President’s MessageApril at the Club was, in a word, AMAZING. With the course greening up rapidly, and the practice facility project coming along nicely, golfers young and old should be proud of what we have. This month’s BIG “THANK YOU” goes to Rob Pearse, for his spearheading the project to bring our range renovation to fruition. Thanks also to Pat Rose, his staff, and Rob Collins of King & Collins for the work done in less than desirable weather conditions to have the range reopen: (On Mats Only - Stay Off The Newly Sewn Grass Areas)
For the house, I would like to say “THANK YOU” to Debbie Durham for donating a professional grade steamer to the club. This will be put to great use!
Socially, the main attraction was Easter Brunch with over 200 members and guests. The final Trivia Night for the Spring was a big success, as well as the dinner club and several private parties.
If April was amazing, May is shaping up to be in a word: MAGNIFICENT.Highlights for golfers will be the Signal Mountain Invitational, May 17, 18 &19. There is always room for more players and/or sponsors. Sign up in Pro Shop.
Socially, big events will be Mother’s Day Brunch, Memorial Day Cookout, and Pool opening. We’ve already began getting the pool ready for a great summer.
Check for information on all events in other parts of the newsletter. Also, check the calendar for the activities and dates. Participate in as many as you can to get full value for your membership.
See you at YOUR club,Jeff

Out of the RoughI’m happy to report that construction of the new Practice Facility is complete. The team has been balancing detail work at the facility with rapidly increasing duties on the golf course. We anticipate opening the new short game green, new bunkers and the new natural grass tee in late May. Until that time please keep off these areas and allow them to mature properly. More news to come on this front as the Grand Opening date gets finalized. Thanks to all our project donors for making this vision a reality!
The following pictures show how far the project has come in the past few weeks. The biggest factor has been the arrival of warm temps. Bentgrass and ryegrass seedlings like a little warmth to get moving. With the exception of areas that have been eroded in storms, I’m very pleased with our turf stand at the facility.
Please follow the Department’s Twitter account @SMGCCTURF for updates on what the team is working on. Information is generally updated daily during the golf season. See you on the course!Pat

Signal Mountain Invitational The 83rd Signal Mountain Invitational is just around the corner. The event will be held May 17th-19th. The Invitational is one of the premier amateur events in the southeast. The tournament always draws a very strong field that typically includes several of our members. I hope this year will be no different. The unique thing about the Invitational is that it appeals to all ranges of golfers. The championship flight will house some of the best amateurs in the area while the Double Bogey Max division will include golfers with a 10.0 handicap or higher. We hope to once again have a great turnout from our membership competing in this great event this year. If you cannot participate but still wish to help out, we are still accepting sponsorships. Sponsorships are $100. The sponsorship fee will get your name or company name listed on the sponsorship board displayed at the putting green for the entire tournament, your name listed on all of the cart signs, and listed on next year’s invitation. The sponsorship will also get you an invitation to a great party held at the Country Club Friday, May 19th. Please contact the golf shop if you would like to sign-up or sponsor. One additional way to help this great event succeed is through voluntary efforts. With several blind tee shots and some participants playing this course for the first time, we love to have spotters out on the golf course to help players find the occasional errant tee shot. We also need volunteers to help at the scoring table. Please contact the golf shop if you would like to volunteer.
