access to the city is quick and inexpensive. Guests can use bus, train and taxi services. Buses #1, #2, #88, and #3G run to/from Vilnius International Airport every 10–15 minutes. Scheduled taxis are available every 5-15 minutes. The airport bus station and taxi stand are located outside the Arrival Hall. A special scheduled train runs from the Vilnius Airport to the Vilnius Railway Station with trips taking about 7-minutes. The railway stop, which is accessible by stairs as well as a passenger lift, is located just outside of the airport terminal. Vilnius has a comprehensive and inexpensive network of trolleybuses and buses. They start running at around 4 a.m. and stop at midnight. Some routes operate overnight. Passengers can choose from single-journey tickets, tickets valid for 1, 3 or 10 days, as well as monthly passes that can be used throughout the public transportation network. Taxi

Numerous taxi companies operate in Vilnius. Taxis can be hailed on the street, or found at taxi stands throughout the Old Town and city centre. They can also be ordered at a cheaper rate by telephone or through a variety of smartphone applications, including eTAKSI, taxify, smartTaxi and Uber. Fares are displayed on meters inside each taxi and include service. Tips are paid at the passenger’s discretion.
