“I am with you always, until the end of the age.” ~ Matthew 28:20
Monday, May 29th Masses at 6:30 & 8:00am (No Evening Holy Hour)
2 | Queen of All Saints Basilica • Chicago, IL
On May 19th, over 720 parishioners, friends and visitors gathered on our Field of Dreams, under a sprawling tent, to celebrate community, have fun, and raise funds that will enable us to continue our work of building the Church together through the ministries of Word, Worship and Service. Although it rained for most of the morning that day and was a little bit on the chilly side, we all know that Chicago weather can be full of surprises, and it didn’t dampen the spirit of the evening.
As people gathered under the tent that was transformed into an elegant setting for dining and dancing, you could witness a sense of growth and building of community. People who hadn’t seen one another in recent times were catching up, strangers were introduced to one another to forge new relationships, people were supporting each other by helping them buy raffle items, cheering and caring for each other and inviting others join in the celebrations. This sense of community building was very much in evidence in the work of the many Committee members who in the months building up to this day have truly become an interdependent community, working together as a team to create for all of us a day to remember and enjoy. I would like to gratefully acknowledge the following members of the event leadership committee for their contribution of time and talent.

I cannot say enough in gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful work of the Chairs of our Field of Dreams 2017, Patti Braasch and Laura Honda. From a little office in the basement of the rectory, these two women put in countless hours to plan, build a team, coordinate the efforts of many and orchestrate a spectacular evening. To their inspiring leadership, we all owe a debt of gratitude. As the evening progressed, I tried to make my way around the tent, and it gave me great joy to know that, first of all, people were having fun, and second to learn of the pride people take in being part of this community and commitment to support the many ministries of this faith community. I thank each and every one of you who through your presence and your participation helped to celebrate community and raise funds. God Bless you! ~ Father Simon Braganza

SPRED: SPecial Religious Education Development
The Queen of All Saints SPRED group has been together since April 2001. Throughout these
years we, the adults, as well as the children, have grown in many ways. We are truly a family and have shared many important occasions together and have witnessed the sacraments of Communion and Confir-mation with some of our special friends.
The SPRED program at QAS consists of about 22 sessions, 11 sessions with only the adult cate-
chists, and the other 11 sessions with the total community, meaning the catechists and our special friends. Each adult catechist joins with a special friend on a 1-to-1 basis during our total community sessions. Currently, we have 6 special friends - Calvin, Lucas, Andy, Ryan, Mikolaj, and Evan. MaryBeth Schulian-Macias is the Leader Catechist, Pat Ramos is the Activity Catechist, and Pat Noble, Coleen Martin, Jackie Ceisel, Sheila Foust, Sue Thomas, and Sandra Dilla-Hammer are the Helper Catechists for our 11-17 year old group. We meet on Monday nights in the Holy Name Room for our 2.5 hour sessions. If you have any questions regarding the SPRED program at QAS, please feel free to call Sandra Dilla-Hammer, Parish Chairperson, at 773-777-4719, or email at [email protected]
Children and adults with disabilities have the right to grow in faith. Our incredible SPRED ministry invites us to walk together with a friend on a journey of faith to discover God in the presence of one another. The SPRED group wishes to express our thanks to the Pastoral Staff and the parishioners of Queen of All Saints Basilica for your continued support and thoughtful prayers.
Please let Paul Scavone know of any conflicts for the months of July, August, and September.
Please call the Rectory (773-736-6060) or e-mail [email protected]. We need this
information by Monday, June 5th. Thank you!

Ascension of the Lord—May 28, 2017
Please consider what we can give back to our parish, in our time, our talent, and our treasure,
in response to the great gifts God has given us.
“I am praying for them…” - JOHN 17: 9 Prayer is the foundation of our Faith and the foun-dation of Stewardship. Pray in good times and in bad. Prayer is always the first best option in any situation, not just the last resort. Pray for friends and family and for those that don’t treat you very well. Pray to give praise, to thank and to ask God for help. Pray to see what God wants you to do with the gifts He has given you.
Stewardship—Looking Ahead to Summer The end of the month of May means summer is right around the corner after plenty of chilly weather and rain. Flowers are blooming and trees are budding. And Christian stewards are reminding themselves that stewardship continues as we head into the days of vacation, barbecues, summer reading lists, family reunions and trips to the beach. Christian stewards are well aware of the summer needs of the less fortunate, as well as being aware of their own need to give throughout the year. For the Christian steward, the spirituality of gratitude to God is part of their everyday lives and motivates their generous heart On a practical level, this can mean involving your whole family in a summer project at a local charity. With kids out of school, there’s a great opportunity to fill some idle hours with some eye-opening charitable ventures to a part of the city they’ve never seen, or an agency they’ve never visited. Back here at home, remember that our Basilica will remain open for our usual Mass schedule despite the intensive work necessary to replace our ceiling. Bringing the whole family to Mass every weekend is a great way to stay connected to our parish And if you are fortunate to enjoy an occasional weekend away from town, this would be a great time to enroll in our electronic giving program. Just go to our parish website at qasparish.org, click on the Give Central logo and follow the prompts. Thanks for all you do for us and for others!

Our parish needs our help especially now. We realize that our parish’s calls for our help seem never to take a break. We’ve just finished our United Parish Program event, and thanks to the generosity of our parishioners we can look forward to finishing off our fiscal year on June 30 on budget. At the same time, however, we have to look ahead to the coming fiscal year and find we need to ask our parishioners to consider an increase in their Sunday offering to pay for the cost of our recently begun Basilica ceiling project, which is an unexpected and very significant need, and is on top of our already successful capital campaign To Teach Who Christ Is: From Generation to Generation. Throughout the wonderful history of our parish there has been an uninterrupted series of very positive responses to calls for support. We know that the challenges we face today will be met with the same success that our predecessors in this parish achieved!
Thank you for all you do for our parish and please know that you are always welcome here!

The Sacrament of Baptism Queen of All Saints rejoices in the incorporation of new members into the Body of Christ through the Sacrament of Baptism. If you are a registered parishioner, please come into the rectory during business hours to schedule your child's baptism. If it is not possible for you to come into the rectory, please call the rectory to make arrangements. The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is celebrated two or three Sundays of the month, depending on the time of year, at 1:30 PM - call the rectory for the exact schedule. A Baptismal Preparation class for the parents is required. They are held once a month and must also be scheduled in advance. If an adult or a school age child seeks baptism, special arrangements should be made with one of the priests.
The Sacrament of Matrimony Queen of All Saints helps couples prepare not only for their wedding day, but the lifelong commitment of living a Christian marriage. Parishioners of Queen of All Saints Basilica who are baptized and free to marry in the Catholic Church may celebrate their marriage in Queen of All Saints Basilica. Couples from Queen of All Saints seeking marriage in Queen of All Saints Basilica should contact one of the parish priests at least six months prior to their intended date of marriage. The couple must meet with one of the priests before the date for the marriage can be confirmed.
Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those who are at the point of death. As soon as one of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him/her to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived. Therefore, any member of the faithful who is seriously ill because of sickness or advanced age, may properly receive this sacrament.
