Distribution in San Miguel de Tucumán

Thanks to an alliance among the Rotary Club Tucumán 9 de

Julio, the Canadian Wheelchair Foundation and CILSA NGO,

58 wheelchairs were distributed to low-income families in San Miguel

de Tucumán capital city. These elements are part of a larger donation

which consists of 280 wheelchairs that the Rotary Clubs of Campbell

River specially managed to bring to this northern province, through the

Rotary Club Tucumán 9 de Julio direct support.

The distribution of the first group of wheelchairs took place at

the Jardín Hotel, on February 23, in coincidence with celebration of

Rotary International’s 106th anniversary. The presentation began with the flag hoisting ceremony and was then followed by the anthems of

Argentina and Canada.

Beneficiaries were welcomed with music, magic acts and colorful balloons which made them smile as they were receiving their brand new

wheelchairs from the members of the Rotary Club of Campbell River,

who especially travelled to our country to participate in the meeting.

After the flag hoisting ceremony, the Rotary Tucumán authorities together with Enrique Poliakof, gave a short speech to the audience. In addition, Laura Wierszylo, National Director in the area of disability of CILSA Social Programs, addressed the beneficiaries and their relatives to give them some useful advice on wheelchairs, and also showed them some examples to be comfortable in moving around.

Page 4: Canadia Wheelchair Fundation

In addition to particular beneficiaries, another three wheelchairs were

delivered as part of a special donation to Natalí Flexer Foundation

which focuses on helping children with cancer. The president, Liliana B. Ramponi, with great emotion, thanked the organizations involved in

the donation and the actions that made possible these elements

were delivered to those who need them most. She also expressed her most sincere thanks and appreciation to CILSA, “for understanding our

job and for supporting our cause.”

To conclude, CILSA representatives delivered recognition certificates

for the effort and hard work which was carried out to make this

presentation possible; to Hans Zhilman as a Rotary Clubs of

Campbell River representative and to Juan Carlos Nievas and

Edgardo Guerrero from the Rotary Club Tucumán 9 de Julio.

The presentation ended with the singing of Fernanda Lizarraga and

Daniela Albornoz, who made the closing of the presentation more enjoyable with songs translated into sign language. After the meeting, people were invited to enjoy some cookies, alfajores and soft drinks donated by Vea Supermarket and Alfajores del Tucumán.

Our thanks to... All the volunteers for their great help| to Jardín Hotel for receiving us | to Flavia, Doctor Clown, for making us happy with her presence | to Alfajores del Tucumán and to

Vea Supermarket for the food donation | to Fernanda Lizarraga and Daniela Albornoz, for their singing at the closing of the meeting.

Beneficiary Condori Daniel Alberto (28), married with 2 children, suffered a motorcycle accident and now he cannot walk.

He used to be the breadwinner and today, after the accident, he is managing to get ahead. However, lack of resources made it impossible for him to have a wheelchair that would enable him to leave the four walls of his bedroom and see the light again.

Thanks to this wheelchair, he will be able to embark on the search path for a new life, and to show a smile to his children.

Then, Silvia Carranza, Vice President of CILSA,

addressed the beneficiaries and their relatives.

In addition, Enrique Poliakof from the Rotary Club

Tucumán 9 de Julio, made a brief historical review of the

origin of this alliance that joins CILSA with different rotary

clubs around the world.

Soon afterwards, he invited two Canadian Rotary-

Hans and Oliver Zhilman- members of one of the donor

institutions, to tell their own experience in Argentina. The closing of the meeting was in charge of the chamamé musical group -“El Federal de Alberdi”- which invited everyone

to dance to the rhythm of regional music.

Distribution in Juan Bautista Alberdi locality

On Friday, February 25 , the enthusiastic group that

had participated in the distribution in San Miguel de Tucumán arrived at Juan Bautista Alberdi. There, the

second distribution of wheelchairs took place and once

again CILSA, the Rotary Club Tucumán 9 de Julio, the Canadian Wheelchair Foundation, and the

Rotary Clubs of Campbell River joined at Salón

Cadipo to distribute 33 new wheelchairs to beneficiaries of the surrounding area.

Everyone enjoyed a friendly and happy atmosphere in

which the foreign representatives offered their presence

and assistance to the local beneficiaries.

Hugo Muroni, president of the Rotary Club

Juan Bautista Alberdi, gave a short welcome speech

at the beginning of the presentation.

Finally, as a token of gratitude and as a remembrance of

the donation, the president of the Rotary Club Juan Bautista

Alberdi, placed a plaque on the central park of the place and

thanked the Rotary International for bringing such a great help to

the region.

Beneficiary Ayosa Jose (10) suffers from

Cerebral Paralysis. Luisa, his mother, told us he

never had a wheelchair, he only had an old baby

stroller so far with which he managed to move

around so as not to be lifted all the time. However, as this stroller had fallen into disrepair, his mother was

forced to lift him several times.

This wheelchair will not only change his life, but it will also “give him a spark of hope and

reliability that there are still people who want to

help”, as his mother pointed out.

MARCH | San Miguel de Tucumán Date: March 26, 2011 – 10:00 am.

Place: Predio Ferial

Number of Beneficiaries: 24

The third distribution from the Canadian

Wheelchair Foundation took place in March, in Tucumán,

with the presence of the Women’s Solidarity Network,

which was our host in every opportunity. They gave us a

warm welcome with music and all necessary comfort so as

the 24 beneficiaries and their relatives, were able to spend a

moment of emotion while considering the new element as

a starting point in their lives.

Volunteers from CILSA and from the Women’s

network received the beneficiaries on a sunny day, at

10:00 am. Everyone was ready and willing, beneficiaries

were received with a smile and were comfortably

accommodated. Afterwards, Enrique Poliakof, member of the

Rotary Club Tucumán 9 de Julio, began the meeting by giving the floor to Daniel Orellana, president of the

Rotary. Then, Gladis Medina, president of the

Women’s Solidarity Network specially thanked CILSA for its unconditional work toward people.

To conclude, Lic. Ana Capmany, Coordinator of

CILSA Social Programs displayed the CILSA programs

which were carried out in the province. She also made a

brief demonstration for the beneficiaries as regards using

and taking care of wheelchairs and then she thanked appropriately.

The presentation ended with nice music, coffee,

and homemade cakes that were made by the women of

the network for the attendees.

Beneficiary Escobar Ana Belén (5) suffers from Spastic Paraplegia. She lives in the Tafi Viejo locality, in a humble neighborhood. Claudia, her mother, did not stop thanking for

such a big donation, which it may not mean much for some

people, but it means a huge change for them. From now on,

Ana will be able to attend Early Stimulation workshops in order

to get better.

Miguel de Tucumán

Number of Beneficiaries: 42

On Wednesday, April 20, at 10:00 am, the distribution of wheelchairs that CILSA organizes every month took place at the

“Flavio Virla Cultural Center”, which is located on 25 de Mayo

Street, 265 in San Miguel de Tucumán capital city. There, 42 beneficiaries received their assigned element: 29

of them received wheelchairs, and 13 received different types of

The meeting began around 10:30 am, when the beneficiaries and their relatives took their places at Salón A

on the first floor. They were welcomed by many volunteers

summoned by CILSA, who kindly donated their time to

collaborate in this solidarity meeting.

wheelchairs, she invited the attendees to enjoy some cookies and soft drinks, exchanging stories and fostering

an environment of inclusion.
