The Directors are pleased to introduce the first edition of your newsletter” Sen- ior’s Moments”. This newsletter is the brain child of Past President Phil Boase who will edit and produce it. We think the title is a good one and appropriate for our Club and its members. All of us have had “Senior’s Moments” some good some bad but invariably humorous. We would particularly like to hear about the humorous ones and if appropriate and topical will print them in future newsletters. As most of you know our club was formed on April Fools Day 1970 but it was certainly not a joke. In the past 39 years our club has flourished to the point of being one of the most sought after golf memberships in BC. All of us had to wait several years before we were invited to join. Why do so many golfers want to become members? Everyone will have a different answer but the most often heard reason is the spirit of camaraderie that prevails within our club. Certainly all of us join for the opportunity to play golf once a week on an excellent golf course at very reasonable rates. For most of us though it’s much more than that, it’s the opportunity to play with a great group of men in the true spirit of good fellowship and good sportsmanship. The chance to play every week with a different foursome in a well organized format is priceless. The smooth operation of the Club is no accident. From the very beginning, the Club has been blessed with selfless mem- bers whose only interest has been the furtherance of golf and its long traditions. Mere desire however, is not enough. Talented, knowledgeable and skilled indi- viduals continue to come forward, learn new tasks, and freely donate their time for the benefit of others. Each year nearly half of the 140 playing members serve in volunteer roles. If you have an interest in one of the positions be it a Director, Draw- master, Starter or Scorer, let us know. held on Thursday, October 23 at Eagle

The Directors are pleased to introduce the first edition of your newsletter” Sen-ior’s Moments”. For all you die-hard golfers that missed most of December and January due to the white rain, I would like to apologize for any inconveniences that you may have encountered!! On a brighter note, Burnaby Mountain Golf Course as you know it will be under going numer-ous up grades and modifications in 2009. First of all you will notice new poles up in the Driving Range. New netting will be installed by year end to accommodate the new two-story Driving Range Facility which will be state of the art. New drain-age has been installed and we will find the range area much drier for easier ball pick up and elimi-nate ball plugging as in the past.

The golf course will see additional drainage as well. The new drainage system will totally en-hance the quality of play year round and allow golfers to enjoy our fine facility even during the WET MONTHS. This system is already functional at Riverway and we are experiencing very positive results on that course. You should give it a try. Also look for our golf tips and product information www.golfburnaby.net. Keep it down the middle and long!!! Don Mark, Head Professional Burnaby Mountain Golf Course

A regular feature in your newsletter will be a Mystery Photograph taken somewhere on the Burnaby

Mountain Golf Course. Members will be required to submit a special form with their guess as to the lo-

cation of the photograph. The scene must be described according to the information requested on the

form. All correct forms received in the Clubhouse on the second Wednesday (played) after the publica-

tion date of this newsletter will be entered into a putting contest, the winner to get a sleeve of balls.

Your Directors have been working closely with the ProShop on the challenge to reduce the number of “No-

Shows” on our designated Wednesday golfing days.

A "NoA "NoA "NoA "No----show (as defined by the Proshop) is a person who does not golf at his appointed time and fails to communicate with ei-show (as defined by the Proshop) is a person who does not golf at his appointed time and fails to communicate with ei-show (as defined by the Proshop) is a person who does not golf at his appointed time and fails to communicate with ei-show (as defined by the Proshop) is a person who does not golf at his appointed time and fails to communicate with ei-

The plan is to compare the original drawsheet with the final drawsheet as produced by the Starter to iden-

tify the names appearing on the original and not on the final. Those members thus identified will be con-

tacted by phone to check on their well-being.

The Directors realize there will be extenuating circumstances (rain the night before resulting in cart paths

only the next morning etc.) for not golfing at the designated time. However it is hoped this initiative will

make the members more aware of this perennial problem.
