MEDIA ACCREDITATION

MEDIA CREDENTIALSIf you want to cover the race, submit names, titles, organization, name of assigning editor, mailing address, phone, fax and e-mail of each person including the assigning editor and email to Randy Clegg at [email protected]. You can prearrange to pick up accreditation passes at 7:30 am on race day at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver, 2nd Floor at the media desk outside the Georgia A&B.

COVERING ELITE ATHLETESCanadian runners will compete against international athletes for a total prize purse of $25,000. Wheelchair athletes compete for a $2,000 prize purse. Limited space is available for media in the lead vehicle, which precedes the elite runners on the route. Reporters or photographers who want to watch the race from the vehicle must call Randy Clegg at 604-209-0611 to reserve a seat.

SOME ADVICE ON COVERING THE VANCOUVER SUN RUNChoose whether you want to cover the start or finish. Unless you’re in the lead vehicle, you are not guaranteed to catch the elite runners at both ends. A VIP shuttle bus can take you from the start line to arrive at the finish line about 9:25 am. Every attempt will be made to arrive before the first participant crosses the finish line. The bus leaves from Burrard St, north of Georgia, at approxi-mately 9:05 am. If you plan to cover the competitive wheelchair, race walk and Elite Women's race, please note that this race starts at 8:40 am and 8:50 am (before the main event). If you choose to cover the start of both events, you will not be at the finish zone in time to cover the first wheelchair athletes as they cross the finish line.

There is no reserved parking, but paid parking is available near BC Place Stadium.

Contact Randy Clegg in advance if you need access to specific runners or locations.

WHERE

Vancouver Sun Runners start on Georgia Street and head west, turn left onto Denman and immediately right onto Robson to start their exodus from the downtown core. They continue on Beach Avenue along the shoreline of English Bay to Hornby Street. Here they take a left-hand turn and tackle the only steep uphill to Pacific and go immediately left again to start crossing the Burrard Street Bridge. They exit on 2nd Avenue, wind their way to Fir Street to join 4th Avenue, and continue heading east on 6th Avenue to the Cambie Street Bridge, for the final stretch across the bridge to the finish line at BC Place Stadium.

RACE DETAILSTIMING SYSTEMThe Vancouver Sun Run uses the MyLaps BibTag timing system. The timing device will be attached to the back of each participant's race number. Do not remove it. Race numbers must be worn on the front of each participant's shirt for the event. Event times are recorded as participants cross the event's timing mats. No timing device = no time.

WAVE START Entrants of similar ability will be grouped into time zones according to their estimated finish times and will start the race in timed intervals.

RESULTSAll participants who cross the finish line will have their names and finish times published in the Vancouver Sun on Monday, April 15.

RACE PACKAGE PICK-UP LOCATION Individual entrants in the 10K or Shaw Mini Sun Run 2.5K must pick up their race number, shirt and timing chip from the Vancouver Sun Run Fair at BC Place Stadium. Team participants pick up their race packages from their team captains and clinic participants from their clinic co-ordinators. No race day package pickup.

VANCOUVER SUN RUN RUNNING ETIQUETTE(Adapted from the BC Athletics Road Race Etiquette Guidelines)

The Vancouver Sun Run is a fun-filled com-munity event. In order for everyone to have an enjoyable and safe experience, consideration of fellow runners, volunteers and race officials is a must. Here are a few etiquette guidelines for runners to keep in mind and to follow as they participate in this world class event!

• Read the website, entry form or other race information. All of the race details you need are probably there. Pay particular attention to deadlines –these help race officials and volunteers to better prepare for race day.

• Pay attention to packet pickup hours. Race packets/numbers are not available outside these guidelines.

• Carefully check your personal information at packet pickup as it is printed on your number. Before the race is the only time to correct any errors such as age, gender, or misspelling of your name. Corrections are made by visiting the race solutions desk before you leave The Sun Run Fair.

• Pin your number on the FRONT of your shirt or outermost clothing and keep it visible at all times, and especially at the finish. DO NOT COVER YOUR RACE NUMBER WITH ANY CLOTHING or you will not receive a race time, as the number contains your timing tag. Announcers, photographers, timers and med-ics use it to help identify you.

• Do not run without a number, or run if you did not register. Doing so can cause errors in the recording of times and positions of those legitimately entered. People who do so are called 'bandits' or ‘turkeys’, and may be re-fused entry into other races.

• Do not allow another runner to use your number. A person running in your place who is of a different gender or a different age group can lead to errors in the results, and deny legitimate winners of their prizes. Also, in the event of an accident or medical condi-tion, wrong information may have serious consequences. Respect the event's policy on transferring entries.

• Stick to the color zone and wave start time that you have been assigned. Do not start the race before your assigned wave start time so as not to impede quicker participants.

• Don't block other runners at any time. Slower runners or walkers must remain on the right side of the road to allow quicker runners to pass on the left. At aid stations, move to the side if you slow down or stop.

• If you need to walk or slow abruptly during the race, move to the side of the road first. If you must leave the course, be sure to return to it at the same point as you left it.

• Remember there are other people in the race, be courteous and allow them to have the same experience that you expect. Think of others.

• Do not stop right at the finish line. Keep mov-ing through the finish area so that others can finish behind you.

• Exit the finish area as soon as possible, to reduce congestion in the area.

• Be courteous to the volunteers, smile and give them a big thank you as you run by. You have an event to run because of them.

• Smile!....and have fun!!
