SHORT AMT HISTORY • AMT was created in November 1991 in Bielsko –

Biała as the first Teacher’s association in Poland.

• In the Founding Convention took part over 200 teachers from Polish schools and colleges and foreign guests which are the members of similar associations in the countries of European Union.

• The first chairman was professor Ph.D. Wacław Zawadowski.

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT • The present members of the department , from the

beginning of SNM, have been participating in SNM works. Some of them were also members of the main management.

• Professional rich experiences, which were collected during trainings and conferences, were a stimulus to establish a new department during 12th National Conference in Międzyzdroje in 2003.

• Group of twenty-eight math teachers from Silesia met in the hotel room in really untypical conditions.

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

• An organizing committee was composed of: Marta Kądziołka (ex- methodological adviser to mathematics in Bytom, at present senior citizen), Zofia Majerska (teacher at the Complex of Sports Schools No. 2 and at the primary school No. 25 in Chorzów), Zofia Miczek (ex-methodological adviser to mathematics in Chorzów, at present senior citizen), Katarzyna Sikora (teacher at the complex of secondary modern schools No. 1 in Chorzów and methodological adviser in Chorzów) and Ewelina Szmigiel (teacher of the secondary school No. 5 of Paweł Steller in Katowice).

• The committee was authorised to take up working associated with establishing the department in Silesia.

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT • Execution of tasks, in accordance with SNM

procedures, let maths teachers to the first general meeting of Silesian SNM members which took place on 5th September 2003 at the secondary school No. 5 of Paweł Stellera in Katowice.

• About 100 teachers participated in it. • Ph.D. Grażyna Rygał (researcher of the

Academy of Jan Długosz in Czestochowa) and Ewelina Szmigiel was leaded by them .

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

• The first term of office began under Ewelina's Szmigiel (Katowice) and Alicja’s Radek (Kłobuck) leadership.

• Thanks to disinterestedness of headmistress Jolanta Motyka – the primary school No. 25 of Stanisław Hadyna in Chorzów, we gained a place for the office. The idea was supported by the Deputy of Mayor of Chorzów – Ph.D. engineerJoachim Otte.

• Management board of the department, boosted favour of authorities, started activity really intensive.

Methodology Workshops have been leaded by our members during conferences and meetings from

1994 to 2009.• Altogether the team accomplished 110

workshops on a wide variety of issues (up till 18th KK SNM in Radom)

Conferences organized by Katowicko-Częstochowski department of AMT

• Since the very beginning the department was either a sole organizer, or cooperated with other organisations. AMT a large number of regional conferences for teachers. On average they took place in SP nr 25 in Chorzów which is the headquarters of the department, in The Teachers' training Centre WOM in Katowice, or in Jan Długosz’s Academy in Częstochowa.

Cooperation of the department• While organizing all mentioned conferences

Katowicko – Częstochowski department of Maths Teachers Association cooperated with Regional Center for Teacher „WOM”, Jan Dlugosz’s Academy in Czestochowa, Polish Mathematical Society, Elementary Teaching Teachers Association and with Polish Animators of Celestin Freinet’s Education Association.

Department Objectives’• In arranging the above-mentioned conferences Katowicko -

Częstochowski Department of Maths Teachers Association executed numerous, consistent with the statutory objectives such as: ways of using simple teaching resources, working with a pupil with special educational needs, advantages and disadvantages of using Internet in the teaching process, familiarising teachers with the possibilities and benefits of participation in EU programs, disseminating examples of good practice in external cooperation,giving information about the participation of Polish teachers in the international project „Calibrate”, sharing experience in the use of modern technology and teaching materials from different countries, and many others.

• During the conferences the variety of activities deserve for attention: from lectures, workshops, classes, "open" classes in the schools, maths night talks to concerts of regional teams.

• Many of the mentioned activities were conducted by experienced members of the Maths Teachers’ Association: prof. Wacław Zawadowski, prof. Henryk Kąkol, Ph.D.Krystyna Dałek , prof. Grażyna Rygał, Ph.D.Leszek Rudak , Ph.D.Zdzisław Pogoda, prof. Wiktor Bartol, sister Leokadia Wojciechowska and others.

Maths Paper Cafe• Maths Paper Cafe (MPC) has been working since 2003

as one of the activities of Katowicko – Częstochowski Department of Maths Teachers Association.

• Teachers, from different cities, who are interested in this kind of activity meet regularly in the Library of Education at Sportowa St. No.21 in Chorzow.

• During the meetings, teachers make simple didactic tools (eg. using origami technique), to support creative teaching and educational process. They share their experiences and gather the thematic literature.

Maths Paper Cafe

• MPC has got its own logo and chronicle and publishes newsletter.

• Members of MPC during regional and national conferences lead trainings for mathematics teachers and pupils from Silesia.

• Organized many trainings in Katowice, Bedzin, Chorzow, Gliwice and Zabrze.

• In 2004 MPC has had a special guest - Agata Wierzbic who is the author of the book „Maths origami. Figures with edges.” (publishing house ‘Kleks’, Bielsko-Biała 2000).

• During the meeting, maths teachers have been taught how to make Platons’ solid from paper by origami technique.

• Different places are decorated by MPC members works (also during conferences), which can also be nice gifts.

In 2004, 2006 and 2008 at Sport School no 1 in Chorzów the event called Meeting of

Creatives teachers from Chorzów took place.

• MPC was a participant

of these meetings.• The photo shows

effects of teachers work.

• The most active members of MPC are Zofia Majerska, Ewa Skalska, Zyta Chmiel, Katarzyna Sikora, Zofia Miczek, Beata Turos, Irena Szewczyk.

• Many interesting exhibitions were organized by Barbara Pfutzner from Gliwice.

Creative Maths Teachers’ Club (www.kknm.tk)

• The club started activity in a school year 2008/2009.

• The club was founded by Katarzyna Sikora, Agnieszka Kołodziej, Karolina Długaj and Zofia Majerska.

• The club is based on the Pedagogical Library in Chorzów, 21 Sportowa street.

• All teachers from different schools levels can participate in the club’s meeting.

Creative Maths Teachers’ Club

• Aims of the club existence are:– teachers cooperation,– mathematics teachers integration,– work quality improvement, – broaden the mind,– exchange experience,– creativity development,– learning about new methods of teaching,– learning about new teaching aids.

Section of cooperation between teachers from 1st and 2nd stage of teaching

• Maths Teachers Association - department Katowicko- Czestochowski has a section which concerns cooperation between mathematics teachers, who work with children from 7 to 12 years old. This range joins two different stages 1st and 2nd. There used to be some disagreements in the past but now, thanks to the cooperation, meetings and working together the atmosphere is getting much better.

• When teachers meet each other, talk, and work together atmosphere is getting much better.

• Zofia Miczek who is the methodology adviser of teaching maths came up with this idea.

• Formally the section has been existing since 2008, but the first action took place in 2005.

• It was the conference „We care about mathematics competences between 1st and 2nd stage of education”. This event was prepared by Maths Teachers Association - Katowicko - Częstochowski department. Initial Education Teachers Association (SNEP), Polish Association of Celestyn Freinet Pedagogy Animators participated in it too.

• During the conference teachers were shown different teaching aids, simple methods which used to make maths teaching easier.

• Psychologists were talking about abilities of children minds. They also discussed problems with acquisition.

• The next venture was the analysis of mathematic contents included in textbooks for the first three classes. It was the analysis of the textbooks used at schools in Chorzów.

• The teachers who use these textbooks left comments and prepositions of changes. Some of these comments were accounted by one of the textbooks publishers .

• Teachers saw a need to talk about such topics: the axis of numbers, the numeral and the number, the circumference of polygon.

• The work on these general topics showed that there is a big necessity to work together: teachers of first three classes and teachers of older classes.

• On 29th September 2007 SNM has organized the conference about „The Integrative Function of Mathematics”

• Ph.D. Krystyna Dałek gave a lecture on the effectiveness of teaching pupils in first classes.

• Mrs. Sabina Lorek gave a lecture on the maturity of children to continue learning after the third class.

• There were presented papers about pedagogical innovations and creative mathematics teaching methods.

• The main elements of conference were „open lessons” conducted by experienced teachers.

• On conference there were four ‘open lessons’ - two lessons was conducted by maths teachers who work with children in the second stage of Primary education, and two lessons conducted by teachers who work with children in the first stage of Primary education.

• These lessons were the reason to discuss and make observations on cooperation between

teachers of different levels.

• 9th April 2008 SNM has organized the conference: „The Promotion of Students’ Development by Evaluating”.

• Systems of evaluating and marking students at schools in Chorzow were different.

• There appeared the idea to prepare uniform system of evaluating and marking students on first stage of Primary Education in Chorzów – the scoring-based evaluation.

How to help our students in planning their development.

• Every teacher feel a need to check what exactly the students know.

• In 1995 established the group of mathematics teachers for preparing some tests.

• This group consisted of five people: Marta Kądziołka, Zofia Majerska, Zofia Miczek, Katarzyna Sikora, Anna Ząbkowska – Petka.

• The group has prepared a lot of tests, for all levels of teaching: the grammar school, the lower secondary school and the higher secondary school.

• In November 2005 tests were published on the web-page of Internet Center of Learning Resourses „Scholaris”.

• They were tests on:The area and the circumference of polygons.The algebraic expressions.The percentage calculations. The properties of shapes. The properties of natural numbers and their divisibility.The equations and inequalities solving.

• These are the multiple choice quizes, complementing quizes, true-false type quizes. You can find these materials on the web-page: http://www.scholaris.pl

• A large number of learning resourses of „Scholaris” were used in the international project „Calibrate”.

• Katarzyna Sikora and Zofia Majerska took part in the international project „Calibrate”. A lot of informations about this project were published in the magazine: Nim+TI number 67 (Autumn 2008) and the book published after the 18th National Conference of SNM.

Articles in NiM and in NiM+TI(quarterly SNM – ‘Teachers and Mathematics’,

presently ‘Teachers and mathematics plus their technology experience )

• Mathematics teachers of our regions share their experiences on the quaterly.

• Teachers have written 41articles.

Mathematical competitions organized by executive member of the department Mrs.

• ‘Jankomat’ competition was made in Prim.Sch.No.4 in Pyskowice because of the Mathematics Day,

• Groups of pupils from the sixth classes on the first stage have to: prepare two pictures and solid model, write an ode to quadrandle, prepare note about famous mathematician and dress up somebody as a this famous mathematician, make a watchword connected with maths, choose 3 people team which represtents class in the knowledge competition and choose people for preparing origami (from circles and squares).

Mathematical competitions organized by executive member of department Bozena Nowicka in Pyskowice

• Pupils solved text tasks on the 2nd stage, tests of types solved „ mathematical associations”, proverbs to say, in which there is a number.

• Interschool competition „ Mathematical Rebus 2007 ” for pupils from 4th to 6th class.

• On the 1st stage pupils had to invent mathematical rebus. Winners had to solve three rebuses one-word rebus, two-words rebus and one higher difficulty rebus.

• Competition ‘Kaleidoscope’ was conducted during one of the Mathematician conferences in Muszyna. Even number of participant has taken part in this competition. The purpose of competition was to show interesting ideas for preparing lessons and school competitions. Pairs were solving mathematical problems, make mathematical associations and crosswords.

• Competition” Matmiliada” was conducted during Mathematician conference in Grudziądz. The idea was taken from the quiz show Familiada. In the competition took part prominent mathematicians man – Bernoullich and prominent mathematician woman – valuable Cycloides. Families answered to questions prepared by members of – Katowicko- Częstochowski department of SNM. They concerned question about pupils, discipline on the lessons and school behavior. They have been prepared on the basis of questionnaire carried on 100 randomly chosen pupils.

• Due to bank „last anchorage” – the sponsor of that competition, the prize for winners was 1 000 000 zlotych.

Management of the departmentin in Silesian costume which Prim.Sch. No.25 in Chorzow received from Polish National Song and Dance Ensemble "Śląsk"

CLUB OF CREATIVE TEACHER- „ MAT”• Since 2004 in Zabrze acts club of creative teacher „ Mat”. • Founders of it is Mrs. Ewa Gaweł was the methodical advisor of

maths teacher (presently inspector working in Gliwice) and maths teachers working at the Primary Schools in Zabrze.

• Many city competitions was organized for children of Primary schools and High school: Mathematics Thread Sewed, Small Mathematical Olympic Games, Everywhere is Mathematics – Competition of maths and science, Mathematical Crossword, Origami and Mathematics, Small Pythagoras, I see only green-Mathematical Whirls of Head, Mathematics for the best grade, Photo and Mathematics.

• Majority of this competitions proceeds for today and they are huge success among pupils, teachers and parents. It was possible to observe post-competitive exhibitions in city libraries in Zabrze.

• Teachers under direction of Mrs. Ewa Gaweł have written and expelled „Cards of works for fifth classes” from personal resources .This is a curious package of mathematical task including whole material instructs and it is based on program basis.

• Form of tasks deserves for your attention , their diversity and not commonplace topics. They are very convenient for teachers in because they are photocopiable, package includes key answers and grading scale. it can be additional instrument for checking and evaluating.

• On the „Mat” meetings teachers have shared their experiences, they teach each other new forms of teaching, and curious activating methods. They also build didactic equipment taken advantage on lessons with pupils.

• Internet site has been also publishe. On this site teachers can publish materials, transfer informations etc.
