We extend a warm welcome to our new activated members; January and February is when most of the membership turnover occurs. Those still on the waiting activation list are encouraged to take advantage of the House and Grounds Rule allowing one visit per month. Attending a private or special club event, such as Flag Raising, Future Member Reception, Summer Bash Party, etc., does not count against the limitation. This year when visiting the club, members are asked to provide their membership number as printed on the membership card received with the annual dues invoice. This is necessary since we are a 501 (c) (7), tax exempt social club and required by regulators to separate revenues received from members versus nonmembers. A good way to accomplish this is to identify transactions by using the member’s club number. This is the same procedure used by almost all social clubs, and we ask for your cooperation. Most numbers are three digits and should be easy to remember. To assist with this effort, we will have a list of member numbers available at the cash registers. Also we are in the process of implementing a Point of Sales system at the front door and at the bar. This will help speedup the payment process, improve accuracy and eliminate preparing time- consuming sales summaries for the Manager and Treasurer. A reminder to all members; it is the responsibility of members to sign in their guests when attending a club function. ur year began on February 4th, with Past Secretary & Director Mr. Dick Phillips swearing in the 2016 board

members. Mom’s Home Cooking immediately followed with an enthusiastic crowd that kicked off the beginning of our new year.

This is necessary since we are a 501 (c) (7), tax exempt social club and required

by regulators to separate revenues received from members versus nonmembers. A good way to accomplish this is to identify transactions by using the member’s club number. This is the same procedure used by almost all social clubs, and we ask for your cooperation. Most numbers are three digits and should be easy to remember. To assist with this effort, we will

have a list of member numbers available at the cash registers.

Also we are in the process of implementing a Point of Sales

system at the front door and at the bar. This is a payment system that uses a touch screen iPad that records sales information relaying it to our bookkeeping system on the Treasurer’s

computer. This will help speedup the payment

process, improve accuracy and eliminate preparing time-

consuming sales summaries for the Manager and Treasurer.

A reminder to all members; it is the responsibility of members to sign in their guests when attending a club function. This is important and strictly enforced by the Virginia ABC regulators.

member, Joe Perdue conducted a structural inspection on the

integrity of “B” Dock. He determined that the dock was sound enough to proceed with the installation of a new electrical system. An electrical contractor has been engaged to replace the electrical system. The target date for the completion of the new system is April 15th.

Commodore Tom Flounders, Rear Commodore Dan Reno, Club Manager Mark Letchworth, Fleet Surgeon Pete Jennette, and I conducted the annual general inspection of the Mathews Yacht Club. The inspection went as planned and all members of the committee were satisfied with the results. The areas inspected were as follows:

Inside facilities: bar, dining rooms, kitchen, kitchen storage, and outside work areas.

Outside facilities: building, grounds, storage, parking, and pool.

Safety Equipment: was present and in good working order

Upgrades: In addition to the January cleaning, Club Manager, Mark Letchworth, replaced and retiled the office floor, replaced the lighting in the kitchens with seven new cost efficient light fixtures.

It is evident that Mark and his staff have worked hard. Everything looks great. The club looks neat, shipshape and orderly. We are ready for business. Thank you again for doing a great job.

And remember to save the Date: April 16th

MYC Club Work Day

ebruary was here and has gone already, but not without some interesting events during the

month. So let me tell you about a couple of those events.

The Club opened the doors officially by having our Officer’s Installation Ceremony after cocktails and some very delicious appetizers were served. For those who selected to stay for dinner they enjoyed one of Mark’s great Mom’s Home Cooking Night meals.

Next, the Valentine’s Dinner Dance was held on February 13th. Those attending were treated to a great meal followed by entertainment. The entertainment for dancing or just sitting at your table relaxing and listening was provided by the much requested group – “Out on a Limb.”

Now moving on to March. Our New and Future Member’s Reception will be held on Saturday the 19th so watch for an e-minder regarding this event.

On March 27th our always very popular Easter Sunday Brunch will be held. There will be an abundance of wonderful food for your taste buds to savor on that day. There will be a delicious selection of freshly prepared foods from omelets and waffles to fruits and baked sweet treats and everything in-between. So be sure to make your reservations in a timely manner-which means “EARLY” folks!

s we get closer to the summer boating season, I want to focus on three important yachting

issues: the club's summer cruise schedule, boating safety and annual slip rentals. And, yes, we have slips available for members to rent.

First, please note that the 2016 Calendar of Events has been posted on the MYC website. We have five cruises scheduled for this boating season. If you are interested in leading a cruise please contact me. I will hold a planning meeting at the club in April to finalize cruise plans. Our 1st cruise is a Shakedown Cruise on 21 May.

Second, I would like to encourage club members to sign up for, “About Boating Safety,” the course that the USCG Auxiliary will be holding on Saturday, March 5 at our clubhouse for club members. The agenda for the day is: 0800-0830 On-site check-in 0830 Instruction starts 1200 Lunch ($10 charge for those interested) 1530 Final exam 1630 Instruction complete

This beginner boating class will give you the knowledge needed to obtain a boat operator’s certificate. This certificate will be required of all boat operators in Virginia as of 1 July 2016 and will be presented at the successful completion of the course and examination. Many boat insurance companies will offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who successfully complete About Boating Safely.

The fee is $25 per person or $35 for a couple sharing a book. Advance registration is required to insure adequate material for the course is available. Read more about the course at: http://www.aboutboatingsafely.com/. Please RSVP to Ted Broderson, Public Education Officer for Flotilla 66 at [email protected].

Third, our Treasurer has recently mailed slip rental renewal invoices. There is a 10% late fee added to all fees not received by April 1. Any current slip holder wishing to renew and not receiving an invoice or any member wishing to rent a slip please contact me: [email protected].

Finally, Chris & I look forward to flying my Fleet Captain flag on Plover, our 41’ Dickenson.

!

LIQUOR LOCKERS are available at the club for $40 per year. Interested members may contact me, Dick Hellier, by phone, 804-725-3858; or email, [email protected].

The rules for locker use are in the House Rules section of your member handbook. As a reminder: ABC regulations, require all bottles in a locker must have a label with the name and two initials of the locker owner.

Cheers!
