Designed for pre-experience and early
career professionals, the Master of
International Business provides students
with an understanding of the key concepts
of international business with a global
perspective, and a particular focus on the
Asian context.
Students will acquire relevant analytical
skills to examine the forces that shape
the changing of international business
environments and operations, at both the
macroeconomic and firm levels.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE
The program structure has two main
components and is based on a semester
and/or summer offering:
6 core courses in International Business
6 elective courses in thematic areas of
international Business
6 CORE COURSES (18 UNITS)
Theory and Practice of International
Business
Economic Principles for International
Business
Cross Cultural Management and
Negotiation
International Trade and Investment Policy
Doing Business in Asia*
International Business Strategy (capstone)
* Students are encouraged to undertake a period of
overseas study as part of this program. To facilitate
this opportunity, the School plans to offer the course
Doing Business in Asia via Ngee Ann Adelaide
Education Centre in Singapore. In the event ofinsufficient enrolment demand or that students are
unable to undertake offshore study, a substitute
course - Contemporary Issues in International
Business will be offered in Adelaide.
6 ELECTIVE COURSES (18 UNITS)
Students will choose 6 elective courses
from an extended range of courses
related to international business, or focus
in an area to specialise in international
law, international trade or global food
and agricultural business. International
exchange would be the ultimate compliment
to the Master of International Business and
students will be encouraged to consider
embarking on a semester of study overseasat one of our partner Business Schools.
International Business can be
extended with:

Corporate Governance and Globalisation
Or any other approved course from the
Master of Commerce
International Law courses will be taken from
the Master of Laws including International
Trade Law, International Trade Transactions
and the Law, Contractual Relations* and
Principles of Australian Law*.
Courses marked with (* ) are compulsory for
students without a background in law.
Global Food and Agricultural Business
courses will consider international markets,
policy analysis and trends and issues
in the world food system, including the
management and performance of global
food chains.
An extensive number of electives can be
taken from within the Master of International
Trade and will provide students with a solid
understanding in issues faced by importing
and exporting companies, graduates with this
profile will be well suited to positions within
state or federal government organisations.
A maximum of 2 elective courses can be
chosen from other faculties (e.g. cultural
studies, languages).

Higher Degree by Research
This degree may serve as a pathwayto a higher degree by research.Students considering a researchdegree are advised to consult thecourse coordinator prior to makingan application.

Industry Internship & Exchange
The University of Adelaide Business
School prides itself on its prestigious
Business School partners across Europe,
Canada and Asia. Students will be
encouraged to consider taking either
a full semester of exchange overseas
to enhance their international business
education or if time is of the essence
short term summer or winter courses can
be considered.
The Business School has partners with
Aarhus School of Business in Denmark;
Aalto University in Finland, ESCP_EAP in
Paris, Audencia School of Management
in Nantes, France, Leipzig and the
European Business School in Germany,
HEC_Montreal in Canada and various
universities in America and Asia.
Students that meet the eligibility criteria
set out by Adelaide Abroad will have
the opportunity to discuss an exchange
study plan with the Program Director to
best suit their career aspirations.
Enrolment may also be approved in
languages and the work integrated project,
or internship program on a case by
case basis.
Students with fluency in a second language
may be eligible for an international
internship with the option to enrol in a
major market-based Research Project
in International Business overseas
for a semester of full-time study. An
international internship of this nature
cannot be taken in an international
students home country. The requirement
is met by a supervised work program
conducted at an organisation outside
Australia. International students may
intern with organisations in Australia.
The director of the International Business
Discipline will assist students in locating
internships. Students are encouraged to
be active participants in this process.
The internship must be for at least one
semester of full time work and must
be related to the students program of
study. Fluency in the business language
of the host country must be established
before being approved for an internship.
Certification of fluency is by examination
or by completion of the recognisedbusiness communication skills in the
relevant language discipline provided
by an accredited Australian language
training provider e.g. Alliance Francaise.
All internships must be approved
in advance by the director of the
International Business Discipline.
Careers
The Master of International Business is a
postgraduate degree specifically designed
to develop the capabilities and resourcesof managers operating in the global
economy. It is designed primarily for those
graduates seeking to establish or accelerate
a career in international business. As there
are no work experience requirements it is
especially suitable for recent graduates
planning on working in a multinational
environment. Career possibilities include
general management, export and import
management, management consulting,
international licensing, business policy
consulting, joint venture management,
foreign exchange trading, international
marketing. This course is especiallyrelevant for students intending to work
in the commercial, inter-governmental
and non-profit sectors, and others who
wish to extend their skills in the analysis
and interpretation of the global business
environment.
